TNS owner admits interest in buying Shrewsbury Town
The New Saints of Oswestry owner Mike Harris has confirmed on social media he made a bid to buy Shrewsbury Town last September and is still interested in exploring a takeover of the League One club. The two clubs - based just 18 miles apart - were already in negotiations over Saints' rental of Shrewsbury's Croud Meadow home to stage their three European Conference home ties.Town's 83-year-old owner Roland Wycherley then announced his continued intention to sell the League One club.A deal for a new multi-millionaire American owner to take over has been on the table since then, which included a six-month exclusivity period. That deal collapsed last week, allowing Shrewsbury the chance to explore other options, but Wycherley has warned that any other potential new buyers are unlikely to be local.Posting on X, Welshpool-born businessman Harris, who was behind the rise of telecom specialists Total Network Solutions in the late 1980s and is a boyhood Salop fan, says he wants to "engage with fans or a group of potential investors" and return the club to its "glory days".The Shropshire club, who have spent the last 10 seasons in the third tier, are the longest-serving members of League One, having even more impressively spent a decade in the second tier from 1979 to 1989.But, following their home defeat by Cambridge United on Saturday, they will be relegated back to League Two this Saturday if they lose their next two games.Oswestry-based TNS last month clinched their fourth straight Cymru Premier title - their 17th in the 33 seasons since the formation of a Welsh national league.BBC Radio Shropshire have approached Mike Harris for comment

Taylor Knibb insists 'I'm not the one to beat' as PTO resumes
Defending champion Taylor Knibb insists she is not the one to beat ahead of the T100 Triathlon World Tour's latest stop in Vancouver. Knibb romped to the world title last year but was beaten for the first time under the T100 in San Francisco a fortnight ago when she finished second behind Julie Derron. But the American was keen to highlight the strength in depth of the women's field, and shrugged off the notion that she had a target on her back on Canada's west coast. 'Defending would imply you have something to lose, so reframing that is more appropriate in that there is a world title on the line and I would like to do everything I can to get another world title,' she said. 'No one has earned it yet and it is all for the taking. 'There are a lot of really strong women in the field and if there is anyone who thinks I am the only person to beat, I have a list that is very extensive. 'There are a lot of women who are incredibly strong and incredibly talented. There are a lot of threats.' Knibb won all of her T100 races last season, picking up victories in San Francisco, Ibiza and Las Vegas before sealing the world title with a dominant display in Dubai last November. The 27-year-old was unable to repeat the feat in San Fransico two weeks ago, but the American was positive about her season opener having missed the first leg in Singapore. 'It was a great first race of the season and I am excited to keep on improving from there,' she said. 'I have a lot of work to do. You can't do it all in two weeks, you have to recover for the next race but I am excited for the season ahead.' Knibb will race in Vancouver for the first time in her career, as the T100 Triathlon World Tour makes its maiden stop in Canada. Having raced all around the globe, including at two Olympic Games, Knibb is embracing a new environment and a new course to get her teeth into. 'It's really fun to get to go to a place I've never been to before that is really quite gorgeous,' she added. 'In this sport, there are races that are held in the same place for numerous years and that's fantastic but after the 15th time of visiting a city, it is fun to go somewhere else. 'It looks like a fantastic course. I tried the bike course yesterday. The swim for the women is apparently going to be a really long run in, so we'll see how that plays out. 'It seems like a fantastic venue and the T100 has once again delivered a fantastic race course.' Watch the world's top 20 female and top 20 male triathletes race live in the Vancouver T100 on Saturday 14 June. The broadcast starts at 0915 local time, 1715 in the UK, with the men's race starting at 0930 and then the women at 1200. You can tune in live for free globally on PTO+ or watch on partners channels such as TNT Sports in the UK, Max or Discovery+ in Europe, or beIN in North America. For more details visit

Application Deadline Nears for Energy and Carbon Management Apprenticeship
Jemma Parsons, Head of The Green skills Academy at Coleg Sir Gar The deadline is approaching for Welsh employers to apply for a fully funded apprenticeship at Coleg Sir Gâr which aims to upskill teams with the green skills. The college, which offers the fully funded Level 3 Energy and Carbon Management Apprenticeship as part of their Green Skills Academy, has put out a final call for applications to be made by June 20. Limited places are available. The college says that high demand from across the region highlights that many businesses recognise the need to upskill their teams with the knowledge that will ensure they comply with the environmental and legal requirements needed to reach their net zero goals. The brand-new apprenticeship course offers a blend of theoretical knowledge and practical application, making it suitable for new recruits as well as existing members of staff. Expert training allows apprentices to learn to identify opportunities to lower energy costs and carbon emissions through improved efficiencies. Designed to minimise time spent away from regular duties, the 18-month part-time course is suitable for employees at all levels and only requires apprentices to spend two days per month training at the Green Skills Academy. Fully funded spaces available for eligible learners. Anyone over the age of 18, who lives in Wales, and is in employment and not in any other funded full-time course, can register their interest in the apprenticeship. Jemma Parsons, Head of the Green Skills Academy at Coleg Sir Gâr, said: 'The interest we have received for apprenticeships has shown that many businesses in the region understand the need to upskill their teams with green skills to stay competitive, meet environmental demands, and help protect the environment. 'This fully funded apprenticeship offers employers a vital chance to equip staff with the knowledge to cut energy use, reduce costs, and drive sustainability. With limited spaces remaining for flexible, part-time training, now is the time to invest in your workforce and Wales' greener future.' The Green Skills Academy training equips employees with the expertise needed to drive energy efficiency and sustainability in the workplace to strengthen their organisation's commitment to net zero goals and carbon reduction. The list of major local employers registering their teams for apprenticeship places includes Carmarthenshire County Council, Axium Process Ltd, LBS Builders Merchants and Barcud. Rhodri Griffiths, Head of Place and Sustainability at Carmarthenshire Country Council, said: 'Carmarthenshire County Council is committed to addressing the climate emergency and reducing our energy consumption. By investing in our employees through the new apprenticeship in Energy and Carbon Management from Coleg Sir Gâr, we are equipping them with the skills and knowledge necessary to make a significant impact. 'This initiative not only supports our sustainability goals but also empowers our staff to contribute effectively to a lower carbon future. Our commitment to this program reflects our dedication to fostering a sustainable environment and ensuring that our workforce is prepared to meet the challenges of climate change head-on.' With Wales positioning itself as a leader in energy management over the seven years, the course is specifically designed to help employers gain a competitive-edge by building in-house expertise essential to future-proofing energy management capabilities. Providing the ability to demonstrate strong sustainability credentials and net zero commitments, the apprenticeship also helps organisations meet the requirements of procurement and supply chain opportunities. Swansea Building Society Launches New Mobile App
Swansea Building Society has officially launched its new mobile app. The new digital service marks a significant step forward for the Society it said, enabling customers to transfer funds between existing Society accounts, withdraw funds to nominated accounts (subject to account terms), and set and monitor personal savings goals. The platform also gives users access to mortgage information, secure messaging with the Society's team, and the ability to manage marketing preferences and voting options for the Society's AGM. In doing so, Swansea Building Society becomes the first Welsh building society to offer a dedicated savings app — which it described as another milestone in its journey to deliver greater accessibility for members across Wales and beyond. Initially launched via the web in early April, followed by an iOS release in May, the app is now also available on Android devices. It can be downloaded from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. Security has been a core focus during the app's development, which spanned 12 to 18 months. The result is an app that includes biometric authentication such as Face ID and Touch ID. Throughout the development process, Swansea Building Society said it aimed to provide a high-quality, secure user experience while maintaining the core values that set the Society apart. It said that while this new service offers convenience and flexibility for customers who prefer to manage their finances digitally, it is intended to enhance — not replace — the Society's longstanding commitment to personal, face-to-face service through its branch network. Nick Longar, Head of IT at Swansea Building Society, said: 'We developed the app and online platform using a phased approach to ensure everything met our standards for usability and security. It's a major advancement for the Society, giving our customers access to their accounts in a way that suits their lifestyle — all while keeping their information safe and secure.' Alun Williams, Chief Executive of Swansea Building Society, added: 'This launch represents a pivotal moment for us as we continue to evolve to meet our customers' needs. Our digital service complements the personal approach that has always been central to our ethos. With this latest development, we are proud to offer more choice, more flexibility, and even better service — without compromising on what makes us different.' The launch of the new app and online service follows the Society's fourth consecutive year of record growth. The Society remains one of the few financial institutions in the UK that receives no wholesale funding or support from the Bank of England in the form of cheap funding. Its balance sheet is funded entirely by customer savings balances and its own capital reserves built up from retained profits over many years.
