"Best wishes to all hardworking doctors on #DoctorsDay. Our doctors have made a mark for their dexterity and diligence. Equally notable is their spirit of compassion. They are truly protectors of health and pillars of humanity. Their contribution in strengthening India's healthcare infrastructure is indeed exceptional."
July 1 is observed as National Doctor's Day to commemorate Bidhan Chandra Roy, a renowned doctor who also served as the West Bengal Chief Minister, and whose birth and death anniversary fall on this day. Dr Roy was in 1961 awarded the Bharat Ratna, India's highest civilian honour, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to medicine and public service. This day, established in 1991 by the Government of India to honour him, is also dedicated to honouring the tireless dedication, compassion, and relentless efforts of its medical professionals.
Acknowledging the role that the doctors play, PM Modi referred to their contribution in his 123rd episode of his monthly radio programme, 'Mann Ki Baat' on Sunday.
He said that on the 1st of July, the country honours two very important professions -- Doctors and Chartered Accountants (CAs). "Both of these are such pillars of society, which make our lives better. Doctors are the protectors of our health, and the CAs are the guides of economic life," the PM said.
Last year, PM Modi had said the government was fully committed to improving the healthcare infrastructure in India and also ensuring that doctors get their deserved respect.
Union Health Minister J.P.Nadda also extended his wishes on the day. He said," On National Doctor's Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to all doctors for their selfless service to humanity. Their round-the-clock dedication brings hope and saves countless lives every single day. In every health emergency, you have stood tall at the frontlines, driven by compassion and an unshakable sense of duty. Your care, courage and sacrifice make you the true heroes of our society."
He also expressed his gratitude not just to doctors, but to all healthcare workers, "whose relentless efforts are paving the way towards a Swasth Bharat".

After BDS debacle, NEET 1st round revised list out

Bhopal: The MP directorate of medical education (DME) released an updated First Round Allotment for MP State Combined NEET UG Counselling 2025 on Wednesday. In this allocation, 4,232 MBBS seats and 931 BDS seats were distributed. The announcement followed DME's earlier decision to remove 100 BDS seats from the counselling process. This reduction occurred after the Union health ministry instructed against student admissions at Guru Govind Singh College of Dental Science and Research Centre, Burhanpur for the 2025-26 academic session. The timing of the ministry's directive — issued four days before counselling but apparently not acted upon until after allotments were made — had sparked criticism. Out of the top 300 MP State Quota rankers, around 130 were allotted this college. It's the most preferred institution, chosen by nearly 43% of top candidates. Around 90 top rankers opted for GMC Bhopal, making it the second most preferred college — chosen by 30% of the top 300. The updated allocation results are now accessible on Students with highest rankings received placements at renowned institutions including Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Medical College, Indore, and GMC, Bhopal. Overall MBBS seat selection remained unchanged, with only minor reallocations in private colleges. In BDS, seats were redistributed with slight increases at Mansarovar Dental College, while the total stayed constant. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). Modi checks on Naveen's health

1 2 Bhubaneswar: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reached out to former Odisha chief minister Naveen Patnaik , who is in hospital since Sunday due to dehydration, to inquire about his health. The PM wished Naveen a speedy recovery and extended an invitation for a meeting in Delhi once he recuperates, according to a statement from the BJD president's office. A spokesperson from Sum Ultimate Medicare hospital reported that Naveen is responding well to treatment and is in a stable condition. While the official reason for Modi's call was to check on Naveen's health, political analysts feel the conversation may have also touched upon garnering support for the NDA 's vice-presidential nominee, C P Radhakrishnan. With the India Bloc fielding B Sudershan Reddy, securing the backing of BJD, which holds six seats in Rajya Sabha, could only add to NDA's strength, despite its numerical advantage. Earlier, defence minister Rajnath Singh had also reached out to the BJD president, seeking his support for the NDA candidate. However, Naveen is yet to reveal his stance. In 2022, BJD had supported the NDA's Jagdeep Dhankar as vice-president. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). NEET UG dental counselling derails after Centre order

Bhopal: Just a day after it began, the first round of State Combined Counselling was cancelled by the Directorate of Medical Education (DME) here on Tuesday. The move came after a letter from the Union ministry of health and family welfare (MoHFW) dental education section, dated Aug 14, 2025 that ordered the cessation of admissions at Guru Govind Singh College of Dental Science and Research Centre , Burhanpur. The timing of the ministry's directive - issued four days before counselling began but apparently not acted upon until after allotments were made - has sparked criticism from students and education advocates. With 100 BDS seats now removed from the matrix, the entire first round of allotments has been scrapped. "In view of the above the allotment of first round declared on Aug 18 stands cancelled. Fresh allotment result after removing 100 BDS seats in Guru Govind Singh College of Dental Science and Research centre, Burhanpur will be declared on Aug 20 and admission process will restart from 3 PM on Wednesday. All candidates are advised to remain in touch with MPOnline portal and DME website for updates," DME official
