Movie Tea: 'Evil Dead Burn' Enters Production; 'Barbarian' Director To Lead New 'Resident Evil' Movie

Zombies are once again coming back from the dead to take over movie theatres starting next year! From 'Resident Evil' receiving its redemption arc, to 'Evil Dead' receiving a new director – here's the latest and juiciest news on upcoming movies that you can sink your teeth into! Sébastien Vaniček Carries On The Torch For New 'Evil Dead' Movie It's common sense at this point that when you see a cursed book — you don't open it. Unfortunately, some people just can't help but let their curiosity get the better of them. Luckily for us, that means we get to enjoy a new movie, courtesy of Sam Raimi and his upcoming 'Evil Dead' entry. That's right, the 'Evil Dead' franchise is once again rising from the grave to wreak havoc on the living, this time with an entry titled 'Evil Dead Burn'. The news originated from a simple Instagram post – but not from Raimi. Rather, this post came from the French filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček. Known for his work in 'Infested' (2023) and 'Crocs' (2018), the relatively green filmmaker is appointed as this film's director in what appears to be a Herculean task. Despite this, you can still feel the energy from this director courtesy of his post, where he shares a photo of a movie clapper with the movie's title and his name as its director, as well as a sneak peek of who the cameraman is. In the post above, we can see one Philip Lozano, a veteran cinematographer known for his work on 'District B13' (2004) and 'Now You See Me' (2013), as the camera operator for the upcoming movie. Outside of the official announcement that shooting is now underway, we don't know anything about 'Evil Dead Burn,' not even if this entry will continue the story of 'Evil Dead Rise' (2023) or any of the previous entries, for that matter. It is being produced by Raimi, Bruce Campbell, and Lee Cronin, which might hint that it might be a separate entry, especially with Cronin staying in the producer's chair. However, we aren't completely in the dark about 'Evil Dead Burn.' We know Vaniček wrote the screenplay for the movie, alongside Florent Bernard. Furthermore, it will also include recognisable actors such as Hunter Doohan, Souheila Yacoub, Luciane Buchanan, and Tandi Wright. We can expect 'Evil Dead Burn' to hit cinemas on 24th July, 2026. Zach Cregger To Make 'Resident Evil' Movie More Like The Games Yes, we've all heard it before: some video games were never meant to be turned into movies. You can try, but you can only blame yourself when you set the expectations so high and the movie fails to meet them. No franchise was more of a victim of this than the hit zombie game 'Resident Evil.' However, much like 'The Super Mario Bros. Movie' or 'Sonic the Hedgehog', all it needed was a fresh new visionary who's willing to give the IP a try. And who is more worthy of this challenge than horror genre innovator and 'Barbarian' director Zach Cregger? Speaking with Cregger discussed his history with the franchise and how it affected his upcoming take. The director himself is a notable fan of the franchise, boasting that he has 'played all of the games', specifically the most popular one, 'Resident Evil 4'. He is a dedicated enjoyer of Capcom's zombie shooter and would like to take a crack at hopefully succeeding where others have failed. In the interview, he notably stated that 'I just want to tell a story that feels like it's honouring the experience you get when you play the games.' Though Cregger has never seen a single adaptation of his beloved franchise, he seems to be extremely confident in the project, saying that 'I think the movie is going to rip.' Then again, knowing how the movies went, he probably decided to save himself and the adapted franchise altogether by making a newer entry. Naturally, as it is still in its early stages, we don't know what game entry the movie will adapt or if it will be an entirely new and original story made for the big screen. Furthermore, Cregger has stressed that he will be loose when it comes to the Resident Evil lore, but will still do his best to create an authentic experience. has gone on to add that the film might focus more on the 'outskirts of Racoon City,' suggesting that the movie will be either focusing on 'Resident Evil 2' or 'Resident Evil 3.' What we know for sure is that the adaptation is slated for an 18th September, 2026, release window. Sources: Empire,

EVIL DEAD BURN Cast Comes Together with Hunter Doohan, Luciane Buchanan, and Tandi Wright — GeekTyrant

Things are heating up for the next installment in the Evil Dead universe. The cast of Evil Dead Burn is coming together, and it's already looking promising. According to Deadline, Hunter Doohan, best known for playing Tyler in Netflix's Wednesday , has signed on to star. He's joined by Luciane Buchanan ( The Night Agent ) and Tandi Wright ( Pearl ), with all three actors set to bring some fresh blood to the Sam Raimi-produced horror project. They'll join previously announced cast member Souheila Yacoub in the film, which is being directed by Infested filmmaker Sébastien Vaniček. He co-wrote the script with Florent Bernard, continuing the collaborative horror streak they started with their 2023 creature feature. We don't know anything about the story, but Vaniček previously said: 'I told the studio that I wanted to make a nasty film, a film that hurts, from which you come away tested. I'm going to put all the horror I have inside, it will be cathartic, and if I haven't ruined my career and I can continue to make films behind it, I will move on to something other than horror!' He is looking to create a film that hits with force and sticks with audiences. He added: 'I want people to feel physically drained when they leave the theater, like they've been through an emotional and intense journey. The ambition remains the same as with Infested: to create a visceral, sensory experience that punches the audience in the gut.' As a fan, that's exactly what I want to hear when it comes to the bone-snapping, soul-swallowing, blood-drenched legacy. Evil Dead Burn will follow the success of Evil Dead Rise , directed by Lee Cronin, which revived the series in 2023 with a grittier, blood-soaked twist. And with another untitled Evil Dead film also on the way from Francis Galluppi, so the Deadites aren't done with us yet! Since Sam Raimi first unleashed the Necronomicon in 1981, The Evil Dead has evolved from a scrappy cabin-in-the-woods shocker into a multi-generational horror juggernaut. With this new lineup and a director hungry to leave a mark (or maybe a scar), Evil Dead Burn is probably going to be a crazy-ass horror movie.

EVIL DEAD BURN Director Sébastien Vaniček Says 'I Want People to Feel Physically Drained When They Leave the Theater' — GeekTyrant

Director Sébastien Vaniček is taking the leap from breakout genre newcomer to helming one of horror's most iconic franchises with Evil Dead Burn . The filmmaker, who was praised for his debut film Infested ( Vermines ), is now heading to New Zealand to shoot the next chapter in the Evil Dead saga, with Dune: Part Two star Souheila Yacoub leading the charge. Produced by franchise mainstays Rob Tapert, Sam Raimi, and Bruce Campbell, and distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and Sony, Evil Dead Burn marks one of two sequels in development following the box office success of Evil Dead Rise . In a recent conversation with Variety, Vaniček shared his excitement about diving into the blood-soaked world Raimi created, and why Yacoub was his first choice to carry this chapter. 'I've long admired Souheila's work in France, particularly in theater. She brings a rare physicality and emotional intensity to her performances – exactly the kind of raw, visceral presence I was looking for in Evil Dead Burn.' Yacoub is a former elite gymnast, once part of Switzerland's national team, and when it comes to intense action and emotionally charged performances, she's already proven herself in Climax , No Man's Land , and most recently, Planet B . According to Vaniček, 'we've spent a lot of time together discussing the story and the emotional depth I wanted to bring to the characters.' The role, he says, will push her both physically and psychologically. But Evil Dead Burn isn't just about the blood and mayhem. Vaniček views the franchise as a creative sandbox, one that welcomes big crazy swings and filmmaker-driven ideas. 'Evil Dead is like a creative playground, a bold laboratory for filmmakers eager to explore something raw, brutal, and deeply transgressive.' He is looking to create a film that hits with force and sticks with audiences long after the credits roll. 'I want people to feel physically drained when they leave the theater, like they've been through an emotional and intense journey. The ambition remains the same as with Infested : to create a visceral, sensory experience that punches the audience in the gut.' Vaniček isn't just aiming to satisfy longtime fans of the franchise as he wants to pull in fresh blood as well: 'I quickly expressed my ambition to bring something fresh and meaningful to this universe, to offer the franchise to an audience who isn't familiar with Evil Dead and is in search of unique, immersive, and sensory experiences.' He's hoping to bring a distinct flavor to the franchise: 'depth and nuance, something that feels uniquely ours, but that anyone can connect with.' Evil Dead Burn is set to be released on July 24, 2026.

Sébastien Vaniček's ‘Evil Dead Burn' Sequel Sets July 2026 Release

Evil Dead fans won't have to wait much longer for their next trip into the woods… or in this case, somewhere even more hellish. Directed by Sébastien Vaniček and co-written with Florent Bernard, the sequel Evil Dead Burn will star Souheila Yacoub, bringing a new lead to a series known for putting its heroes through relentless torment (per Variety). Yacoub, who portrayed Fremen warrior Shishakli in Denis Villeneuve's Dune sequel, has carved a place for herself in genre cinema with a blend of grit and presence. With her character not expected to return in Dune: Messiah , Evil Dead Burn offers a new showcase for her talents. Her previous credits include Climax , Savages , and the horror comedy The Balconettes . Souheila Yacoub Vaniček, best known for directing the 2023 French horror film Infested , was first linked to the Evil Dead franchise in early 2024. Long before the official announcement, he hinted that his film would be titled Evil Dead Burn . That cryptic tease has now been confirmed, adding a fiery edge to a franchise better known for blood than flame. Rob Tapert and Sam Raimi will return to produce. Bruce Campbell, Romel Adam, Jose Canas, and Evil Dead Rise director Lee Cronin are also attached as executive producers. While Evil Dead has never been a blockbuster juggernaut, it has enjoyed a rare kind of longevity. Beginning with Sam Raimi's 1981 cult classic, the franchise has grown to include sequels, a reboot, a spin-off TV show, and an army of fans who know their Necronomicon lore by heart. Most entries were modest box office performers until Evil Dead Rise defied expectations in 2023 with a US$147 million global haul. That film, a standalone chapter with no Ash Williams in sight, proved there's still plenty of life (and death) in this franchise. Riding the momentum of Evil Dead Rise , Warner Bros. and New Line have doubled down. Evil Dead Burn is just one of multiple projects in development. Another instalment, helmed by The Last Stop in Yuma County director Francis Galluppi, is also moving forward, though details remain tightly guarded. For now, Evil Dead Burn takes center stage. Whether it ends up in a cabin, a city, or someplace entirely new, one thing's certain: Deadites are coming back, and they're not coming quietly. Evil Dead Burn opens in cinemas on 24 July 2026. Natalie is a big fan of anything related to movies, TV shows, and anime — you name it. When she's not reading or being a dedicated cinephile, she's probably playing gacha and tabletop games, or daydreaming of Caleb from Love and Deepspace .
