"Retaining Elon is more important than ever before," board members Robyn Denholm and Kathleen Wilson-Thompson wrote in a letter to shareholders Monday. "Today, Tesla is at a critical inflection point that has the potential to create continued extraordinary value for you, the shareholders."
The new compensation package consists of 96 million restricted shares, valued at approximately $29 billion based on current stock prices. This represents roughly one-third of Musk's controversial 2018 pay package, which remains tied up in Delaware courts after a judge struck it down twice, despite shareholder approval.

The Tesla board justified the enormous payout by pointing to escalating competition for artificial intelligence talent, with recent months seeing "multi-billion-dollar acquisitions of companies and nine-figure cash compensation packages for non-founder, individual AI engineers."
"Through Elon's unique vision and leadership, Tesla is transitioning from its role as a leader in the electric vehicle and renewable energy industries to grow towards becoming a leader in AI, robotics and related services," the board stated.
The package requires Musk to serve continuously in a senior leadership role at Tesla for two years and includes a five-year mandatory holding period. Importantly, if Delaware courts reinstate the 2018 package, this interim award will be forfeited to prevent any "double dip."
Tesla faces mounting challenges despite record CEO pay
The announcement comes as Tesla confronts significant headwinds, including a 25% stock decline this year and intensifying competition from Chinese rivals. The company reported quarterly profits plummeting from $1.39 billion to $409 million in its most recent quarter.
Critics question whether such massive compensation is justified given Tesla's current struggles. However, board members emphasized Musk's track record, noting the 2018 award "resulted in a $2.3 billion stock-based compensation charge to Tesla but brought about $735 billion of increased market capitalization."
The board acknowledged concerns about Musk's divided attention across multiple ventures, including xAI, SpaceX, and his role in the Trump administration, but expressed confidence the award will "incentivize Elon to remain at Tesla and focus his unmatched leadership abilities on further creating shareholder value."
Tesla plans to present a longer-term CEO compensation strategy at its November 6 annual shareholder meeting.

Border infrastructure has been a point of serious concern, leading to standoff and skirmishes. This comes at a time when India and China are in talks to de-escalate tensions along LAC. More talks are slated in the runup to the SCO summit later this month. The new company's mandates are construction, manufacturing of railway transportation equipment, real estate development and operations, besides developing tourist facilities. Just like the mega dam on the upper reaches of Brahmaputra (Yarlung Tsangpo), for which a state-owned enterprise China Yajiang Group was floated and where construction started last month, the Xinjiang Tibet Railway Co Ltd will be wholly owned by China State Railway Group Ltd. The company has been set up with registered capital of 95 billion yuan (nearly $13.2b) and one Ma Yinjun as its legal representative, in filings reported from China's National Enterprise Credit Information Publicity system. Plan in the works The railway plan has been in the works for nearly two decades. It was first mentioned in 2006-08 around the time the first rail line to Lhasa was operationalised. The link was to be part of a network connecting Lhasa to the Chinese mainland, Yunnan and Chengdu to the East and Xinjiang in the West. But the Xinjiang link has been on paper for a while largely due to the extensive feasibility studies needed for the project, which will traverse through very harsh terrain, sub-zero and permafrost conditions. In 2018, a section of the Xinjiang-Tibet Railway was included in the 2021-30 Railway Network Development Plan for Tibet Autonomous Region.'One of 45 major projects'In May 2022, a tender was awarded for the Hotan-Shigatse railway survey and design project by China State Railway Group. In April 2025, the Chinese transport ministry in a press conference identified the Xinjiang-Tibet railway line as one of the 45 major projects, where construction was to be started within the year. Bodakdev man loses 13.5cr in property fraud, wife files plaint
Ahmedabad: A 40-year-old resident of Bodakdev on Saturday lodged a complaint with Satellite police, accusing three men of defrauding her husband of Rs 13.52 crore. The alleged scam revolves around a fraudulent property investment scheme involving apartments and agricultural land. The complaint details that the husband, who runs a building material supply business for the past three years, was introduced to a property broker in June 2024. This broker allegedly then introduced the man to two others, who were partners in a real estate firm and reportedly developing residential projects in Ahmedabad. The trio allegedly convinced the man to invest in their upcoming project near Bopal with promises of lucrative returns. On July 23, 2024, the man agreed to buy five flats valued at a total of approximately Rs 8 crore. He paid Rs 5 crore through RTGS procured through a loan and an additional Rs 3 crore in cash, paid in instalments at the accused's office and residence. The accused provided a promissory note, assuring the delivery of property documents at a later date.
