Emmerdale's Jay Kontzle's popstar past and 'best times' on Britain's Got Talent
Emmerdale fan favourite Billy Fletcher, played by Jay Kontzle, may be part of action-packed storylines in the Dales – but Jay's past career was quite the adventure too.
The 34-year-old burst onto our screens in 2018, and has been at the centre of major storylines since then.
However, Emmerdale isn't the first time Jay has been known for his TV appearances.
Jay was a member of boyband The Mend, formed in 2008 by former Take That manager Nigel Martin-Smith.
They first appeared on TV on The X Factor in 2011, but left abruptly when it was revealed that having a management deal was a rule break.

Although The Mend broke up in 2015, they went on to tour with the likes of Little Mix and secured a dedicated fanbase.
While reflecting on his popstar days, he told Cheshire Live: "Being part of The Mend was a huge life experience for me and some of the best times of my life.
"Obviously, being on tour and performing live on TV gave me so much experience, but as we grew older, we realised that as a boy band that catered for teenagers, we couldn't keep re-inventing ourselves."

Jay decided to take a different career route after his boyband days, and made the role of Billy his own in Emmerdale.
Viewers were keen to tune in to see his on-screen antics with wife Dawn and the challenges they faced.
Jay's acting credits before Emmerdale include Fresh Meat with Jack Whitehall, a role in Diana and I, a Moonpig advert and behind-the-scenes work on the films Underwater and Bring Back My Bonnie, reports The Mirror.

ITV The Chase's Bradley Walsh says 'wow' after hearing contestant's impressive job
Bradley Walsh said "wow" when one player revealed what he does for a day job. Jack, Dorrett, Kim and Simon made up the team of four contestants who were keen to test their general knowledge skills on the hit ITV quiz show. Simon from Oxfordshire was first up to take on The Chaser, who in this case was Anne Hegarty aka The Governess. But first, Bradley Walsh was lost for words when he heard what the contestant does as his day job. Simon explained he had worked for 30 years in the Royal Air Force. The ITV presenter asked what rank he was, suggesting roles such as "Commander." But Simon replied: "I'm an air vice marshal." No you're not." Simon joked: "I'm surprised too." Brad turned to the team and said: "Wow." He added: "An air vice marshal that's big news guys." The impressive position is a senior officer rank, above air commodore and below air marshal. It is equivalent to the rank of rear admiral in the Royal Navy or major general in the army. When the host came to terms with Simon's impressive role, he continued the regular game-play as Simon tackled the Cash Builder round. He accumulated an impressive £6,000 and bagged himself a spot in the final. Simon returned to his teammates and kickstarted the shared cash prize pot ahead of Kim's turn to take on The Governess. She gave a great performance and earned £5,000 for the team. However, her time on the ITV show came to an unfortunate end when she was caught by The Chaser. She soon heard Bradley's dreaded words: "For you, The Chase is over" and she left the show empty-handed. Dorrett was next up who hoped to make a better impression against The Governess. She proved her general knowledge skills as she joined Simon in the final and increased the prize pot to £11,000. Jack was eager to join the quizzers after he accumulated an impressive £8,000 in the Cash Builder. He gave a great performance against The Chaser and secured his spot alongside Simon and Dorrett. With the cash pot now standing at £19,000, the three quizzers tested their luck in the final chase. But their score of 17 was not strong enough to triumph against The Governess, and they were caught with just one second remaining. The Chase airs weekdays at 5pm ITV1 and ITVX

These are the shortest Love Island appearances ever, as contestant is axed before the show even starts
Love Island is about to celebrate its 10th anniversary and it appears 10 years in the show is still making history. In a first for the ITV2 show late last night (3 June) it was confirmed one of the Islanders from the initial lineup announced earlier that day had already been axed from the upcoming series. ITV confirmed Kyle Ashman would no longer be taking part in series 12 in a short statement: "For personal reasons, Kyle will not be entering the Love Island Villa as planned." It was revealed by The Sun Ashman had previously been arrested on suspicion of a machete attack. Back in February this year a man was attacked at a wake with a machete, after a number of individuals stormed the event. Ashman was one of two individuals questioned over the event, however the police confirmed to The Sun the matter had been investigated and the pair were released with no further action. Ashman has since issued a statement, telling the Daily Mail: "I fully cooperated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident. I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation." In the 10 years since the show began, Ashman has quite literally had the shortest appearance on the series. However, he's not alone as over the years there's been many micro visits to the Villa. From around twenty minutes to less than 48 hours, there's been some noticeable short stints, and we've rounded up the shortest. When Shannon entered the villa on day one of season seven back in 2021 everyone was convinced she was going to be the 'it' girl of the season. However, she made history by getting the earliest dumping of the show. It was the third day when now Love Island legend Chloe Burrows entered the Villa. On Chloe's first day she was told to pick a boy to couple up with. She chose Aaron who was with Shannon at the time. After Chloe picked Aaron, Shannon received a text saying she had been dumped from the Island. Savage. All the way back in season one, Love Island casts twins John and Tony. The pair entered the Villa early on Day 3, however just 72 hours later they were dumped from the Island after failing to make a connection. These two came, saw, dressed as firemen and left. Yep, back in series four in 2018, Kieran and Idris were late arrival bombshells so they didn't stand much of a chance. After failing to form any connections they were dumped together just three days after they arrived together. Ollie stared in the first series of Winter Love Island, but clearly didn't like the South African sun as he chose to quit the Villa just three days into his stay. He said he realised he still had feelings for his ex-girlfriend Laura, and it was clearly the right decision as the pair are now married. David arrived for the second Winter Love Island series in 2023, but didn't stay for long. He entered alongside Zara Lackenby-Brown on Day 3, but while Zara went onto stay for a few more weeks, David was dumped just two days into his stay after he failed to make a connection with any of the Islanders. Chuggs first appeared on Love Island back in 2021 in season seven. However, just as he arrived so two did new bombshell Rachel Finni who was tasked with picking between Chuggs and Brad. After she picked Brad, it meant Chuggs was dumped from the Island. Chuggs managed to stay slightly longer when he appeared on Love Island All Stars this year, where he appeared for a full week, but still didn't manage to make a connection. Back in series two James had one of the shortest stints on the series. He entered on day 18 and expressed his interest in Kady McDermott, who was not interested and two days later James was out. Season seven had quite it's fair share of short appearances, and the shortest of these goes to Georgia Townend. She arrived on Love Island on day 23 and tried to crack on with Hugo Hammond. However, Hugo wasn't really interested and so with no other connections forming, Georgia left the villa during a dumping on day 25. Ben and Poppy arrived towards the end of series one on day 32 and less than 24 hours later they were dumped from the Island. Ok so does anyone recognise this guy? He appeared in season two and arrived on day 30 and was then dumped a day later. Up until Kyle Ashman, Malia held the title for shortest Love Island appearance of all time. She arrived for season two and took Scott Thomas on a date. When they returned to the villa, Malia met Kady who Scott was getting to know. The pair got into an altercation after Malia believed Kady had split wine on her on purpose, the altercation got physical and Malia was removed from the Billa. Love Island begins on 9th June on ITV2 and ITVX
