Britain's Got Talent viewers 'confused' as judge Simon Cowell gets Golden Buzzer

Yahoo12-04-2025
Britain's Got Talent (BGT) returned to our screens tonight (April 12) and judge Simon Cowell received the Golden Buzzer.
Judges Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli sat through a variety of auditions with some impressing them more than others.
As always, Ant and Dec were waiting in the wings of the stage as members of the public showed off their varying talents. The 2025 series has seen YouTuber and singer KSI step in to judge when Tonioli has been absent.
Towards the end of the show, Cowell was brought up on stage by an act called The Hacker.
Wearing a mask, the man's identity wasn't revealed but he immediately swapped places with Simon and did his audition from Simon's chair with his feet up on the desk.
Cowell was on stage and appeared to be performing a magician act, instead of judging like he usually would.
In the end, The Hacker gave judges no chance to reveal whether they voted yes or no and instead pressed the Golden Buzzer, making gold confetti fall all over the stage and over Cowell.
This left fans 'confused' as acts on Britain's Got Talent always get told whether they're through to the next round or not. A Golden Buzzer progresses them through to the live shows.
Viewers took to X to say: 'Simon's got the Golden Buzzer omg #TheHacker #BGT #BritainsGotTalent', adding four laughing and crying emojis.
This person said: 'SIMON'S GOT THE GOLDEN BUZZER!!!!!!! BUT WHO IS THE HACKER???!!!! #BGT #BritainsGotTalent'.
A third said: '#BGT #BritainsGotTalent So is hacker man through or not, I'm very confused'.
This person said: 'No, that golden buzzer doesn't count. (For anyone wondering) #bgt'.

Tonight's episode started unusually with an act doing their audition outside on the red carpet where the judges and hosts arrived at the arena.
Pop Voices Choir surprised the judges as nearly 300 of them began singing. The act got four yeses from the judges and an extra two yeses from Ant and Dec, which Cowell said had never happened before.
The likes of Norwegian dance group Jump Crew and schoolboy comedian Jacob Sayer performed in tonight's episode.
The talent show celebrates its 18th year on our screens this year and if you've missed any recent episodes, you can catch up on ITVX.

Carly Simon Charts Her First Hit On One List With A Decades-Old Tune

Carly Simon's 'Coming Around Again' hits No. 20 on both the U.K.'s Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts, a new high for the decades-old track. Singer-songwriter Carly Simon photographed in June 1971. (Photo by) Getty Images Carly Simon is regarded as one of the most celebrated female voices in pop music history, both for her pioneering work as a songwriter and for her slew of hit singles. While Simon hasn't released a new album in more than 15 years, she remains a legend and is highly regarded, especially among fellow singer-songwriters. Thanks to an exciting recent re-release of one of her most popular tunes, Simon is back on the charts in the United Kingdom — not with something brand new, but rather with a decades-old cut that has found a second life. Simon's 'Coming Around Again' reappears on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads charts this week. On the U.K.-based rankings, the pop classic returns at No. 20, which now marks its all-time high point on the two lists, which are built entirely around purchases. Alanis Morissette recently covered 'Coming Around Again' for a movie titled It's My Mother's Wedding. Simon isn't only credited as the original songwriter, but also as a vocalist, as she contributed backing tracks to the cut. Simon wrote the track for the Meryl Streep/Jack Nicholson film Heartburn, which arrived in 1986, and Morissette interestingly chose to rework the tune for another movie. Despite the fact that 'Coming Around Again' was originally released in the '80s, it didn't become a sales hit in the U.K. until 2021. In February of that year, the tune launched on both the Official Singles Sales and Official Singles Downloads lists, but only in the lower reaches of the rosters, and it disappeared after just one stay. More than four years later, it's back — and finally a top 20 hit. Simon scores her first-ever hit on the Official Singles Downloads chart, and she doubles her career sum on the Official Singles Sales list. Shortly after 'Coming Around Again' launched on the general sales roster, 'Why' landed at No. 91, and then it slipped away. Many of Simon's most famous tracks performed well on the Official Singles Chart, the main ranking of the most consumed songs, which predates any specific sales lists by many years. On that tally, she collected four top 10s, including 'Coming Around Again,' which peaked at No. 10 during its initial run.

Rescue Dog Meets Rescue Horse for First Time, Takes Unexpected Turn

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. You might expect a dog and a horse meeting for the first time to involve a cautious stare, a curious sniff, or maybe a wagging tail. But when a 4-year-old rescue dog named Petal was introduced to Simon, a 3-year-old horse, things took an unexpected turn. Instead of a gentle greeting, Simon leaned in and gave Petal's head a nibble. Fortunately, the encounter was all in good fun and no animals were harmed in the making of the TikTok clip shared to @boochaces. So far, the August 15 video has already amassed over 1.1 million views and more than 191,700 likes. Newsweek spoke to Caitlin Cimini, founder of the New Jersey-based sanctuary Rancho Relaxo, who was holding Petal during the viral moment. From left: Simon the horse nudges Petal the dog's head; and Moose the equine does the same thing. From left: Simon the horse nudges Petal the dog's head; and Moose the equine does the same thing. TikTok/@boochaces "Petal is so sweet, quiet and gentle," she said. "She is used to the chaos of a hoarding situation." Petal's story is one of resilience. The Animal Humane Society estimates that up to 250,000 animals per year are victims of hoarding. Newsweek spoke to Justine Wilkinson, an environmental health officer at Northumbria University in England, who studies the psychological roots of animal hoarding. Wilkinson said: "People who hoard animals often report living in a chaotic domestic environment during childhood; childhood problems with caregivers, e.g., unstable, neglectful, abusive, absent, or inconsistent; and stressful life events in child and adulthood. "They also report relying on animals during childhood, suggesting provision as alternative attachment figures and providing security without fear of rejection." The clip features not just Simon, but also Moose—the first horse who approaches Petal. The 10-year-old black horse goes in for what sanctuary owner Cimini described as an "abrasive" sniff, while Simon follows with his now-infamous nibble. "He is still so curious as he is young," Cimini said. Both horses were rescued from slaughter and have since thrived at Rancho Relaxo. "Simon is a very sociable horse," Cimini said. "He was rescued from slaughter two years ago, and you would never know he came from facing that terrible fate. He is a happy, affectionate horse. "Moose was originally rescued from slaughter by a rescue that ended up failing the animals under their care—which is when we stepped in. So, he was saved twice," Cimini added. TikTok Reacts As expected, TikTok users had plenty to say about the moment that is described as an "unforgettable experience," according to the on-screen text. "Do you wanna meet a horse for the first time? Dog: *entire life flashes past it*" joked one commenter, racking up more than 12,000 likes. Another wrote: "Simon asking is this a sweet treat." A third posted: "That poor dog wondering if life on streets is better."

Netflix axe Cheat: Unfinished Business

Cheat: Unfinished Business has been axed. The dating programme - which saw eight former couples who had split due to infidelity attempt to work out their differences at a luxury retreat in Mallorca - will not be returning for a second series, despite being one of Netflix's most streamed shows. While the news will come as a disappointment to Amanda Holden - who fronted the show along with dating expert Paul C. Brunson - the Britain's Got Talent judge is said to have various other projects in the pipeline with the streaming service. A source told The Sun on Sunday newspaper: "Despite Cheat being popular with audiences Netflix has decided to pursue new show formats. "Bosses love Amanda and are in talks with her on three different show ideas, so it's likely fans will see a lot more of her on the platform in the future." And the 54-year-old star is very busy with other projects. The insider added: "Amanda is still very much one of the hardest working women in showbiz and is booked and busy for the foreseeable future. "On top of hosting the UK's biggest radio show Heart Breakfast every weekday, it recently overtook Radio 2, BGT auditions commence in October. "Plus, Amanda is currently filming Series 4 of Alan and Amanda in Greece while her brand-new prime-time quiz show ,The Inner Circle, launches on BBC1 in October." A Netflix spokesman confirmed the show had been axed. They said: "Cheat: Unfinished Business won't be returning." Amanda - who has been married to her second husband Chris Hughes since 2008 and has daughters Lexi, 19, and Hollie, 13, with him - previously admitted she couldn't help but get emotionally attached to those involved in the series. She told OK! magazine: "I did get emotionally involved, as you would expect. In the early days of filming, I was trying my best to not show too much, because when you've read the research on the couples that are taking part and then you see the body language and the tears and them trying to calm down. "All the vulnerabilities that humans go through when something like this happens... it's hard not to be invested in that yourself. I was trying so hard not to give anything away, and then I just sort of let that go because it was a bit impossible for me."
