West Ham eye move for forgotten £35million Arsenal star

Metro2 days ago
West Ham are looking to accelarate their summer recruitment drive and are eyeing a move for Arsenal outcast Fabio Vieira.
Much was expected for the Portugal Under-21 international when he joined the Gunners from Porto three years ago.
After showing only flashes of potential during two indifferent, injury interrupted seasons in north London, Vieira was loaned back to his boyhood club last term.
The 25-year-old regained some of the confidence that marked him out as such an exciting talent but securing a permanent return to the Portuguese club was beyond Porto's financial means.
Vieira has been linked with a £20m move to Parma who are now managed by Mikel Arteta's former assistant Carlos Cuesta.

Whether the Serie A club are able to meet Arsenal's valuation remains to be seen, but the Hammers are now expressing an interest, as per Ben Jacobs.
No club-to-club talks have taken place yet, but the creative midfielder has been added to a list of potential targets in the knowledge he has been deemed surplus to requirements by Arteta.
With Martin Odegaard now back to full fitness and the likes of Ethan Nwaneri and Max Dowman emerging as credible first team options, Vieira wasn't included in the squad that departed for its pre-season tour last week.
Dowman, in particular, has caught the eye in the friendly wins over AC Milan and Newcastle. More Trending
Indeed, the 15-year-old sensation played a key role against the Magpies, winning the late penalty that saw Odegaard secure a second successive victory from the spot.
'Yeah, it is special,' said Arteta on Sunday. 'Obviously what he's done today against this team in the time that he had on the pitch is something certainly not common to witness for a 15-year-old.
'We are extremely happy to have him. I think again the environment that he's around in, his family, the people at the club and around the academy as well.
'Super helpful because they put him into this position so early in his journey having a real chance and a real presence when he plays for the first team.'

David Gray names Hibs three stars who can fill Nectar Triantis void

The midfielder return to the Stadium of Light after impressing on loan at Easter Road David Gray insists Hibs can be proud of the platform they gave Nectar Triantis after all but confirming that the midfielder will not be returning to Easter Road. ‌ The Leith side were desperate to bring back the 22-year-old following the success of his loan stint from Sunderland last season. ‌ Even if the Sydney-born player does not get the chance to feature for the Black Cats in the Premier League, Triantis wants a fresh challenge with clubs from the English Championship, MLS and mainland European all interested. ‌ And despite facing a losing battle in his bid to re-sign Triantis as Hibs prepare for tonight's crunch second leg against Midtjylland, Gray insists there are no hard feelings. He said: 'We've also been very clear that it's not just Nectar Triantis, we can't put everything into one position or one player. 'So the hard work has been going on and whilst it was still a potential opportunity, you'd always look to try and explore it because of how well he'd done. 'But it was always going to be that with it being his second loan spell here, how well he'd done, his parent club getting promoted and what his situation was going to be. 'He was a pleasure to work with, that was one of the reasons why we wanted to bring him back in the first place. 'He's a real humble, hard working boy that's constantly trying to improve all the time and as a coach that's what you want as a dream to work with. ‌ 'I'm the head coach I've judged every week at 5 o'clock and what the result is, that's the immediate job is to win games of football. 'But my job title and my first thing is to make sure I improve every single player every day if you can, and make sure every player feels like they're improving all the time. 'Nector's a positive example of someone who came in, found a new position and has certainly improved over 12 months and that's a lot of hard work from everybody involved and the group of players he's working with.' And Gray insists he will not necessarily need a like-for-like replacement with midfielders Jamie McGrath and Josh Mulligan having already arrived this summer. He added: 'We've got a lot of quality in there currently in the building which is great. 'We've added to that as well with Jamie and Josh that can play centrally and still got Joe Newell to come back, he's someone that's been out for a significant period.'

Charlie Adam spills beans on Dundee job snub as he airs thoughts on Steven Pressley

The lifelong fan and former captain threw his hat in the ring to replace Tony Docherty but never heard back The call never came. ‌ But Charlie Adam insists he's ready to answer if opportunity knocks as he seeks a return to management. ‌ Adam threw his hat in the ring for the Dundee job over the summer after Tony Docherty's shock sacking. ‌ The lifelong fan and former captain had his heart set on taking over the reins at Dens Park. But the ex-Liverpool and Scotland star never heard back from his beloved club as the Dark Blues opted for Steven Pressley. He revealed: 'No, I had no discussions at all. I applied like probably a number of others and ultimately they've decided to go a different direction. "That's up to them and they make a decision on that. "But the club is there and I'll always support them and hopefully we can start getting the season up and running and start the season well because it was a tough end to the season. "Hopefully fresh ideas and something different, then Steven can get the team winning and build something this season.' ‌ Adam was axed less than a year into his first crack at management with Fleetwood Town. But that hasn't dented the former Rangers midfielder's desire to be his own man. Adam - who left Everton after a short stint as set-piece coach - said: 'I want to get back in, yeah, absolutely. ‌ "I had 50 games at Fleetwood and came out and then went into Everton for four months at the back end of the season and loved it. "But, yeah, I want to be a number one. I want to be a coach and that's my next route and path. "I'm open to anything. I'm open to coming to Scotland and looking at what the situations are. ‌ "I looked at a couple of jobs that became available in the summer. "But, again, you have to respect what the clubs are looking at and what they've done and that's the way football goes. But I'm always keeping an eye on Scottish football.' ‌ The left-field appointment of Pressley certainly caught Dundee fans by surprise. And the pressure is already on Elvis after the Dees were eliminated from the Premier Sports Cup. American owners John Nelms and Tim Keyes have come under fire from sections of the support but Adam is totally convinced the club are in the right hands. ‌ Speaking at the SPFL Season Kick-off Party, he said: 'I put full belief into what John and Tim and Gordon do as a supporter. I've been in the club so I know how hard it is and what they're trying to do. "They're trying to build the club, a new stadium, and a training ground. But, you know, I'm a supporter. I don't put any money in. "John and Tim put millions of pounds in and they have over the years. So they make the decision about what they feel is right for the football club. ‌ "And if they feel that's the right decision, then we have to make sure that everybody keeps backing it and supports them. "Hopefully the results can improve as the season goes on. But again, they have to get more players in. "They have to improve the players. We lost a couple of good players in the summer - young players that went to other clubs, which was difficult. ‌ "But it's all about recruitment. You get your recruitment good, then that will help you. "Steven now has to try and do that, do some business early and hopefully they'll get the team ready for the start of the season.'
