"Obviously Part Of The Game": Shubman Gill Slammed By England Coach In Press Conference
'It's good. always exciting to see both sides animated towards the end. Not sure what they were complaining about when Gill was lying down getting a massage in the middle of the day yesterday. It's obviously part of the game. Near the end of the day, it's an exciting way to finish the day.
Asked about Crawley in jest, Southee gave a tongue-in-cheek reply.
'Yeah, he (Crawley) will be assessed overnight. Hope he'll be alright to carry on tomorrow."
Rahul said Crawley's tactic was understandable considering he is an opener himself.
'What happened at the end is just part of the game now. I understand from an opening batter's point of view. I know exactly what was going on, and everyone knows exactly what was going on. But an opening batter will understand completely what happened in the last five minutes,' he said.
Gill too was fired up and his raw emotions reflected on the audio from the stump mic.
'I have seen him fired up but obviously we wanted to bowl two overs. There were six minutes left. Obviously, two overs is a no-brainer that any team will bowl two overs with six minutes to go.
'It's a bit of theatrics at the end. We were all pumped up either way because we know how difficult it is for a batter to come in to bat for two overs when you have been in the field all day. We were hoping we could get a wicket there and a wicket at the end of the day's play would have been perfect for us,' added Rahul.

Sable to recover in 1-2 weeks after suffering minor injury during Monaco DL, says coach Amrish Kumar
Seasoned Indian steeplechaser Avinash Sable sustained a minor injury due to a nasty fall during the Monaco Diamond League two days back, but he will be all right in quick time, his long-time coach Amrish Kumar said on Sunday. Asian Games champion and national record holder Sable failed to finish the men's 3000m steeplechase event on Friday as he fell during the water jump early in the race. He was seen clutching his lower thigh area just at the back of the knee as he left the race. 'Sable has suffered a minor injury around the knee. He will take rest and he should be all right in one or two weeks at the maximum. It is not much to worry about,' Amrish, who is with the Army Sports Institute in Pune, told PTI. 'He (Sable) was trying to protect the runner ahead of him and who just jumped over the water barrier. While doing that, he himself fell, this kind of things happen in a race,' he added. The athlete ahead of him lost balance and went down, causing Sable to stumble as well. It was Amrish who spotted Sable after he joined the Indian Army in 2012. Amrish made Sable shift to steeplechase from cross country run in 2017 and nurtured him into a top athlete.. Sable, whose national record stands at 8 minutes 09.91 seconds, finished 13th in the Xiamen DL on April 16, was eighth in Keqiao — also in China — before a DNF in Monaco on Friday. The last DL meeting which has men's 3000m steeplechase in the roster is in Brussels on August 22. On Friday, the sports ministry has approved Sable's training in Colorado Springs, USA, from July 15 to September 3 to prepare for the World Championships (September 13-21) in Tokyo, for which he has already qualified.

'He's Done For This Series': Ben Stokes Sledges Shubman Gill
In a video going viral on the internet, England's Test captain Ben Stokes can be seen sledging India's Test captain Shubman Gill after he came out to bat in the second innings. The third Test of the ongoing five-match series between India and England is all set for a box-office finish on Monday (July 14) after England dismissed four India batters for 58 runs in the 17.4 overs bowled on Sunday evening. India bowled England out for 192 runs in the second innings on Sunday, but in reply to the 193-run target set by the Ben Stokes-led side, lost four batters as well, which includes the prized wicket of India captain Shubman Gill. Gill, who scored a total of 430 runs in the second Test played at Edgbaston last week, could only manage to score six runs from nine balls in the second innings of the Lord's Test. He was sent back to the pavilion by Brydon Carse on the last ball of the 15th over. The English seamer trapped him in front of the wickets, and despite Gill taking DRS, he failed to survive. Before Gill was sent back to the pavilion by Carse, England Test captain Shubman Gill sledged him by saying, '600 runs, and he is done for this series. 600 runs is enough for this fella." The clip of Stokes' mind game to distract Gill was shared by Star Sports on X, and within no time it went viral on the internet. He kicked off the series with scores of 147 and 8 in the series opener played at Headingley in Leeds from June 20 to 24 and hammered 269 and 161 runs in the second Test played at Edgbaston from July 2 to 6. Gill is the fourth Indian batter after Rahul Dravid (602 in 2002), Virat Kohli (655 in 2016), and Yashasvi Jaiswal (712 in 2024) to score more than 600 runs in a Test series against England and the second after Dravid to amass a total of more than 600 runs in a red-ball series played on English soil. view comments First Published: July 13, 2025, 23:45 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
