Clemson makes a huge splash in the transfer portal landing guard Jestin Porter
According to multiple reports, Brad Brownell and the Clemson Tigers have secured a key addition to their backcourt with the commitment of former Middle Tennessee State guard Jestin Porter.
Porter, a 6-foot-1 scoring threat, chose Clemson over several other programs, including Arizona State and Ole Miss. Considered one of the top mid-major guards available in the portal, Porter is coming off a strong junior season in which he averaged 15 points, 2.9 rebounds, 1.2 assists and 1.1 steals per game. He shot 41% from the field and connected on 36.4% of his three-point attempts.
Porter will arrive at Clemson as a rising senior with one year of eligibility remaining. He is expected to bring immediate offensive production and veteran presence to a Tiger backcourt that now includes returning guard Dillon Hunter and fellow transfer Efrem 'Butta' Johnson.
This marks the sixth addition for Clemson out of the portal this offseason, and the second guard. Brownell has also added size to the roster with big men Nick Davidson, Carter Welling, RJ Godfrey, and Jake Wahlin.
With Porter in the mix, Clemson continues to round out a roster that blends experience and scoring ability—something that could be crucial as the Tigers look to build on last season's NCAA Tournament run.

Clemson HC Dabo Swinney shares injury update on Adam Randall, multiple Tigers in camp

Clemson football's second scrimmage of fall camp brought encouraging news for one position group, but also highlighted a few lingering injury situations as the countdown to the season opener against No. 9 LSU continues. Senior running back Adam Randall was back in action Thursday after missing some practice time earlier in the week with a minor injury. The former wide receiver, who transitioned to the backfield ahead of last year's College Football Playoff game against Texas, didn't waste time making his presence felt. According to Dabo Swinney, Randall broke free for a 50-plus yard run early in the scrimmage and added several other chunk plays throughout the day. With Jarvis Green already sidelined long term and Jay Haynes still rehabbing from last December's ACL injury, Randall's health will be vital for a position group that can't afford another major setback. While Randall was making plays, the Tigers were without veteran right guard Walker Parks, who suffered an injury during the first scrimmage last weekend. Swinney said the fifth-year senior is expected to be ready for the opener, but the staff has contingency plans in place. Junior Harris Sewell, a former Top 100 prospect with eight career starts, and sophomore Elyjah Thurmon, who has worked at all five spots on the offensive line, have been getting work at right guard. Parks has battled through adversity before, missing most of the 2023 season before returning to start all 14 games last fall and earning third-team All-ACC honors. In the secondary, junior safety Khalil Barnes remains limited by a minor injury that has kept him out for over a week. Barnes participated in situational work Thursday but did not see live snaps. The Georgia native quickly became one of Clemson's most impactful defenders as a freshman in 2023, earning All-American recognition with three interceptions, three forced fumbles and a defensive touchdown. He followed that up last year by leading the team with four picks, becoming the first Tiger to reach that mark since 2019. Clemson now shifts its focus to the final stretch of camp, hoping to have its key contributors healthy and ready when the Tigers take the field against LSU on August 30. Nets' Michael Porter Jr. speaks on sports betting, effect on players

Brooklyn Nets forward Michael Porter Jr. has been having quite the summer as he finds himself playing for the Nets after spending his first seven seasons with the Denver Nuggets. Porter has used his presence off the court to talk about various issues important to him, but he recently made a podcast appearance to talk about something affecting players behind the scenes. "Talking about the integrity of the game. Yeah. The sports gambling stuff can affect that a lot," Porter said during his appearance on the "One Night With Steiny" podcast in which he addressed several topics, including how he feels about the current state of gambling. Porter recently spoke on the topic on his "Curious Mike" YouTube channel in which he explained how his brother, Jontay, fell victim to the sports betting scene. "Think about it. You get mad at these dudes that do the sports betting, but think about if you could get all your homies rich by telling them, 'Yo, bet $10,000 on my under'," Porter continued. "That is so not okay. But, some people probably think like that. They come from nothing and all their homies have nothing." Porter is one of many athletes across various sports and leagues to talk about the effect of sports betting not only on the perceived integrity of sports, but the players who participate in those sports as well. Later on, Porter even brings up NFL tight end Mark Andrews of the Baltimore Ravens who received plenty of negativity after dropping a pass that would have tied the game between his Ravens and the Buffalo Bills. Porter is more familiar with the effects of sports betting on players more than most as his own brother has been banned from the NBA for betting on himself. Ever since sports gambling has been legalized, it seems that there are athletes who have to resist the temptation to participate while there are fans who are going above and beyond to target players. Porter seems to be speaking out against all of it.
