India-A batters shine as first unofficial Test against England Lions ended in a draw
Canterbury [UK], June 2 (ANI): Nitish Reddy and Dhruv Jurel kept India A going in their second innings against England Lions in the first unofficial test match at Canterbury on Monday. The match ended in a draw. Nitish Reddy 52 (47)and Dhruv Jurel 53 (53) remained not out on the crease as India-A finished Day four on 241/2. Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal was dismissed for 64 while Abhimanyu Easwaran scored 68. The duo stitched 123 runs for the opening wicket. India-A started off their second innings after lunch as they bowled out Lions for 585-9. Jaiswal and Easwaran opened the innings for India-A. Jaiswal started India's second innings with a six on the very first ball off Josh Hull. India hurried to 50 in the 6th as both batters counter-attacked English bowlers: Abhimanyu Easwaran (17 (12) and Yashasvi Jaiswal 35 (24). Easwaran completed his fifty in the 15th over after pushing the ball towards deep backwards point for a single off Ajeet Dale. Jaiswal also completed his fifty in the following over, after hitting a four, towards third man off Eddie Jack. The duo brought up a 100-run partnership for the opening wicket in the same over. Rehan Ahmed removed Jaiswal in the 20th over, and Dhruv Jurel joined Easwaran in the middle. Ahmed cleaned up Easwaran in the 28th over, Nitish Reddy got a promotion in the batting order as he joined Jurel after the fall of the second wicket. Yashasvi Jaiswal (64 off 60 balls), Abhimanyu Easwaran (68 off 87 balls), Dhruv Jurel (53 not out), and Nitish Kumar Reddy (52 not out off 47 balls) got some runs and confidence before the second game in Northampton, starting June 6. The match was called off after India A raced to 241 for 2 in 41 overs with 25 overs remaining on the final day. England Lions ended their first innings before lunch on day 4 on a healthy 587/10, taking a 30-run lead over India A's first innings score of 557. During India A's first innings, Karun Nair had slammed a double ton (204). (ANI)

French Open 2025: Novak Djokovic Clinches 100th Win To Set Up Quarterfinal Clash With Alexander Zverev
Novak Djokovic etched another chapter in his storied career on Monday, becoming just the second player in history to register 100 career wins at Roland Garros. The 38-year-old Serbian achieved the milestone in dominant fashion, cruising past Britain's Cameron Norrie 6-2, 6-3, 6-2 to advance to the quarterfinals for a record-extending 16th consecutive year at the clay-court major. "It's a very pretty number, but 101 victories sounds better," Djokovic quipped after the match. "I will continue to search for another victory, it's clearly not finished for me here. I'm very honoured to make history in this sport, which has given me everything in my life." With Monday's triumph, the three-time French Open champion joined Rafael Nadal, who has 112 wins at the event, as the only two players to record 100 victories at Roland Garros. Djokovic's win-loss record in Paris now stands at an impressive 100-16. Djokovic was in complete control from the outset on Court Philippe-Chatrier. Against Norrie - a player he had defeated just two weeks earlier en route to the Geneva title - the Serbian neutralised the Brit's longer rallies and controlled the tempo with surgical precision. After an early exchange of breaks in the first set, Djokovic reeled off five of the next six games to take the lead. Norrie, aiming to reach his second Grand Slam quarter-final, adopted a more aggressive style in the second set, especially after Djokovic made a few uncharacteristic errors. However, Djokovic quickly recalibrated, showing off his signature depth and variety to regain command. Norrie's medical timeout for an apparent ankle issue while trailing 3-4 further tilted the momentum in Djokovic's favour. The 24-time Grand Slam winner wrapped up the match in just two hours and 14 minutes, becoming the oldest men's singles quarterfinalist at Roland Garros since Istvan Gulyas in 1971. "I feel good. I always have high expectations," Djokovic said. "In the end, it's 12 sets played, 12 sets won, so it's all positive and solid up until now." Djokovic will now face third seed and 2023 finalist Alexander Zverev in a high-stakes quarter-final. The Serbian leads their head-to-head 8-5, though their last meeting ended with Djokovic retiring during the Australian Open semi-final earlier this year. Listen to the latest songs, only on

Dhruv Jurel scores second fifty, Jaiswal, Easwaran get some runs against England Lions
The India A top order got some much-needed batting practice on the final day of the four-day game against England Lions at Canterbury. Both sides scored in excess of 550 in their first innings and after conceding a first-innings lead of 30 in the drawn fixture, Abhimanyu Easwaran (68), Yashasvi Jaiswal (64), Dhruv Jurel (53 not out) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (52 not out) did their chances no harm as the visitors compiled a score of 241/2 in just 41 overs before proceedings came to a close. Jurel's half-century followed his first-innings knock of 94 while the other three batsmen had managed low scores in the first dig. Other than skipper Easwaran, the other three batters scored at strike rates of at least a run a ball. The time in the middle would be useful going into the second 'Test', starting in Northampton on Friday, June 6. These games are seen as a precursor and preparation for the five-Test series starting in Headingley on June 20. The track at Canterbury presented few demons for the batters, and the Lions amassed 587 in their first innings, replying to India A's 557. After an underwhelming Indian Premier League season for Sunrisers Hyderabad, the quick-fire fifty would be a morale-booster for Reddy. He is likely to be part of the playing XI for the first Test against England after his impressive performances during his first Test series, the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, where he scored his maiden Test hundred. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli calling time on their Test careers, spots in the batting order are up for grabs. It is imperative, therefore, that the contenders for these places get used to English conditions and acquire a few runs under their belts. Karun Nair, making a comeback to the Indian set-up after a long time, made a double hundred in the first innings, and Sarfaraz Khan, who didn't get an opportunity Down Under despite a big hundred in the preceding home series against New Zealand, threw his hat in the ring with a knock of 92. So the team management considered it fit to give the other batters a chance to get some centre-wicket time. The match was of little consequence as a contest in itself, but the Indian think tank would be a bit concerned with the bowling effort with Anshul Kamboj, Harshit Rana, Shardul Thakur and Reddy returning ordinary figures. Mukesh Kumar was the most successful bowler with figures of 3/92 from 25 overs. With no Mohammed Shami in the Test tour party, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj and probably Prasidh Krishna will need some good pace back-up in the gruelling series, in which no pacer is expected to feature in all five matches. Brief Scores: India A 557 and 241/2 in 41 overs (Yashasvi Jaiswal 64, Abhimanyu Easwaran 68, Dhruv Jurel 53 not out, Nitish Kumar Reddy 52 not out) drew with England Lions 587 (Tom Haines 171, Max Holden 101, Dan Mousley 113, Mukesh Kumar 3/92)
