Back-to-back homers boost Orioles over Angels
June 14 - Cedric Mullins and Gary Sanchez, both fresh off the injured list, hit back-to-back home runs in a three-run sixth inning as the Baltimore Orioles defeated the visiting Los Angeles Angels for the second straight day, winning 6-5 on Saturday.
Jordan Westburg drove in two runs and Adley Rutschman, Coby Mayo and Mullins all racked up two hits as eight Orioles had at least one hit.
Keegan Akin (2-0) was the winning pitcher, giving up one run in 1 1/3 innings of relief. Felix Bautista notched his 14th save by pitching the ninth, needing a nine-pitch effort to strike out Logan O'Hoppe for the final out.
Luis Rengifo drilled two home runs and Mike Trout also homered for Los Angeles, while Taylor Ward picked up three hits and an RBI. Angels starter Tyler Anderson (2-4) was charged with six runs on nine hits in five-plus innings. He walked four and struck out two.
The Orioles, who've won three of their past four games, got all three runs in the sixth before the first out was recorded. The rally began with Ramon Laureano's walk before Mullins smacked his 11th homer and Sanchez followed with his first 2025 long ball in his first game since April 27.
Mullins returned Monday from a right hamstring strain, while Sanchez was activated Saturday after recovering from right wrist inflammation.
Baltimore starting pitcher Tomoyuki Sugano allowed three runs on six hits over 4 2/3 innings. He struck out four and walked a pair.
Trout's two-run homer went off the left field foul pole in the first inning. His first home run in nearly two weeks gave him 11 for the season.
The Orioles got one run in the bottom of the inning on Westburg's groundout. They pulled even with two outs in the third on Gunnar Henderson's single followed by Westburg's go-ahead single.
Ward's fifth-inning double tied the score in the fifth and Rengifo's leadoff home run put the Angels ahead in the sixth. Rengifo's eighth-inning solo blast off Andrew Kittredge was his third homer of the year.

Controversial FIFA Club World Cup begins - with newly knighted David Beckham joining fans at Hard Rock stadium
The new-look FIFA Club World Cup (CWC) has begun, kicking off with a goalless game between Lionel Messi's Inter Miami and Al Ahly. While many would have expected the Argentine legend to be named "man of the match", it was Miami's goalkeeper that took home the accolade - Oscar Ustari made eight saves, including one from the penalty spot. Messi almost won the match late on with a long-range effort, only for Al Ahly keeper Mohamed El Shenawy to turn his effort on to the bar. Also in attendance was the newly knighted David Beckham - or Sir David as he will soon be known. Before its revamp for the 2025 tournament, the Club World Cup took place every winter and was contested by the winners of continental club competitions around the world. It will now take place every four years. FIFA has faced criticism around the 32-team tournament, with some players raising concerns about the relentless fixture schedule. Europe has 12 clubs in the tournament, including Premier League clubs Chelsea and Manchester City. Their spaces were allocated based on performances in the Champions League over four seasons. Chelsea and City have already played 57 matches this season - now up to seven more have been added. It is why - in plans first revealed by Sky News in 2023 - global players' union FIFPRO has launched a legal challenge claiming FIFA has abused a dominant position to risk the health of players. A backdrop of unrest in America The CWC begins against the backdrop of immigration raids and violent protests in Los Angeles with concerns fans could be targeted or denied entry to FIFA events. It also the first time a major game has returned to the Hard Rock stadium in 11 months. The last match, the Copa America final saw ticketless fans breaching security gates and jumping over railings to enter the stadium, delaying kick off for 80 minutes.
