Bruce Springsteen's new song 'Faithless' from 'Tracks 2' is redemption with quiet baptism

Yahoo01-05-2025

The power of love can bring faith to the 'Faithless.'
Bruce Springsteen debuted the title track from the unreleased 'Faithless' soundtrack for a never-made film, on Thursday, May 1. It's part of the upcoming 'Tracks II: The Lost Albums' box set, due Friday, June 27.
In the song, a solitary figure is walking in twilight, faithless, as framed by gentle-yet-yearning acoustic and slide guitars. Redemption comes with a quiet baptism of love in this moving Western ballad. Listen to the track here.
The 'Faithless' album is a solo work recorded over two weeks in Florida between the conclusion of the 'Devils & Dust' tour in November 2005 and the release of 'We Shall Overcome: The Seeger Sessions' in April 2006. Producer Ron Aniello, touring E Street Band members Soozie Tyrell, Lisa Lowell, Curtis King, Jr., Michelle Moore and Ada Dyer, and Springsteen family members Patti Scialfa and sons Evan Springsteen and Sam Springsteen assisted with the project.
The album is described as 'a meditation on purpose, belief and acceptance — intended to accompany a film described as a 'spiritual Western.' ' in a Thursday news release.
'This was a really unusual collection of songs,' said Springsteen in a statement. 'You could recognize details and maybe a character or two. But for the most part, I just wrote atmospheric music that I thought would fit.'
The 'Faithless' album includes four instrumental tracks. The song 'Faithless' is the third to be shared from 'Tracks II' following 'Rain in the River' from the lost album 'Perfect World,' and 'Blind Spot' from 'Streets of Philadelphia Sessions.'
Springsteen's upcoming 'Tracks II: The Lost Albums' includes 83 songs on the seven unreleased albums recorded between 1983 and 2018.

Rescue African artifacts from colonizers' museums in the heist game Relooted

Relooted is a heist game about reclaiming African artifacts from the Western countries that stole them, developed by independent South African studio Nyamakop. Relooted is set in a future timeline where Western nations have signed a treaty to return plundered items to their African regions of origin, but things aren't going to plan. Western leaders are instead hiding the artifacts away in private collections, so it's up to a ragtag crew based in Johannesburg, South Africa, to strategize and steal them back. Relooted is broken into missions, and each one includes a briefing about the artifact, an infiltration planning stage, and the heist. Gameplay is a mix of puzzle and action as you case each building, set up your run, and then execute the plan. Once you grab your target artifact, the security alarms go off and you have a limited amount of time to escape, so thorough preparation is key. To view this content, you'll need to update your privacy settings. Please click here and view the "Content and social-media partners" setting to do so. In the Day of the Devs reveal video for Relooted , producer Sithe Ncube cites a wild statistic from a pivotal 2018 report on African cultural heritage, saying, "90 percent of sub-Saharan African culture heritage is in the possession of Western collections. That is millions upon millions of deeply important cultural, spiritual and personal artifacts, including human remains, that aren't in their rightful place." The locations in Relooted are fictional, but the 70 artifacts you have to steal back are real, and they're all currently in Western and private collections, far from their original homes and owners. Nyamakop is one of the largest independent games studios in sub-Saharan Africa, with about 30 developers working on Relooted right now. Its previous game, the globular platformer Semblance , was the first African-developed IP to ever come to a Nintendo console, hitting the Switch in 2018. In order to get Semblance on the Switch, Nyamakop co-founder Ben Myres had to bootstrap his way around the world, buying one-way tickets and finding new partners on the fly in a daisy chain of game festival appearances. Here's how Myres explained it to Engadget at E3 2018: "The entry curve into being an indie game developer in South Africa is like a cliff face. Because you don't have the contacts, the platform holders like Xbox, Sony. You don't have reps that live in your country. The press that matter are all here. There isn't a big enough market locally to sell to, so you have to make works to sell to the West, which means you have to go to Western shows and you have to meet Western press. So basically, if you're not traveling a ton, you're not going to be able to make it." Nyamakop has grown significantly since 2018, and Relooted is an unabashedly African game built by a majority-POC team, Myres and Ncube said in 2024. "There is the thing about making games for Africans — we say that a lot," Ncube told . "We say that should be a thing, we should make games for Africans because we're playing games that were made in the West. But will people even play those games, if you make them? And then if you make games targeting people ... even if you were to make one that's really good, there's no guarantee that you'll have a lot of people playing it. So I think there's some level of confusion, I can say, in terms of unexplored aspects of the African games market." Relooted is in development for Steam, the Epic Games Store and Xbox Series X/S, and while it doesn't yet have a firm release date, it's available to wishlist.

Trump trolls Bruce Springsteen with golf video in latest social media attack

President Donald Trump took aim at rock star Bruce Springsteen again as their week-long tête-à-tête continues. On Wednesday, Trump posted a video on Truth Social of himself playing golf, before the video cuts to Springsteen tripping on a concert stage with a golf ball added in and appearing to hit the rocker, causing his fall. The post went up the same day Springsteen released a new EP called 'Land of Hope & Dreams.' The EP features six songs from a May 14 concert in Manchester, England, where he called out Trump. Those recorded remarks about the president, backed up by a piano, make up the fourth track, 'My City of Ruins (Introduction).' 'In my home, the America I love, the America I've written about, that has been a beacon of hope and liberty for 250 years, is currently in the hands of a corrupt, incompetent and treasonous administration,' Springsteen said. 'Tonight, we ask all who believe in democracy and the best of our American experience to rise with us, raise your voices against authoritarianism and let freedom ring.' The other songs include the title track, 'Land of Hope & Dreams (Live),' 'Long Walk Home (Live),' 'My City of Ruins (Live)' and a cover of Bob Dylan's 1964 song 'Chimes of Freedom.' Since The Boss made these remarks in Manchester, Trump wrote on Truth Social to blast the musician in the days leading up to the golf video. On Friday, Trump called Springsteen 'highly overrated,' 'dumb as a rock' and a 'dried out 'prune' of a rocker (his skin is all atrophied!).' Trump followed up by calling for an investigation into Springsteen and other celebrities who contributed to former Vice President Kamala Harris' campaign. Other rockers have come to Springsteen's defense in the wake of Trump's attacks on the New Jersey musician. Onstage in Pittsburgh on Sunday, Pearl Jam's Eddie Vedder said Springsteen was right in saying 'residents are being removed off America's streets and being deported without due process of law.' 'They're defunding American universities that won't bow down to their ideologies, as Bruce said,' Vedder added. That same day, during a performance with the band Saving Grace in Finland, Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant showed his support for The Boss, Classic Rock reported. 'Right now in England, which is where we come from — not quite the land of the ice and snow — Bruce Springsteen is touring right now in the U.K.,' Plant said. 'And he's putting out some really serious stuff. So tune in to him. And let's all hope that we can be…' On Tuesday, Neil Young wrote a blog post directed at Trump, which started off with 'What are you worryin' about man?' 'Bruce and thousands of musicians think you are ruining America,' Young wrote. 'You worry about that instead of the dyin' kids in Gaza. That's your problem. STOP THINKING ABOUT WHAT ROCKERS ARE SAYING.'
