The Tata Harrier EV will launch tomorrow, on June 3, 2025. The vehicle is expected to become the brand's largest and most advanced electric SUV. The Harrier EV sits above the extant models in Tata's EV portfolio, marking a step towards more performance-oriented and features-heavy electric models. While full specifications are not known, there are some cues regarding design and the platform that provide insight on what the buyer will ultimately receive.
Tata Harrier EV: Design
While the Harrier EV is based on the ICE model, it adopts some styling tweaks that are characteristic of electric vehicles. Mainly the front grille has been closed off to reduce drag, as seen in other EVs. The front and rear bumpers have also been revised.

It is expected to sit on aero-efficient alloy wheels, which would enhance the aesthetic and performance capabilities of the vehicle. The configuration of lights includes connected daytime running lights at the front, while the rear has new tail lamps. While Tata Motors has not unveiled that cabin of the upcoming Harrier EV, the cabin layout will most likely be similar to that of the standard Harrier. It will probably get a two-tone cabin finish, a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument cluster, and a panoramic sunroof. We could also possibly see additional new features such as ventilated seats, dual-zone climate control, and a powered tailgate, etc.

The Harrier EV is likely to get new convenience technologies such as a "Summon Mode", which will allow limited movement of the vehicle from the key fob. It is also expected to get an auxiliary display for front passengers that follows EV trends with some of the new electric models already on the market. The vehicle is also likely to offer Qi charging, multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera, and Level 2 ADAS (advance driver assistance systems). Tata Harrier EV: Specifications
Built on Tata's new acti.ev plus platform, certain variants of the Harrier EV will be offered with a dual-motor all-wheel-drive setup. While battery capacity details are not yet confirmed, early indications suggest the vehicle could offer a driving range exceeding 500 kilometres per charge. A more affordable front-wheel-drive variant with a single motor may also be part of the lineup at a later stage.

India's electric vehicle (EV) industry is facing a supply chain crisis due to a shortage of a critical component which is rare earth magnets. These magnets are important components in electric vehicle motors and are used in various essential parts like electric motors, power windows, speakers, and other auto parts. They are also used in everyday technologies like smartphones and EVs. India heavily depends on China for rare earth magnets. However, China has imposed restrictions on the export of rare metals which has disrupted India's EV business. This decision is taken at the time when the Indian government is promoting domestic EV production. It's also encouraging e-mobility by giving incentives and funding in the 2025 budget. Producing these components in India is challenging, expensive and it also impacts on the environment. Why Has China Imposed Restrictions? China's decision is called as response to U.S. restrictions on Chinese technology especially in the semiconductor sector. According to Reuters, this move shows China's dominance in critical mining industries. It is in a trade war with the U.S. under former President Donald Trump's policies, China is also trying to block US businesses as much as possible. China's ban on rare earth magnet exports has affected the supply chains of automakers, aerospace manufacturers, semiconductor companies, and military contractors in the world. Impact On India According to an Economic Times report, India imported 870 tons of magnets of Rs 306 crore in FY2025. China controls around 70% of the rare earth magnet market and which is about 90% of production. Vehicle manufacturers may pass on the increased costs to consumers, if prices rise due to this move by China. The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) has raised concerns with the government and stated that the shortage of magnets can lead to production delays. The Indian government is reportedly sending a delegation of automotive industry leaders to Beijing to find solutions. SIAM recently shared a document stating, 'The shortage could halt automotive production entirely starting early June.' As its impacting Ratan Tata's Tata Motors, Maruti Suzuki and Anand Mahindra's Mahindra & Mahindra. This document was presented during a May 19 meeting attended by officials from Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Tata Motors. While China has approved exports for some magnet producers like Volkswagen, Indian auto industry officials fear that due to relations between Beijing and New Delhi they might delay approvals for Indian companies.

The Tata Harrier EV comes loaded with a plethora of features powered by advanced technology. Bookings for the flagship electric SUV are slated to commence on July 2. While the homegrown auto giant has only introduced the base variant of the Harrier EV, it has revealed that the higher trims of the car will come priced aggressively. ANI has quoted Vivek Srivatsa, Chief Commercial Officer, Tata Passenger Electric Mobility (TPEM), saying that the price of ₹ 21.49 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variant of Harrier EV is aggressive and competitive. He also stated that by the end of June, the pricing of the higher trim of the SUV will be announced, and it will be equally aggressive. "I won't be able to come to the price right now, but you'll know it before the end of the month, but I can tell you that for the quad wheel drive Harrier EV price, even there will be equally aggressive and exciting," Srivatsa reportedly said. Tata Harrier EV: Brings back All-wheel Drive (AWD) to the OEM's lineup The Tata Harrier EV has been launched, promising a range of up to 627 km on a single charge. Designed in line with its internal combustion engine-propelled sibling with a couple of EV-specific changes, the Harrier EV gets a 75 kWh battery pack, dual electric motors, with each powering one axle and channelling power to all four wheels. The Harrier EV has brought back the All-wheel Drive (AWD) setup to the company's product lineup and dubbed this Quad Wheel Drive (AWD). And I think it is going to really give a lot of enjoyment to customers in terms of driving. So all 4 wheels' power means that customers can take it off the road, but also when on normal roads, the power and the stability that it gives will be a very different experience. So while it looks like an SUV, the driving is very easy and very safe, and it can perform like a supercar, you know. So that's a big USP," he added. New feature in the electric SUV includes a 14.5-inch QLED touchscreen infotainment system that supports in-car EV charging payments, a feature also offered in the Hyundai Creta Electric. The Harrier EV also comes with a digital key and an exclusive auto-park assist function. It also comes with a 10.25-inch digital driver's display with integrated maps. Other features include dual-zone auto AC with rear vents, wireless Apple and Android Auto CarPlay, a wireless phone charger, multi-colour ambient lighting, a panoramic sunroof and EV-specific technologies like vehicle-to-load (V2L) and vehicle-to-vehicle (V2V) functionality. The electric SUV has features to enhance off-road capabilities like six terrain modes, off-road assist, etc. For safety, the Harrier EV has seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, a blind spot monitor, electronic stability control, a tyre pressure monitoring system, and rear parking sensors with an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) suite.
