Pop star Robbie Williams named as new Fifa Music Ambassador

Leader Live12 hours ago

The singer, best known for songs such as Rock DJ, Angels and Candy, has been appointed to the role to 'deepen fan connection' and 'elevate' the emotion of the game by bringing music and football together on the world stage.
He has co-written a new song, Desire, which will be played before Fifa tournaments and matches worldwide to accompany players as they walk on to the pitch.
The song will debut at the Club World Cup's opening match being held in Miami on Saturday, before being used in all upcoming tournaments including the 2026 World Cup.
Williams said: 'Music and football bring people together like nothing else — each with their own universal language of connection, emotion, spirit and community.
'When those worlds come together, there's nothing like it — and I'm beyond honoured to be the Fifa Music Ambassador.
'Football and music have both been part of my life for as long as I can remember, so this means a lot to me on a personal level.
Williams provided the theme song for the Fifa 2000 video game, It's Only Us, on the condition that his favourite team Port Vale were included in the game.
The new anthem, which was co-written with Karl Brazil, Owen Parker and Erik Jan Grob, features the Italian singer Laura Pausini.
The track will be accompanied by a new video which will be shown for the first time at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium.
Williams added: 'I've grown up watching the walk-outs, the anthems, the drama – so writing and recording the official Fifa anthem is a real privilege.
'I wanted to create something that captures all of it — the passion, the nerves, the pride and the majesty of that feeling just before kick-off.
'Football and music have always meant the world to me, and bringing them together on this kind of stage gives me goosebumps.
'I know I'll get to perform this song at some of my favourite tournaments in the coming years, which fills me with excitement. It's a real honour that Laura Pausini accepted my invitation to feature on the song – she's an incredible artist with the perfect voice.'
Pausini, 51, rose to fame after winning the 1993 newcomer artists' section of the Sanremo Music Festival, one of the biggest and longest running song contests in Italy, with her song, La Solitudine.
The singer, who has released Italian and Spanish albums, won a Grammy in 2006 for Best Latin Pop Album and was also nominated for an Oscar in 2020 for best original song with Io si/Seen.
She added: 'The song is amazing, really touching. It's a dream to be with him for the Fifa Club World Cup. Since I was a little girl growing up in Italy I remember the thrill and passion for football in my home country.
'To be able to perform live with Robbie Williams in front of passionate football fans and to be heard by music fans around the world will be truly amazing.'
It comes as Williams completes the UK leg of his tour which will then continue with concerts in Ireland, Spain and Italy.
His new album Britpop is due to be released this autumn.

Back-to-back homers boost Orioles over Angels

June 14 - Cedric Mullins and Gary Sanchez, both fresh off the injured list, hit back-to-back home runs in a three-run sixth inning as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels for the second straight day, winning 6-5 on Saturday. Jordan Westburg drove in two runs and Adley Rutschman, Coby Mayo and Mullins all racked up two hits as eight Orioles had at least one hit. Keegan Akin (2-0) was the winning pitcher, giving up one run in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Felix Bautista notched his 14th save by pitching the ninth, needing a nine-pitch effort to strike out Logan O'Hoppe for the final out. Luis Rengifo drilled two home runs and Mike Trout also homered for Los Angeles, while Taylor Ward picked up three hits and an RBI. Angels starter Tyler Anderson (2-4) was charged with six runs on nine hits in five-plus innings. He walked four and struck out two. The Orioles, who've won three of their past four games, got all three runs in the sixth before the first out was recorded. The rally began with Ramon Laureano's walk before Mullins smacked his 11th homer and Sanchez followed with his first 2025 long ball in his first game since April 27. Mullins returned Monday from a right hamstring strain, while Sanchez was activated Saturday after recovering from right wrist inflammation. Baltimore starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano allowed three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked a pair. Trout's two-run homer went off the left field foul pole in the first inning. His first home run in nearly two weeks gave him 11 for the season. The Orioles got one run in the bottom of the inning on Westburg's groundout. They pulled even with two outs in the third on Gunnar Henderson's single followed by Westburg's go-ahead single. Ward's fifth-inning double tied the score in the fifth and Rengifo's leadoff home run put the Angels ahead in the sixth. Rengifo's eighth-inning solo blast off Andrew Kittredge was his third homer of the year. --Field Level Media

Horror fans 'seriously creeped out' as unhinged gets Channel 4 premiere

It can be quite a challenging task trying to remember viral dance routines from TikTok. With every passing week, it feels like there's a new song and matching movement to learn. So, if you're struggling to remember why Universal Pictures' M3GAN sent the internet into a frenzy in 2022, then fear not—Channel 4 has you covered. Airing on Saturday night for the enjoyment of horror fans, this twisted film about a seemingly sweet AI doll became an instant success three years ago after it capitalised on viral attention. The meme in question was created after fans tried to recreate the doll's eerie dance routine. Writing on X tonight as the sci-fi flick launched on the small screen at 10pm, @WestBromEL said: 'I'm watching M3GAN on @Channel4, it's seriously creepy.' @Mixer4everx added: 'Watching m3gan on channel 4. I love this movie.' Written by Akela Cooper, the film follows an artificially intelligent doll who develops self-awareness and becomes hostile toward anyone who comes between her and her human companion. Designed by Gemma, who is played by Get Out's Allison Williams, M3GAN goes from simply being able to listen, watch, and learn to being a full-blown killing machine. In the first week it was released, the somewhat comedic horror grossed nearly £24.9million, well above its predictions of £14million. Since, M3GAN has acquired an impressive 93% on review aggregator Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, with thousands flooding the site with glowing reviews. And for those keen for more, fear not, as last month, it was revealed that a sequel, M3GAN 2.0, is going to be released soon. The plot will follow M3GAN as she is being rebuilt to combat a humanoid military robot created using M3GAN's technology that is attempting an AI takeover. Its cast will star Williams once more, as well as Jenna Davis, Ivanna Sakhno, and Violet McGraw, hitting cinemas on June 27. Additionally, it has also previously been announced that M3GAN will be getting a further spin-off, but with a more sensual twist. Blumhouse and Atomic Monster are joining forces for the third M3GAN instalment, a film that 'expands the universe' and is described as an 'erotic thriller'. A synopsis for the upcoming film reads: 'A man acquires an Artificially Intelligent android to cope with the loss of his recently deceased wife. In an attempt to create a truly sentient partner, he inadvertently turns a harmless lovebot into a deadly soulmate. 'The film is in the tradition of the 90s domestic thrillers but with a modern, technological twist.' Set to be released on January 2, 2026, it will be directed by Kate Dolan, famed for the chilling Irish folk tale You Are Not My Mother. This comes after M3GAN star Williams spoke to the Metro about the film and her fear of scary movies, despite garnering status as a Scream Queen herself. More Trending She said: 'The truth is I have a really low tolerance for horror, meaning when I watch a scary movie, it affects my sleep for a while. 'For real. So some of my favourites are my favourites, but they're stuck in time because I've been too scared to watch them again.' View More » M3GAN is available to watch on Channel 4. Got a story? Rangers cult hero bags biggest job of his life at 47 – just days after predecessor in role announced his OWN sacking

And in world football terms, they don't come much bigger than this in general. But only a few dare take on the task of managing the national team, given its storied history and reputation in the game with four World Cups and two European Championships. That challenge now falls on former Gers star Gennaro Gattuso, who has been appointed as the new manager of Italy. Gattuso, 47, takes over from Luciano Spalletti who just a few days ago announced his OWN sacking. Spalletti's time was up after a 3-0 defeat to Norway but he still took charge of the national side's next game against Moldova. Those results leave the Azzurri sitting third of the five teams in their World Cup qualifying group. Gattuso, who recently left Hajduk Split after narrowly missing out on the Croatian title, is understood to have accepted the role as first reported by Fabrizio Romano. He was given a heartfelt send off from Split after winning 20 of 43 games, drawing 14 and losing nine. Hajduk finished just two points behind eventual champions Rijeka. Gattuso started his managerial career at Swiss club Sion but was sacked after 12 games. He later coached Palermo, OFI Crete and Pisa before landing the manager's role at AC Milan, where he had spent most of his playing career. Moment Ally McCoist interrupts live radio to congratulate his 'wee pal' on signing for Rangers Milan were somewhat in the doldrums during that time and the four years he spent as manager there yielded no trophies and he left in May 2019. He was appointed boss at Napoli later that year and won the Coppa Italia in his first season there. After being let go by Napoli in 2021, Gattuso returned to management with Valencia the following year but quit after six months and then had a similarly short spell with Marseille in which he was sacked after five months. Gattuso signed for Rangers in 1997, as part of an influx of Italians including Lorenzo Amoruso, Marco Negri and Sergio Porrini (Swede Jonas Thern also joined that season from Roma). He was just 19 when signed by then-boss Walter Smith but he fell out of favour under Dick Advocaat at Ibrox and was moved from his usual midfield position to right-back before being sold to Salernitana for £4m. Gattuso won the World Cup with Italy in 2006 and was capped 73 times for his country, scoring one goal. 4 Rino Gattuso during his time at Rangers Credit: Scottish News and Sport 4 Gattuso signed for Rangers in 1997 Credit: News Group Newspapers Ltd Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page
