Sébastien Vaniček's ‘Evil Dead Burn' Sequel Sets July 2026 Release
Evil Dead fans won't have to wait much longer for their next trip into the woods… or in this case, somewhere even more hellish. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček and co-written with Florent Bernard, the sequel Evil Dead Burn will star Souheila Yacoub, bringing a new lead to a series known for putting its heroes through relentless torment (per Variety).
Yacoub, who portrayed Fremen warrior Shishakli in Denis Villeneuve's Dune sequel, has carved a place for herself in genre cinema with a blend of grit and presence. With her character not expected to return in Dune: Messiah , Evil Dead Burn offers a new showcase for her talents. Her previous credits include Climax , Savages , and the horror comedy The Balconettes . Souheila Yacoub
Vaniček, best known for directing the 2023 French horror film Infested , was first linked to the Evil Dead franchise in early 2024. Long before the official announcement, he hinted that his film would be titled Evil Dead Burn . That cryptic tease has now been confirmed, adding a fiery edge to a franchise better known for blood than flame. Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi will return to produce. Bruce Campbell, Romel Adam, Jose Canas, and Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin are also attached as executive producers.
While Evil Dead has never been a blockbuster juggernaut, it has enjoyed a rare kind of longevity. Beginning with Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic, the franchise has grown to include sequels, a reboot, a spin-off TV show, and an army of fans who know their Necronomicon lore by heart. Most entries were modest box office performers until Evil Dead Rise defied expectations in 2023 with a US$147 million global haul. That film, a standalone chapter with no Ash Williams in sight, proved there's still plenty of life (and death) in this franchise.
Riding the momentum of Evil Dead Rise , Warner Bros. and New Line have doubled down. Evil Dead Burn is just one of multiple projects in development. Another instalment, helmed by The Last Stop in Yuma County director Francis Galluppi, is also moving forward, though details remain tightly guarded. For now, Evil Dead Burn takes center stage. Whether it ends up in a cabin, a city, or someplace entirely new, one thing's certain: Deadites are coming back, and they're not coming quietly.
Evil Dead Burn opens in cinemas on 24 July 2026.

‘Adolescence' Dethrones 'Stranger Things 4' As Netflix's Second Most-Watched English-Language Series
One-take wonder Adolescence is one step closer to becoming a Netflix chart-topper. The British limited series has racked up a total of 141.2 million views since its debut 80 days ago on 14 March, surpassing its previous fourth-place result of 114 million views to outpace Stranger Things 4 as the second most-watched English-language TV show ever on the streamer. Only Wednesday , starring Jenna Ortega ( You, 2022's Scream ), stands in its way with 252.1 million views in its first 91 days of debut. Still, the numbers fall shy of the current No.1 across both English and non-English language titles, with Squid Game Season 1 scoring 265.2 million views. Season 2, now at 192 million views and counting, is sandwiched between Wednesday and Adolescence . Led by first-time actor Owen Cooper, the latter centres on a 13-year-old named Jamie Miller who is arrested after the murder of a girl in his school. It became known for shooting each of its four episodes in one continuous take, and also stars Stephen Graham ( Gangs of New York , Peaky Blinders ), Ashley Walters ( Top Boy , Doctor Who ), and Erin Doherty ( The Crown , Chloe ) as Jamie's father Eddie, detective inspector Luke Bascombe, and psychologist Briony Ariston, respectively. While hailed as a limited series, the crime drama may land a second season, with Netflix and Brad Pitt's production company, Plan B Entertainment, in early talks about continuing Jamie's story. It's hardly the only name on the list getting a (potential) sequel — as announced during the recent Netflix Tudum event, Stranger Things Season 5 will end things in three parts, scheduled for 26 November, Christmas Day, and New Year's Eve. As for Wednesday , Season 2 is arriving in two parts: first on 6 August, then on 3 September, after Squid Game Season 3 debuts on 27 June. 'The Witcher 4' PS5 Tech Demo Is Stunning But CD Projekt Says 'It Doesn't Fully Represent The Final Game'
CD Projekt and Epic Games have unveiled a stunning tech demo of the long-awaited RPG sequel The Witcher 4 running on Unreal Engine 5, showcasing a gorgeous open world with ray tracing running on a base PS5 at 60fps. The catch? It's not actually gameplay footage. Revealed during Epic's State of Unreal 2025 event, the tech demo follows the game's protagonist Ciri as she explores the brand new region of Kovir while in the process of a monster contract. The demo showcases the latest open-world features of Unreal Engine 5.6, including the Fast Geometry Streaming Plugin to enhance load times, and its character rendering innovations, able to generate 300 individually animated NPCs shown off towards the tail end of the segment. 'As Ciri explores the bustling market of Valdrest, we see how [Unreal Engine] 5.6 handles busy scenes full of high-fidelity characters and visual effects like ML Deformer. The tech demo also showcases Nanite Foliage — which provides a fast and memory-efficient way to achieve gorgeous foliage density and fidelity, slated for release in UE 5.7,' read the official blurb from Epic. As breathtaking as the tech demo might have been, CD Projekt was quick to issue a statement insisting that it was not an official gameplay showcase, and was rather a 'standalone' tech demo built to showcase Unreal Engine 5's features. '[The tech demo] reflects the direction we're taking with The Witcher 4 — but it doesn't fully represent the final game.' CD Projekt explained, 'Production is still underway, and we have a great deal of work ahead. That said, our goal is ambitious: to create one of the most visually advanced role-playing games to date.' CD Projekt also explained why it chose to feature the tech demo on a base PS5 over a high-end gaming PC, saying that 'optimising for consoles early helps [to] future-proof performance across all platforms', and that 'consoles come with tighter constraints, and meeting them pushes [the studio] to make smarter, more efficient tech choices — the kind that benefit every version of the game'. With the tech demo not showcasing actual gameplay footage, it further emphasises how far The Witcher 4 is from launch. And with CD Project previously indicating that the game won't be out until 2027 at the earliest, the suggestion is that the game will probably run on next-generation PlayStation and Xbox consoles alongside the PS5 and Xbox Series X, although its ability to run on the weaker Xbox Series S still remains a mystery. 'Dungeons & Dragons' Single-Player Game In The Works From 'Star Wars Jedi' Veteran
Giant Skull, a new game studio founded by Star Wars Jedi franchise and God of War 3 director Stig Asmussen, is hard at work on an upcoming single-player Dungeons & Dragons action adventure. The currently untitled project was announced by Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast, and follows previous reports that Giant Skull was making a new AAA single-player game built in Unreal Engine 5. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (2023) 'Our talented and experienced team at Giant Skull is built on creativity and curiosity,' Asmussen said in a statement. 'Our goal is to craft a rich new Dungeons & Dragons universe filled with immersive storytelling, heroic combat and exhilarating traversal that players will fully embrace.' Formed in 2024 after Asmussen left Electronic Arts and Respawn Entertainment a year prior, Giant Skull's leadership team also consists of lead producer Lauren McLemore ( Fortnite, League of Legends ), art director Patrick Murphy ( Valorant, Ratchet & Clank ), CTO Jon Carr ( Star Wars Jedi: Survivor ), design director Jeff Magers ( Star Wars Jedi franchise, Medal of Honor: Airborne ), animation director Brian Campbell ( Fortnite ) and COO/CFO Anthony Scott. Previous reports also indicated that the team consists of Rockstar alumni as well. Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (2019) Giant Skull's latest project is set to add another notch to publisher Wizards of the Coast's belt, joining a separate D&D action adventure game by Invoke Studios, the team behind 2021's Dungeons & Dragons: Dark Alliance , alongside the sci-fi RPG Exodus , which will be helmed by Archetype Entertainment, a team made from former Mass Effect veterans. With Asmussen's impressive track record consisting of highly successful games like the Star Wars Jedi franchise, God of War II and its sequel God of War III , hopes are high that Giant Skull would be able to deliver an immersive story-focused adventure set in the captivating world of Dungeons & Dragons . The project is still in its infancy, although it was confirmed to be a multi-platform title and will launch on PC and consoles 'at a later date'.
