Karun Nair Named Mysore Warriors Skipper, Set To Miss Duleep Trophy Due To Fracture

India.com2 days ago
In a significant development ahead of the Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 2025, experienced batter Karun Nair has been appointed captain of the Mysore Warriors. The right-hander, who has been a key figure for the franchise in past seasons, will continue to lead the side in the upcoming edition of Karnataka's premier T20 league.
Injury Concerns
However, Nair's participation will be limited at the start of the tournament as he is recovering from a finger fracture sustained during the recent Test series against England. The injury has not only sidelined him for the early stages of the Maharaja Trophy but has also ruled him out of the prestigious Duleep Trophy, where he was expected to represent Central Zone.
The Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20, now in its fourth edition, is known for showcasing Karnataka's top cricketing talent alongside established international names. Nair's leadership will be pivotal for the Mysore Warriors, who will be looking to improve on their past performances and contend for the title. Despite his early absence, the team management has expressed confidence in his return during the later stages of the competition.
Meanwhile, the Central Zone will have to do without Nair's experience in the upcoming Duleep Trophy, a multi-zone domestic tournament that has historically been a platform for national selection. His absence is seen as a blow for the side, which will rely on other senior batters to step up in his place.
Opportunity For A Comeback
Karun Nair, best known for his triple century against England in 2016, has had a stop-start run in recent years due to form and injuries. This latest setback adds to his challenges, but the 33-year-old remains focused on making a strong comeback once fully fit. The Maharaja Trophy begins from 11 August, with the Mysore Warriors hoping their skipper can join the action in time for the knockout stages.
Venue Shift
In the meantime, the Maharaja Trophy was shifted to Srikantadatta Narasimha Raja Wadeyar Ground, Mysore. M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru wasn't given the green light to host the tournament after a stampede on June 5 during RCB's IPL trophy parade.

Bengaluru axed from hosting Women's ODI World Cup matches after Chinnaswamy stampede; Kerala likely to be new venue

The Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru has been axed from Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 radar with the matches likely to move to Kerala's Thiruvananthapuram. The development comes after a stampede at the Chinnaswamy stadium during Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) victory parade that killed 11 people dead and left 71 injured on June 4. RCB had won their maiden IPL title in 18 years on June 3. According to a Cricbuzz report, the decision to scrape Bengaluru off Women's World Cup 2025 fixture list came on Monday night following the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) failure to seek permission for the games, despite the BCCI granting a two-day extension. The formal announcement is yet to be made. Bengaluru was allotted four matches at the Women's World Cup 2025, including the India vs Sri Lanka opening encounter on September 30 and the second semifinals on October 30. India were also scheduled to play Bangladesh on October 26 while the remaining one game on October 3 involved England and South Africa. Besides Bengaluru; Guwahati, Visakhapatnam, Indore (in India) and Colombo are the other venues. The India vs Pakistan clash is set to be played on October 5 in Colombo. The MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai could have an option but with the renovation works going on, the ground won't be available till December 2025, Tamil Nadu Cricket Association told BCCI, based on the report.

Star Wicket-Keeper And Young Batter Join Big Indian Names At BCCI's CoE: Report

Curated By : Cricketnext Staff Last Updated: August 12, 2025, 19:39 IST BCCI Centre of Excellence (PTI) India's wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and all-rounder Riyan Parag have reported to the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru for their routine fitness assessments, according to a report in TOI. Both players are part of the East Zone squad for the upcoming Duleep Trophy, with Kishan set to captain the side. Kishan, who has represented India in two Tests, 27 ODIs, and 32 T20Is, recently suffered an ankle injury after reportedly falling off a scooter. This injury previously led the national selectors to call up N Jagadeesan as a replacement for the injured Rishabh Pant. Parag, who has played one ODI but is yet to make his T20I debut, captained the Rajasthan Royals in several matches during IPL 2025 when regular skipper Sanju Samson was sidelined. Which Indian Cricketers Are Currently At BCCI's CoE? The CoE is currently hosting several high-profile names for routine checks. Star all-rounder Hardik Pandya and T20I opener Abhishek Sharma are already undergoing assessments, while middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer visited recently. India's T20 captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is also at the facility, having resumed batting in the nets following sports hernia surgery. The upcoming months present a packed schedule for India's white-ball team, beginning with the T20-format Asia Cup. The calendar features a home series against Australia in October (three ODIs, five T20Is), South Africa in November-December (three ODIs, five T20Is), and New Zealand in January (three ODIs, five T20Is), culminating in the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in February-March. As per reports, the Ajit Agarkar-led selection panel is expected to announce the Asia Cup squad on August 19 or 20, once the CoE's Sports Science team submits the medical reports of all players. So it will certainly be a tough call but Shubman in current form (although in Tests) can't be ignored. He had a good IPL also. Problem for selectors is, there are too many performers at the top of the order," a BCCI source privy to developments had earlier told PTI on Monday.
