Doncaster stun Middlesbrough to maintain winning start to the season
McCann made 11 changes at the Riverside but his second string were deserving winners against Boro, who lost under new head coach Rob Edwards for the first time.
Rovers took the lead in the 11th minute when Boro were made to pay for cheaply conceding possession in their own half. Jordan Gibson found Billy Sharp in the box and the experienced striker teed up Ben Close, whose shot deflected in off defender George McCormick.
The home side responded well and Delano Burgzorg's fierce strike from inside the penalty area crashed off the near post.
However, Doncaster doubled their lead in the 23rd minute thanks to another heavy deflection, with Boro defender Alfie Jones diverting Damola Ajayi's shot from inside the box beyond goalkeeper Tom Glover.
Robbie Gotts fired in the third goal from outside the box six minutes from time, before Tom Nixon curled in the fourth deep in stoppage time.

Barnsley beat Fleetwood on penalties to reach Carabao Cup second round
After the match had finished 2-2, Cooper saved Fleetwood's first penalty by Ryan Graydon before Patrick Kelly missed Barnsley's fifth spot kick. Former Tykes striker James Norwood then scored to take it to sudden death. Reyes Cleary scored from 12 yards, before Cooper saved again from George Morrison as the League One side won 5-4 in the shoot-out. The hosts opened the scoring on 15 minutes after Cleary's cross was headed home at the back post by midfielder Jon Russell. Will Johnson had the ball in the back of the net for Fleetwood on 23 minutes but it was disallowed as he had scored directly from a throw-in. Davis Keillor-Dunn almost doubled Barnsley's lead on 26 minutes but volleyed over from inside the area. Liam Roberts equalised for Fleetwood on the stroke of half-time, scoring directly from a corner. Barnsley took the lead in the 59th minute, as Toby Mullarkey turned a Cleary cross into his own net. Substitute Owen Devonport levelled in the fourth minute of added time, firing past Cooper in front of the travelling fans to send the match to penalties.
