Emmerdale's Jay Kontzle's popstar past and 'best times' on Britain's Got Talent
The 34-year-old burst onto our screens in 2018, and has been at the centre of major storylines since then.
However, Emmerdale isn't the first time Jay has been known for his TV appearances.
Jay was a member of boyband The Mend, formed in 2008 by former Take That manager Nigel Martin-Smith.
They first appeared on TV on The X Factor in 2011, but left abruptly when it was revealed that having a management deal was a rule break.

Although The Mend broke up in 2015, they went on to tour with the likes of Little Mix and secured a dedicated fanbase.
While reflecting on his popstar days, he told Cheshire Live: "Being part of The Mend was a huge life experience for me and some of the best times of my life.
"Obviously, being on tour and performing live on TV gave me so much experience, but as we grew older, we realised that as a boy band that catered for teenagers, we couldn't keep re-inventing ourselves."

Jay decided to take a different career route after his boyband days, and made the role of Billy his own in Emmerdale.
Viewers were keen to tune in to see his on-screen antics with wife Dawn and the challenges they faced.
Jay's acting credits before Emmerdale include Fresh Meat with Jack Whitehall, a role in Diana and I, a Moonpig advert and behind-the-scenes work on the films Underwater and Bring Back My Bonnie, reports The Mirror.

Coronation Street star Jack P. Shepherd was "really beat" by an elderly woman in a supermarket when he was just 12 years old. The 37-year-old actor - who has played David Platt in the ITV soap since 2000 - recalled going shopping with his mum Janet when they were accosted by an "old" lady, who was unimpressed by his soap alter ego, prompting his parent to intervene when she lashed out. Jack told his Coronation Street co-star Ben Price, 54, and his former soap colleague Colson Smith, 27, on the latest episode of their On the Sofa podcast: "I was recognised by an old woman in the freezer section. I was with my mum doing the big shop. "And [the woman] started to hit me with a handbag. "Before saying anything. She was so furious to see me. "I was just cheeky. So I'd have been 12. "[The woman] full on really beat me with a bag. "My mum went up [to the woman]. I think my mum kind of like half laughed it off and went, 'It's not real.'" Elsewhere in the podcast, Jack remembered he once faked being a Co-Op worker so police could stop die-hard Coronation Street fans from mobbing him. The soap star switched on the Christmas Lights in the West Yorkshire town of Kippax, and thousands of people turned up to see him kick off the festive celebrations Once the lights had been switched on, Jack recalled a "siege" of people rushing towards him, and he had to seek refuge in a nearby Co-Op supermarket. He said: "There was a sea of people [that] turned up to see a young David Platt. I must have been about 13, 14, something like that. Really young. "And I turned on their Christmas lights, and there was a siege. "They all started to head towards [me] and tried to climb on the stage. "They tried to get on, and I had to be escorted into the Co-Op. "[The Co-Op staff] had to lock the doors of the Co-Op. All the Co-Op workers were in there, and we couldn't get out because they surrounded the building. "I couldn't get out and go through the crowds because there were too many [fans]." Worried that Jack's safety was at risk, police escorted him out of Kippax. He dressed up as a Co-Op worker and hid his face to avoid being seen by a rush of fans, but his disguise did not work. Jack revealed: "Honestly, [there were] too many [fans]. We had to then get a police escort out of Kippax. "The police were called because I was a small child. "And police escorts had to arrive on motorbikes, and they had to put blue lights on, blue light me out. "I had the hat and I had the t-shirt. "I was going out, I was going out through the crowds, keeping my head down [as a] Co-Op worker. And I got into the car. "And I handed the hat back to one of the Co-Op workers. "And then [all the fans] turned like zombies. And they all went, 'He's there!' And they all ran towards me. "And I dived in the car. And the police had to blue light me out [of Kippax]. "And I remember physically watching the police on the bikes, and they were kicking people back. They were literally kicking people back."

BBC Strictly Come Dancing's 14th contestant revealed with surprise link to former winner
Lioness Karen Carney has joined the 2025 line-up of Strictly Come Dancing. England's third most capped player is the 14th amatuer dancer to join the show The final two stars appeared on BBC Radio 2's morning show with Gary Davies, who was standing in for Vernon Kay. The thirteenth's identity was revealed moments before live on ITV's Lorraine and is the show's LA celeb correspondent, Ross King. Karen told R2 listeners: "I'm huge fan of the show and I can't wait. It's a relief to get this out there. Only a couple of people who need to know. You kinda want to be part of that Strictly secrecy." The former Arsenal player follows in the footsteps of her ex-Lioness roommate, Alex Scott, who appeared on the show in 2019 and Karen added: "I'll be asking her for some tips." "When you're watching it at home, you're mesmerised. I got to watch it in the studio last year, I begged for a ticket." Gary then asked Karen what her favourite Strictly moment was and she opened up about a surprise connection with last year's glitterball holder, comedian Chris McCausland. "Seeing Chris win was great - I used to live in the same block as Chris." With 144 caps, Karen is England's third most-capped player, competing at four World Cups, four European Championships and the London Olympics before retiring in 2019. Aside from her incredible playing and broadcast career, Karen has secured a name for herself as a trailblazer in the advancement of women in sport. In 2022 she began leading a landmark government review with the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, into the 'Future of Women's Football' in the UK, every recommendation of which was successfully backed by the government in 2023. In the same year, she also hosted the ITV series Leaders of the Pack which saw her have candid conversations with key figures in women's international football. Karen made history at the men's World Cup 2022 as part of the first all-female line-up to analyse a men's football game. Summer 2024 saw her lead the ITV coverage of the men's Euros, including the nail-biting final between England and Spain. She again led the way for ITV in both of the Lionesses' 2022 and 2025 historic women's Euro wins. Karen was awarded an MBE in 2017, and an OBE in 2024, for services to association football. Strictly's 2025 celebs ranked — who'll sparkle and who's doomed?
Here's our breakdown of Strictly Come Dancing's 2025 celebrity line-up, with predictions ranging from potential winners to early exits. I know we've been saying it every year since around 2017, but this time it really does feel like the BBC has finally succeeded in creating the worst line-up in Strictly Come Dancing history. If you were being kind, you might say it's a mixed bag. If you were being honest, you'd say it's a reject's bag. It's less of a "Who's who?" of showbiz, more of a "Who's said no?" No genuine A-lister to be seen, and far too many reality show refugees. Still, I guess it could have been worse. With those recent backstage cocaine allegations in mind, I guess we're just lucky some the casting team hadn't taken up the baton from Celebrity SAS and booked the other one from the Peru Two. You can criticise the BBC all you like for this state of affairs, but I place the blame squarely on one man's shoulders. Simon Cowell. When he ruined The X Factor, he gave the BBC a free run on Saturday nights. Now we've reached the stage where the Strictly bookers know it doesn't really matter who they sign up, because the viewers will almost certainly still tune in regardless. It's a risky strategy, for sure. Once I've taken you through this year's fifteen Glitterball hunters, you can decide whether you think the Beeb has taken a gamble too far. Dani Dyer "Listen you slags, there's no way you're getting a proper geezer like me on that dancefloor. Book my daughter though, and I might come and sit on your front row one week." I'm not saying that's the exact conversation Danny Dyer had with the Strictly team, but you have to wonder what daughter Dani Dyer has done lately to deserve a slot. However, her likability factor is high, and I've heard she's a bit of a mover. Predicted finish: 1st Ellie Goldstein Given the recent success of Chris McCausland and Rose Ayling-Ellis, I think we can assume that the Strictly voters are all in favour of inclusivity. With that in mind, only a fool would bet against Ellie Goldstein, who was the first model with Down syndrome to appear on the cover of British Vogue, making it to the final. She's got the personality, and if it turns out she can dance half as well as Chris and Rose, she could even nick it. Predicted finish: 2nd George Clarke If you ask me, Strictly started going downhill when it started signing up YouTubers and social media influencer types. Unfortunately, quite a few of them have been quite useful on the dancefloor, so I suppose I'll have to just suck it up. The kids will block vote for George Clarke even if he stinks the joint out. Predicted finish: 3rd Vicky Pattinson Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattinson won I'm A Celebrity a decade ago, so she definitely knows her way around a popularity contest. Whether she knows her way around a ballroom is another matter. Despite her claims that she's not a dancer, I have a feeling she might be a quick learner. Predicted finish: 4th Harry Aikines-Aryeetey/Balvinder Sopal I've put these two hopefuls together because "You have to have a Gladiator" appears to have become the new "You have to have an EastEnder". Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, aka Nitro, did the Christmas Special last year, so we already know he isn't hopeless on the dancefloor. As for Balvinder Sopal, the Walford mob usually do OK, so unless she's got two left feet, she should pull in a few votes. Predicted finish: 5th & 6th Stefan Dennis I'm expecting big things from Stefan Dennis, this year's nostalgia booking, although the fact that his record company clearly didn't trust him enough to dance in the video for Don't It Make You Feel Good is making me a tad nervous. The fact that, at 66, the Neighbours legend is also this year's oldest contestant don't make me feel any gooder. Nostalgia though, is a powerful drug. Predicted finish: 7th Karen Carney After the summer the England women's football team have had, I can see why the BBC wanted some of that Lioness magic on the show. The bookers were never going to get one of the current squad to sign up, so some viewers might see stylish pro-turned-pundit Karen Carney as a lazy token gesture by the Beeb. However, if she lands a good partner she could stick around. Predicted finish: 8th. Alex Kingston Alex Kingston is arguably the biggest name this year. She's best known these days for playing River Song on Doctor Who, but older viewers will recall her starring role in the legendary hospital drama E.R. That said, I can't help thinking she only got the Strictly call because Hannah Waddingham must have said no. Predicted finish: 9th Chris Robshaw Chris Robshaw's a handsome lad and a former rugby player. The Strictly viewers tend to like handsome lads and rugby players. Logic dictates, therefore, that Robshaw won't be going home before Halloween. Predicted finish: 10th Thomas Skinner The BBC booking JD Vance's new best mate has already raised a few eyebrows in political quarters. Thomas Skinner was good value on The Apprentice in 2019, and if the Strictly viewers take a liking to his "honest to goodness working class boy" persona, he could surprise a few people. I have three pieces of advice for him. One, stay off social media. Two, ditch the MAGA caps. Three, don't say "Bosh" in the studio. Predicted finish: 11th La Voix Surely the BBC is scraping the barrel by giving a slot to La Voix, whose biggest claim to fame to date was failing on Britain's Got Talent? There will also doubtless be a few grumbles about the Beeb having a drag act on a family show, but I don't think it's that big a deal. Craig Revel Horwood's appeared in drag loads of times. Standing 6ft in heels, La Voix's main stumbling block could be finding a partner to pair up with. Predicted finish: 12th Ross King When I heard Lorraine Kelly's veteran Hollywood reporter Ross King had got the call, two thoughts crossed my mind. Either an office junior misheard their boss when they told them to book Ross Kemp, or the production accountant wanted to save a few quid on the fake tan budget. King is a lively fella to have around the place, but I suspect he'll be there for a fun time rather than a long time. Predicted finish: 13th Kristian Nairn When the BBC announced Hodor from Game of Thrones as this year's final contestant, all hope that they might be saving the best till last went out of the window. It was less "Hold the door", more "Shut the front door!" Who knows, perhaps his DJing background means he's got some rhythm buried within that 6ft 10in frame? At least his time with the dragons and bloodthirsty tyrants on GoT will stand him in good stead for when he meets the Strictly judges. Predicted finish: 14th Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink Strictly loves an ex-footballer, so it's not too surprising to see one on the list. The problem is I haven't seen anything to suggest Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink will provide the sort of comedy Tony Adams and Paul Merson brought to the ballroom. Unless he's been hiding some nifty dancing feet in his shooting boots, he must be favourite for an early bath. Predicted finish: 15th The Strictly Come Dancing 2025 lineup in full
