EASTENDERS star Jamie Borthwick is returning to the soap just three months after being suspended for a shocking disability slur — sparking concern from campaigners.
The actor, who plays Jay Brown in the show, got an Albert Square ban in June after The Sun on Sunday revealed a video of him using a severely derogatory term.

The clip saw him describe the people of Blackpool as 'absolute m********s' while there for last year's Strictly live show.
Now, amid news of his return to EastEnders next month, disability charity Scope has called for Borthwick, 31, to undergo 'awareness training.'
The charity's Dr Shani Dhanda, an EastEnders fan, said: 'What shocked me most about this story is the character Jamie plays in the show often appears alongside another character called Janet who has Down syndrome.
'His character was even her stepdad at one point.
'He didn't say the word directly to a disabled person, but even still language is so important.'
Meanwhile, the quick return also sparked outrage in Blackpool.
Paul Galley, leader of Blackpool Council's Tories, said 'I am today publicly inviting Jamie to return to Blackpool with me — to meet members of our community, hear first-hand how his words caused hurt, and apologise in person.
'The BBC lifting his suspension without any visible act of contrition beyond a statement sends a worrying message celebrities can offend, apologise, and carry on without real consequence.'
A BBC spokesperson said: 'Whilst we do not comment on any individual matter, each case is always considered on its own facts.
'We are very clear on our expectations that inappropriate behaviour and language will not be tolerated.'
Borthwick's Enders return comes just two weeks after was seen out ready to head to an Oasis gig with his co-star Natalie Cassidy, above.
He apologised over the incident in June, claiming he did 'not fully understand' the term he had used.

WATCH the tense moment a contestant on The Wheel walks away empty-handed after all three celebrity helpers failed to answer the crucial jackpot question. After sailing through the earlier rounds, the hopeful contestants reached the final with a shot at a life-changing sum — only to be let down when none of the celebs on the wheel could crack the last question. Credit: BBC All three contestants faced the same tricky jackpot question — and one by one, they each got it wrong. With every incorrect answer, the prize money was slashed in half, until finally, it was reduced to zero. Host Michael McIntyre watched on in disbelief as the wrong answers rolled in, and the contestants were forced to accept defeat with nothing to show for it. The awkward moment quickly went viral, with fans flooding social media to share their frustration — and many claiming they knew the right answer all along. Advertisement Two of the questions were especially tough, leaving both the players and celebrity experts completely stumped. It was a brutal end to the episode… but how would you have done under pressure? Contestant Jonathan took on the first jackpot question for £52,000 - with help from YouTuber Harry Pinero. The question was: "When fully grown, which of these species of shark is typically the largest? Great hammerhead shark, Great white shark, Tiger shark or Basking shark." Advertisement Harry confessed he had no clue - but guessed a great hammerhead shark - which was incorrect. The right answer was: Basking shark. Michael McIntyre's The Wheel in fix row as fans claim last question was 'far too easy' - would you have got it correct? Next up was contestant Gillian, who chose a £26,000 jackpot question - with help from reality star Mark Wright. The question was: "Which country is the world's largest producer of coffee? Brazil, Colombia, India or Kenya." Advertisement Both Gillian and Mark were drawn to Columbia and were gutted to find out they were incorrect. The right answer was: Brazil. Hardest Quiz Show Questions Would you know the answers to some of quizzing TV's hardest questions Who Wants To Be A Millionaire - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. Host Jeremy Clarkson asked: 'From the 2000 awards ceremony onwards, the Best Actress Oscar has never been won by a woman whose surname begins with which one of these letters?' The multiple choice answers were between G, K, M and W. In the end, and with the £32,000 safe, player Glen had to make a guess and went for G. It turned out to be correct as Nicole Kidman, Frances McDormand and Kate Winslet are among the stars who have won the Best Actress gong since 2000. - Earlier this year, fans were left outraged after what they described as the "worst" question in the show's history. The 1% Club - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The query went as follows: "Edna's birthday is on the 6th of April and Jen's birthday falls on the 15th of October, therefore Amir's birthday must be the 'X' of January." It turns out the conundrum links the numbers with its position in the sentence, so 6th is the sixth word and 15th is the fifteenth word. Therefore, Amir's birthday is January 24th, corresponding to the 24th word in the sentence. - Viewers of Lee Mack's popular ITV show were left dumbfounded by a question that also left the players perplexed. The Chase - The ITV daytime favourite left fans scratching their heads when it threw up one of the most bizarre questions to ever grace the programme. One of the questions asked the player: "Someone with a nightshade intolerance should avoid eating what?" The options were - sweetcorn, potatoes, carrots - with Steve selecting sweetcorn but the correct answer was potatoes. With one more chance to win money, Gillian had another chance at the final jackpot question for £13,000. This time, with help from Canadian comedian Katherine Ryan. Advertisement The question was: "Of these restaurants, which opened in the UK first? KFC, McDonald's, Domino's or Wagamamas." Katherine admitted she hasn't been in the UK that long, but knows McDonald's is really old. Gillian agreed as she recalled having birthday parties there when she was young. However, the correct answer was KFC - prompting gasps from the celebrities and leaving Gillian devastated. Advertisement Michael called the episode "a heartbreaker" and a "rollercoaster night" as it is rare that all the contestants walk away with nothing. He ended the show saying: "We have no winner tonight, but thank you to all our experts. We'll see you next time - and hopefully we'll have a winner then - on The Wheel." Did you nail the final answer and walk away a winner? The Wheel is available to watch on BBC iPlayer. Trolls said I was a liar on Ozempic when I dropped 6 dress sizes, I wouldn't wish truth on worst enemy, says Enders star

'I would go days not even being able to lift a fork to my face, let alone eat something' WEIGHTY TRUTH Trolls said I was a liar on Ozempic when I dropped 6 dress sizes, I wouldn't wish truth on worst enemy, says Enders star EASTENDERS actress turned body-confidence influencer Melissa Suffield on why hurtful claims that her dramatic weight loss was down to diet drugs cut her deep. Having built a vast social media following on the back of an empowering body-confidence message, when Melissa Suffield started losing weight, she faced a bitter backlash. Advertisement 4 EastEnders star turned body-confidence influencer Melissa Suffield on why hurtful claims that her dramatic weight loss was down to Ozempic Credit: MELISSA SUFFIELD 4 The actress with partner Robert and their son River Credit: INSTAGRAM Many saw her noticeably slimmer frame as a betrayal of everything she stood for, and they informed her she'd 'lost her values'. As the former soap star dropped from a dress size 14-16 to an eight (sometimes even a six), others accused her of being on weight-loss injection Ozempic – an insult to someone who had fought so hard against society's beauty standards. The truth was that Melissa, who found fame more than 20 years ago playing EastEnders' Lucy Beale, was seriously ill. She was suffering from a little-known chronic condition called SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), which has made her life a living hell for the last 20 months. Advertisement The effects have been devastating. Symptoms of the condition include abdominal pain, bloating and changes in bowel movements. As well as rapid weight loss caused by her symptoms, Melissa's hair fell out and her mental health plummeted. She's also been sapped of energy, which has left her struggling to care for her five-year-old son River. It's hit her financially, too, as she's forked out thousands of pounds privately to get the answers the NHS couldn't give her. Advertisement 'I wouldn't wish this on my worst enemy,' she says. 'It's so consuming and relentless, because if it's not the nausea, it's the brain fog and crushing fatigue. 'People who have suggested I'm on weight-loss injections and then telling me I'm lying – I'd be happy to show them my bank statements proving that I've spent £15,000 on investigations into what's wrong.' Former EastEnders star has had '40 doctors appointments' and spent 'over five figures' amid gruelling health condition Although Melissa, 32, recognises the potential health benefits of drugs like Ozempic and Mounjaro in certain circumstances, having been through such misery with her digestive system lately, she can't get her head round why anyone who wasn't severely overweight would contemplate turning to the jabs. 'I can't fathom it. There will be situations where the benefits outweigh the risk. But there are so many people who are nowhere near that point, who just want to lose a few pounds, and that is such a bleak state of affairs.' Advertisement 'We seem to have fallen into a place where body positivity is dead' She adds: 'Now that I've witnessed first-hand the fragility of the digestive system, I know it's not to be messed with. You're playing with fire, if you bugger one bit up, the rest collapses.' Melissa, who has grown an audience of more than 187,000 followers on Instagram as @ says she's lost 'a lot of followers' over the last year – people who claim they no longer relate to her. She admits she's now worried about her future as a content creator, considering her personal brand has been built on the back of curves and loving the skin you're in. 'It's been nerve-wracking, 100%. I can't work for some of the brands I was working with on a regular basis. My boobs have shrunk and I don't fit the bras I was [promoting] so I'm losing income, too.' Advertisement The weight loss has also thrown up some personal conflict for Melissa, which she's still working through. 'When I first started losing weight, I'd look in the mirror and go: 'I look amazing!' and I'd have to stop myself, because that's what society wants – for me to be happy with a smaller body. And actually, I wasn't happy. I felt dreadful. 4 Melissa's illness led to a dramatic loss in weight 'I honestly feel like I'm afforded more respect now that I'm smaller, which is also depressing but not unsurprising, because we seem to have fallen into a place where body positivity is dead. We've gone backwards and I don't like being a part of that.' Advertisement Melissa's ordeal began shortly before Christmas 2023, when both she and River fell ill with a gastric bug on the same day. While River bounced back, Melissa showed no sign of a recovery and made an appointment with her GP as soon as the surgery re-opened. 'The doctor put me on anti-nausea medication and gave me a proton pump inhibitor (PPI), which reduces acid in the stomach. I have since found out that chronic use of PPIs can cause SIBO, so rather than getting to the root of my problem, I was exacerbating it.' Over the next few months, Melissa visited the GP as frequently as four times a week. Advertisement Her partner Robert, 43, works away as a cruise director, and the long spells of solo parenting were becoming increasingly gruelling. An ultrasound of Melissa's abdomen showed nothing wrong, and neither did an upper endoscopy, so after three months, she paid for a private gut health test, which reported an elevated level of methane. Thanks to her meticulous research, Melissa knew this indicated that it might be worth doing a SIBO test, which was positive. Since her diagnosis, Melissa has had to fight for treatment – she has amassed an encyclopaedic knowledge of her condition and is currently under the care of an NHS gastroenterologist, plus a team of private experts, as she works to find a solution. Advertisement 'My nutritional therapist probably has more pictures of my poo in her phone than she's had hot meals! But this is all money and I don't have a bottomless pit. 'I need to be killing the bacteria and healing my gut faster than they can grow back. At the moment, I'm in the middle of a round of antimicrobials, which are like natural antibiotics, and I'm hoping for the best.' 'I would go days not even being able to lift a fork to my face, let alone eat something' Treatment is very much trial and error, and Melissa says that in the meantime her life is in limbo. 'It's very isolating to have a gut condition and have to plan your whole life around it. I've felt guilt because I can't go for long walks to the park with River, we have to stay close to home in case I get tired or sick.' Advertisement Melissa is keen to use her platform to raise awareness and urges anyone with unexplained digestive issues to at least investigate the possibility of SIBO. 'I want to get to a place where everyone has at least heard of it and knows to ask for a test. The more people talk about it, the more the NHS is going to have to listen and learn.' 4 Back in her EastEnders days, when she played Lucy Beale Credit: EASTENDERS She says she's hopeful of leading a normal life again, or at least a new normal she can be happy with. Advertisement 'At the moment, I'm maintaining weight, it's not falling off me like last year, when I'd go days not even being able to lift a fork to my face, let alone eat something. 'I probably won't ever eat gluten or dairy again, but I've made my peace with that. 'I also think there's likely to be quite a lot of trauma to work through once I'm out the other side. But I'm a pretty pragmatic lady and so I'm ready for that.'

Fresh Strictly drug allegations as 10-year show veteran claims he was offered cocaine by one of it stars at wild party

The whistleblower claims on two separate occasions bags of white power were found in a smoking area and in the men's toilets STRICTLY SHOCK Fresh Strictly drug allegations as 10-year show veteran claims he was offered cocaine by one of it stars at wild party STRICTLY has been hit by fresh drug allegations from a former veteran worker on the show — including claims he was offered cocaine by one of its stars. The whistleblower, who worked on the family hit for ten years until 2023, said he saw 'partying' at the Elstree studios after live filming. He claimed on two separate occasions bags of white power, suspected to be cocaine, were found in a smoking area and also in the men's toilets. And the ex-production crew member alleges one of the Strictly stars offered him cocaine at a Blackpool show after-party. We have passed on his allegations to the BBC. Advertisement It comes after The Sun on Sunday revealed last week The Sun on Sunday revealed last week the BBC had launched an inquiry into allegations of cocaine abuse on Strictly by two stars. BBC bosses have hired external lawyers Pinsent Masons to speak to former contestants, professional dancers and crew. We told how one star accused another of being 'off their face' on drugs. And a celebrity had told how it was 'well known on the show that two stars took cocaine . . . it was talked about widely among the cast'. Advertisement Now, in the latest claims, the long-serving former production crew member, told The Sun on Sunday: 'Strictly is full of partying and drug -taking. BBC launches inquiry into damning allegations of drug consumption on flagship show Strictly Come Dancing 'The main partying is on site at Elstree after filming of the live show has finished. Boozing and drug taking goes on until 3am, sometimes 4am. 'The smoking area outside is a hive of activity. Cocaine gets taken there. 'I remember a bag of cocaine was found in the outside smoking area at Elstree and handed in to a senior producer. That person said, 'Leave it on my desk', no eyebrows were raised. Advertisement 'On another occasion, a small bag of cocaine was found in the male toilets at Elstree. It was widely discussed by people working on the show. 'But in some ways it was seen as quite normal, to find that sort of thing. "People think they can get away with it.' Strictly is full of partying and drug taking Whistleblower The whistleblower came forward after reading our story last Sunday and learning of the BBC-led inquiry. Advertisement He claimed the annual show filmed at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom was 'a particularly big celebration' for the cast and crew. He said: 'Blackpool was always a big party night. I was offered cocaine by a star at an after-show party. Lots of people would go back to the hotel. 'It was a closed-off party, just for the cast and crew. It went on until 5am, even to 6am, it was insane. People were wired and you could see it in their eyes. 'There was lots of champagne and Prosecco too, loads of bottles of it.' Advertisement He added that he thought it was 'well known' on the programme that one of the stars took cocaine, and that he felt they needed help. He said: 'They had a real problem with cocaine, lots of people spoke about it.' Referring to these latest allegations, a BBC spokesman said: 'We have clear protocols and policies in place for dealing with any serious complaint raised with us. 'We would always encourage people to speak to us if they have concerns.' Advertisement 3 The BBC is preparing to air its 23rd series of Strictly next month Credit: BBC Last night, a BBC source said they would look into the ex-worker's allegations and asked us to put him in touch with them — after the former worker said he was considering talking to the investigation team. It came as the BBC is prepared to launch its 23rd series of Strictly next month. The Corporation is hoping for a scandal-free show after previous ones were hit by numerous controversies. Advertisement They included Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington accusing Giovanni Pernice of bullying her and Graziano Di Prima being sacked for kicking his celebrity partner Zara McDermott. Last weekend, The Sun on Sunday revealed drugs allegations were made in a legal submission to the BBC in March, by law firm Russells, on behalf of celebrity contestant Wynne Evans — who was axed from the Strictly live tour after he was recorded making an inappropriate sexual comment. It was understood others have also reported to the BBC allegations of drug taking on Strictly. A source said: 'It's been an extremely difficult time for everyone connected to Strictly but, to be fair, the BBC acted promptly on The Sun's drug allegations and brought in external lawyers to help with their investigation. Advertisement 'They're clearly determined to clean up the show, which of course is a hugely popular family show, so it's no real surprise they are taking these allegations seriously and holding a proper inquiry. 'With the new Strictly series about to start, and the latest crop of celebrities being unveiled soon, the BBC will want it all to run smoothly.'
