Expressing satisfaction over the progress of various missions, the Union Minister said the revised cost of Bangalore Metro Phase-2 project will be considered once the proposal is approved by the state cabinet. "At present about 75 km of metro network is operational in Bengaluru and about 145 km of metro network is under construction. Recently, a few months back, the central government sanctioned 45 km of metro phase-3 network at a cost of Rs 15,600 crore," an official statement said.
According to the statement, the state government has submitted the proposal for Bangalore phase-3A, covering approximately 37 kms. The estimated cost is about Rs 28,400 crore. The cost estimate of phase-3 A network needs to be examined by the expert agency.
The Centre has already issued directions in this regard. "The project will be sanctioned by the central government, once reply is received from the government of Karnataka," he said.
Khattar further urged the state government to address the issue of legacy waste management and promote reuse of water and sustainability. He also emphasised allowing higher FAR (
Floor Area Ratio
) along mass transit corridors, which will reshape cities, reduce traffic congestion and improve use of public transport.

"During the discussion on fund requirement of the State, over and above the approved schemes of the Government of India, Union Minister encouraged the state to take up the reforms to claim the 50 years interest-free loan under the 'Scheme for Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SSASCI) 2025-26'," the statement added.

Earlier this year, the PM inaugurated the 6.5-km long Z-Morh tunnel on Srinagar-Leh highway in Gagangir area of Ganderbal district in central Kashmir for round-the-year connectivity to Sonamarg and further to Ladakh. In October 2024, seven workers, including a doctor, who worked at the construction site of Z-Morh, were killed. The Zojila tunnel, also in Sonamarg, that would provide round the year connectivity to Ladakh, is also in the final phase of construction. At Katra, he will flag off the Vande Bharat train from Katra to north Kashmir's Baramulla and another from Baramulla to Katra, signalling the completion of the project to link Kashmir by railway network. He is likely to address a public rally as well. The train operates along the 272 km long Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL), with over two dozen tunnels and 49 small and big bridges in the Katra-Banihal section. The train will provide all-weather connectivity to Kashmir as the only highway connecting Jammu with Kashmir was acutely affected by harsh weather conditions, landslides, snow and rainfall in winter months. The travel time between Delhi and Srinagar will be around 13 hours, but for now the passengers have to change trains at Katra station and go through fresh security checks. Apple could increase the prices of its upcoming iPhone 17 series, according to a new report by Counterpoint Research. Life Insurance Corp appoints Ramakrishnan Chander as new CIO
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) announced that its current executive director, Ramakrishnan Chander, has assumed charge as the company's new chief investment officer (CIO), effective immediately. Chander will serve as CIO until his superannuation, which is scheduled for 30 September 2027. With this appointment, he becomes one of LIC's key managerial personnel. Chander joined LIC in 1990 as an assistant administrative officer after completing his post graduation diploma in financial management. He is also a fellow of the Insurance Institute of India. According to LIC, Chander has an experience of working as senior divisional manager of Nagpur and Hyderabad divisions. He has also worked as regional manager (marketing), South Zone and as regional manager (pension & group schemes), South Central Zone. Previously, Chander led LIC's strategic business unit international operations as executive director. He currently heads investment front office of the company. LIC has been providing life insurance in India for more than 65 years and is the largest life insurer in the country. The company reported 38.15% jump in standalone net profit to Rs 19,012.79 crore while total income fell 3.53% to Rs 243,386.15 crore in Q4 March 2025 over Q4 March 2024. The scrip rose 0.13% to Rs 957.75 on the BSE.
