The mystery behind Julian McMahon's death is finally over, thanks to his autopsy report.
The Australian actor died on July 2 at 56 following a private battle with cancer. His wife, Kelly, confirmed the heartbreaking news in a poignant statement that captured her loss and love for her longtime partner.
Julian McMahon is survived by Kelly and his daughter Madison, whom he welcomed with ex-wife Brooke Burns.
McMahon's cause of death was revealed in a Cremation Approval Summary Report from the Pinellas County Medical Examiner's Office in Florida. The report obtained by PEOPLE revealed the TV personality had succumbed to lung metastasis.
Lung metastasis or secondary cancer, per WebMD, occurs when the cancer cells from a primary site travel to the lungs. It is a life-threatening condition that reportedly plagues about a third of the people who have cancer. In McMahon's case, the cancer cells spread from the head and neck regions.
The actor's manner of death was ruled as natural, with his cause of death listed as lung metastasis stemming from head and neck metastatic cancer. McMahon's remains have since been cremated, bringing closure to his loved ones days after his wife confirmed his passing.
News of McMahon's cancer battle came through his wife in an emotional statement where she confirmed his death. The Blast covered the story, reporting that she revealed her husband had valiantly fought against cancer behind closed doors.
"Julian loved life. He loved his family. He loved his friends. He loved his work, and he loved his fans. His deepest wish was to bring joy into as many lives as possible," the grieving wife claimed. She thanked fans for their support but implored them for privacy.
