KANOWIT (May 13): An allocation totalling RM100 million will soon be distributed to four former Rajang Area Security Command (Rascom) resettlements in Kanowit and Selangau, said Anyi Jana.
The Ngemah assemblyman stated that the allocation from the state government is intended for repairing longhouses in the resettlements, namely Nanga Jagau, Nanga Ngungun, Nanga Tada and Nanga Sekuau.
'Each resettlement will receive RM25 million. For Nanga Ngungun, I have asked Penghulu Pree Minggat to discuss with the longhouse chiefs the repairs they wish to undertake using the funds,' he said when officiating the management and computer workshop at Nanga Ngungun National Information Dissemination Centre (Nadi) here on Sunday.
The workshop was organised by the Ngemah Service Centre and the Nanga Ngungun Village Security and Development Committee (JKKK), in collaboration with Nanga Ngungun Nadi.
Anyi emphasised that JKKK secretaries play a crucial role in longhouse administration, and therefore, they must equip themselves with at least basic computer skills.
'There are many JKKK secretaries in the Ngemah state constituency who are still unable to prepare minutes of meeting, official letters, reports and so on.
'I hope all JKKK secretaries will learn the necessary skills for preparing minutes of meeting through this workshop,' he said, adding that similar workshops will be held in other areas of Ngemah soon.
Meanwhile, organising chairman Vester Selo said the workshop focuses on management and computer skills.
'Among the modules covered in this workshop are basic computer skills as well as the preparation of minutes of meeting, official letters, reports and memorandums,' he said.
Thirty-two JKKK secretaries from longhouses in Nanga Ngungun attended the workshop.
Also present were Anyi's wife Gelim Utan, Cr Mutang Kerani, Nanga Ngungun Nadi manager Donny Stanley and assistant Maygrace Magai. allocation anyi jana Kanowit lead Rascom resettlements Selangau

Fire victim gets new home through community aid

Published on: Friday, June 06, 2025 Published on: Fri, Jun 06, 2025 By: Iskandar Dzulkifli Text Size: Afnah (second from right) and Harun with other supporters in front of the new home at Kampung Taka. PITAS: Afnah Tundan, 51, who lost her home in a fire last year at Kampung Taka, here, has received relief through the construction of a new house. The new house, built on land adjacent to her original home, was made possible through assistance from the Sabah State Welfare Foundation (YKNS) and several compassionate individuals. Advertisement Joy radiated from the mother of three when she received the keys to her new home from Datuk Harun Ismail, Deputy Chief of the Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Pitas division. Afnah, who also lost her beloved husband, a daughter, and an uncle in the tragedy, described the aid as a great blessing from Allah SWT. 'I was unable to build a new house because I am unemployed and relied on my two working daughters to support me and my youngest child who is still in school,' she said. 'After the tragedy, I had to stay with family, but now Allah SWT has answered my prayers through kind-hearted people who made this new house a reality. 'I am very grateful to all involved, especially Datuk Harun Ismail for his initiative in providing this help,' she added during the key handover ceremony at Kampung Taka. (31 May) In early August last year, the tragedy struck when the headmaster of SK Senaja, his 12-year-old daughter, and another family member died in a fire that destroyed their home in Kampung Taka. Meanwhile, Datuk Harun, who is also the Managing Director and CEO of the Sabah Oil and Gas Development Corporation (Sogdc), revealed that approximately RM61,000 was spent to build the 500-square-foot house. He said YKNS contributed RM30,000 toward the project, while the remainder was funded by generous individuals as part of their corporate social responsibility (CSR). 'The new home features two bedrooms, a kitchen, a bathroom, and basic amenities including water and electricity supply, complete with lights and fans. Construction began in March and has now been fully completed for Afnah and her children to move in, offering them renewed hope,' he said. In other developments, Harun, who is also President of the Sabah Dusun Islam Association (PDIS), announced plans to build a transit hostel at SK Bawing, Pitas, in the near future. He said the new facility would replace the existing dilapidated transit house in the remote area, which is no longer safe for students to reside in. 'We are currently finalizing the design process and expect to start the RM100,000 project within two weeks, God willing. The transit hostel will include separate dormitories for boys and girls, equipped with bunk beds, toilets, and bathrooms to ensure the students' comfort,' he explained. 'PDIS has previously built a similar facility that is still operational at Kampung Mendurian. We also cover the food and living expenses of the children while they stay at the transit hostels,' he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Former TV station employee faints while facing 743 data tampering charges

KUALA LUMPUR: A former television station employee fainted in the dock after part of the 743 charges of data tampering involving the company's customer management system were read out to her in the Sessions Court here today. Nora Idayu Jaafar, 48, who was serving with Astro at the time, collapsed and fainted as the court interpreter was reading the 30th charge under the Computer Crimes Act 1997 before Judge Norma Ismail. The court then set June 26 for the reading of the remaining 713 charges, after the accused pleaded not guilty to the first 30. The court allowed Nora Idayu bail of RM10,000 with one surety, with the added conditions that she must surrender her passport to the court until the case is concluded and report to the nearest police station once a month. According to the 30 charges, in her capacity as an associate with the Department of Commercial Support Unit at Astro, she allegedly modified data by converting 30 ordinary customer accounts into corporate accounts in the Astro customer management system (AMDOCS CRM), resulting in unauthorised database alterations. The offences were allegedly committed at the Astro Office at Menara Icon, Jalan Tun Razak here. The charges, under Section 5 (1) of the Computer Crimes Act 1997, provide for a penalty of up to RM100,000 fine or imprisonment of up to seven years, or both, upon conviction. The prosecution was conducted by deputy public prosecutor Rohaiza Abdul Rahman, while the accused was unrepresented.
