Australia's Starc comfortable with IPL pullout regardless of repercussion
MELBOURNE :Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is comfortable with his decision to leave the Indian Premier League (IPL) following the India-Pakistan clashes last month regardless of any repercussions, the 35-year-old said. The IPL was suspended on May 9 in the wake of hostilities between the two. It resumed on May 17 after the nuclear-armed neighbours agreed to a ceasefire. While most IPL foreign recruits returned to complete their franchise commitment, the Delhi Capitals duo of Starc and fellow Australian Jake Fraser-McGurk took no further part in the 10-team league. "I'm comfortable with my decision and how I felt about the whole situation and how it was handled," Starc told the Sydney Morning Herald on Friday. "Time will tell with repercussions or how it looks with guys that didn't return. But I've had my questions and concerns leading into that game, and obviously we saw what happened, which played a part in my decision." Starc was in Dharamsala, near the Pakistan border, for Delhi's May 9 match against the Punjab Kings. The contest was abandoned midway through, although league organisers blamed it on a floodlights failure. "Jake and I chose not to (return). So it was a very individual decision, and I'm happy to live with whatever comes of that," Starc said. He opted out of the Champions Trophy in Pakistan earlier this year citing personal reasons and has skipped the IPL more than once to preserve himself for international cricket. The left-arm quick said he withdrew from the remainder of the IPL because of the extraordinary circumstances. "I'm still heavily committed to the Delhi group, and I'm not someone that's gone into tournaments and pulled out after being picked up in an auction or whatever that looks like," Starc said. "These are different circumstances ... I had a discussion back home then came to a decision, and whatever comes from that I'm comfortable with that and we move forward."

IPL eases replacement rules as Overton, Fraser-McGurk withdraw
The Indian Premier League yesterday allowed temporary replacements for the remainder of the tournament to allow franchises to fill open spots due to withdrawals of overseas players. The IPL will restart on Saturday after it was paused due to the India-Pakistan conflict and the new dates clash with international commitments for several players. England's Jamie Overton (Chennai Super Kings) and Australia batter Jake FraserMcGurk (Delhi Capitals) have decided to miss the latter stages of the tournament, which will conclude on June 3. 'Given the non-availability of certain foreign players due to national commitments or personal reasons or any injury or illness, Temporary Replacement Players will be allowed until the conclusion of this tournament,' the league said in a memo to franchises. 'This decision is subject to the condition that the Temporary Replacement players taken from this point forward will not be eligible for retention in the following year. 'Temporary Replacement players will have to register for the IPL Player Auction 2026.' Overton, a bowling all-rounder, is part of the England whiteball team that will face the West Indies at home starting with a three-match ODI series on May 29. Fraser-McGurk has pulled out due to 'personal reasons' and Delhi have signed Bangladesh left-arm seamer Mustafizur Rahman in his place. Delhi are also waiting for Australia's left-arm quick Mitchell Starc to return. The Capitals are also waiting on the availability of South African pair Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs. Stubbs is part of the South Africa squad for the World Test Championship final against Australia starting June 11 at Lord's. Proteas coach Shukri Conrad said Tuesday that he still expects his players to join up with the national side on May 26, the day after the original date of the IPL final.

Australia's Fraser-McGurk to skip remainder of rescheduled IPL
Australian batsman Jake Fraser-McGurk has opted out of the rest of the Indian Premier League citing "personal reasons" as uncertainty lingers over the participation of other overseas players when the tournament resumes on Saturday. Several foreign players are deciding on whether to return to the lucrative Twenty20 tournament which restarts after its week-long suspension following the ceasefire between nuclear-armed India and Pakistan over the weekend after days of fighting. Fifth-placed Delhi Capitals said in a statement they would replace Fraser-McGurk, who has scored 55 runs in six games after being signed for 90 million Indian rupees ($1.06 million), by bringing in Bangladesh seamer Mustafizur Rahman. Cricket Australia said on Tuesday it was working with the Indian board (BCCI) on security arrangements, with several of their players including pacers Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc pondering their return to the country. British media reports said English players involved in the league would meet with the Professional Cricketers' Association before taking a call. Chennai Super Kings' Jamie Overton is also out, Indian media reported on Wednesday, with the all-rounder selected by England for their white-ball home series against the West Indies from May 29. The IPL final will be held on June 3, eight days before the World Test Championship final between Australia and South Africa at Lord's. ($1 = 85.2420 Indian rupees)
