CCTV reveals leads in Rafizi's son assault, 14 questioned, police say
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said the leads were obtained following examination and review of closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage around the shopping area.
'There are leads from the CCTV recordings, but not fully at this time,' he said when contacted by Bernama yesterday.
So far, he said, 14 individuals had been called to assist in the investigation into the assault.
Shazeli said police were also investigating a threat message received by Rafizi's wife in relation to the incident, confirming that it was the first time the former economy minister's wife had received such a message via WhatsApp.
The report on the threat was lodged by Rafizi's wife, and investigations are ongoing with the assistance of related agencies, including the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).
On Wednesday, the police confirmed the son of the former PKR deputy president was assaulted in an incident at about 2pm at the pick-up and drop-off area of a shopping mall in Putrajaya.
Rafizi claimed the attack involved two men dressed in black and wearing helmets who arrived on a motorcycle, with one of them allegedly dragging his son before pricking him with a syringe. — Bernama

Jalur Gemilang: Don't take the law into your own hands
KUALA LUMPUR: The public has been urged not to take the law into their own hands or engage in unlawful acts against anyone committing offences related to the Jalur Gemilang flag, says Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil. He said that all matters involving investigations, prosecutions, and court decisions must be left entirely to the authorities, following a reminder issued by the Attorney-General's Chambers (A-GC) yesterday. "Do not act as the police, lawyers, or judge. It is wrong. Leave it to the police to investigate, the A-GC to prosecute, and the courts to decide," he said after launching the Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya-level National Month and Fly the Jalur Gemilang Flag 2025 campaign at Institut Pendidikan Guru (IPG) Kampus Bahasa Melayu today. The launch was also attended by Communications Ministry deputy secretary-general (strategic communications and creative industry) Nik Kamaruzaman Nik Husin; Information Department director-general Julina Johan; and IPG Kampus Bahasa Melayu director Dr Masitah Mohammad Yusof. Fahmi said that some people had been called in by the police following a rally held to "teach" certain parties a lesson, but further action would be handled solely by the authorities. He said Malaysians should address issues related to the Jalur Gemilang respectfully and constructively. "As Malaysians, we can also play our part. If we see a Jalur Gemilang that has fallen, we should raise it. If it is faded, replace it with a new one. If it is improperly flown, correct it ourselves. Let us not sneer, curse, or act uncivilly. We must demonstrate our patriotic spirit during the national month while reminding one another of proper conduct," he added. Fraudsters turn to TikTok and AI as scams hit Malaysia's youth hardest
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 16 — Fraud syndicates in Malaysia are exploiting social media and artificial intelligence (AI) to deploy sophisticated scams that blend child sexual exploitation, extortion and illegal content sales, with teenagers as their primary victims. Malaysian Cyber Consumers Association (MCCA) president Siraj Jalil said scam tactics have dramatically evolved over the past decade, from traditional Macau, romance and parcel scams to complex, multi-layered cybercrimes. He highlighted a scam involving 'sugar mummy' service offers on TikTok to lure teenagers, coercing them to share personal content classified as Child Sexual Exploitation Material (C-SET). Victims are then extorted for thousands of ringgit to avoid public exposure. 'Even after ransom payments, syndicates continue selling the compromising material on platforms like Telegram to paedophile communities,' Siraj told Bernama Radio today. He also warned social media merchants face new risks of being falsely accused when scammers duplicate their ads, deceive buyers and exploit buyer information to defraud the genuine sellers. When victims report fraud, the legitimate merchants' accounts may be frozen under suspicion, he added. Siraj also noted modern scams increasingly use AI-generated fake content, leaked data from major tech companies like Meta, and social engineering to study victim behaviour. To address these threats, the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) now operates 24/7 with an expanded cybercrime mandate. He urged parents to closely monitor their children's online activity and called on the government to provide AI literacy education for the public.
