August 1 - Fresh off playing an integral role in the New York Knicks reaching their first Eastern Conference finals appearance in 25 years, forward Mikal Bridges agreed to a four-year, $150 million contract with the team on Thursday, according to multiple media reports. The deal reportedly includes a player option for 2029-30 and a trade kicker, making Bridges, 28, ineligible to be traded for six months after the signing extension. His previous deal was set to expire following the 2025-26 season. The new contract is reportedly a slight discount from his potential max extension of $156 million. By agreeing to a reduced salary, though, the Knicks gain more flexibility to continue building out the roster and potentially make another deep playoff run. New York acquired Bridges last summer as part of a massive trade that included sending four unprotected first-round picks and one protected first-rounder to the Brooklyn Nets. In 82 regular-season games last season for the Knicks, all starts, Bridges averaged 17.6 points on 50 percent shooting from the floor, including a 35.4 percent clip from 3-point range. During the playoffs, Bridges contributed 15.6 points on 45.6 percent shooting as well as 1.7 steals per game. After the Braves scored eight runs in the top of the eighth, the Reds nearly completed one of the greatest comebacks in the history of their storied franchise by erasing an 11-3 deficit. They followed with eight runs of their own in the bottom half. After a scoreless ninth inning, Atlanta's Ozuna cashed in the free runner Olson off Emilio Pagan (2-4) in the first extra inning to help the Braves go ahead for good and survive blowing the eight-run, eighth-inning lead. Pierce Johnson (2-3) didn't surrender any hits in the ninth to collect the win and Raisel Iglesias was perfect in the 10th to earn his 13th save in 18 chances. Ozzie Albies went 4-for-6 and drove in two runs for the Braves, who erased an early 3-0 hole and broke open a 3-3 game with an eight-run eighth, as Atlanta sent 11 batters to the plate. The first eight batters of the bottom half recorded hits for Cincinnati and all scored, with Ke'Bryan Hayes and Spencer Steer belting three-run homers. Reds right-hander Brent Suter stopped the hemorrhaging in the eighth and pitched a scoreless ninth before Pagan came on for the 10th. This is the second historic collapse by the Braves' bullpen this season. On June 5, Atlanta blew a 10-4 ninth-inning lead at home and lost 11-10 to Arizona. But this time the Braves came out on top. Atlanta has won four of the five meetings this season with Cincinnati, clinching the season series for the fourth time in five years. Cincinnati took a 1-0 lead in the second on an RBI double from Tyler Stephenson to left-center. An inning later, Elly De La Cruz belted a Carlos Carrasco pitch to the grass berm in center for his first home run since June 23 against the New York Yankees. The 30-game drought was the longest of De La Cruz's career and spanned 114 at-bats. Donald Trump left Harrison Butker red-faced on Thursday after telling the Kansas City Chiefs star he's a 'good-looking sucker' during a speech at the White House. Butker was one of several professional athletes invited to the White House by Trump for an executive order signing that will reestablish the Presidential Fitness Test - an initiative to promote young Americans staying active and healthy. As well as the Chiefs kicker, golfer Bryson DeChambeau, WWE icon Triple H and former New York Giants linebacker Lawrence Taylor were also in attendance for the signing. Every athlete was given the chance to speak at the White House after being introduced by Trump, and Butker received some awkward praise from the president on the day. The Georgia-born kicker also hit out at the LGBTQ+ community and Joe Biden's pro-abortion stance when addressing students at the college, which divided opinion across America. Trump gushing over Butker's looks was not the only part of his speech which garnered attention on Thursday, nevertheless. The 79-year-old found himself tongue-tied at one point as he attempted to pronounce Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa's last name, which is pronounced 'Tun-go-val-oa.' He sounded out the last name of the signal caller, who is of Samoan descent, before butchering it anyway and pronouncing it 'Ta-go-valiah.' ' Tua... Tag-o-valiah, the quarterback who has really been fantastic,' Trump said. 'When he's not injured, he's great. He's got to stay healthy. But he's a great guy.' Trump signed executive orders as Butker and his fellow athletes watched on before lating passed out souvenir pens. Butker is a three-time Super Bowl winner after spending the last eight years with Kansas City First established by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1966, the Presidential Fitness Test created a program to reward excellence in physical education. Participants would typically run, do sit-ups, pull-ups and push-ups to compete. Other activities in the test included running, jumping, a 50-yard dash, and a softball throw. Former president Barack Obama ended the test in 2012, replacing it with a more tailored assessment on individual health rather that physical feats. 'President Trump wants every young American to have the opportunity to emphasize healthy, active lifestyles — creating a culture of strength and excellence for years to come,' White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said in a statement to reporters.
