Gadar 3 Confirmed: Is Sunny Deol set to return as Tara Singh again? Director drops first hint about the story

India.com5 days ago
Two years have passed since Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel returned to the big screen with Gadar 2, yet the film's emotional impact still lingers. For director Anil Sharma, one detail made this sequel unforgettable — Utkarsh Sharma, who played the young son in the original, reprising the same role as an adult.
'Perhaps it's the first time an actor who played a child in a film has grown up to play the same role again,' Sharma said. This real-life passage of time, woven into the film, gave Gadar 2 a rare continuity and authenticity.
Pushing the narrative beyond the events of the first Gadar wasn't easy. Sharma admitted, 'We had to think a lot about how to take the story forward. Once the story fell into place, the wait truly paid off.'
For him, the pressure wasn't just creative — it was emotional. Fans had been asking him for two decades why a sequel hadn't been made sooner.
Did the first film's success set higher expectations?
When asked if the record-breaking success of Gadar raised the bar for its sequel, Sharma didn't hesitate. ''Gadar' stayed in people's hearts. For the past twenty years, everyone kept asking me why I didn't make 'Gadar 2'. I knew people loved these characters. I had complete faith in the film's success. In fact, before release, I said it would earn ₹500 crore. Thankfully, God listened to me.'
A film that became a legacy
For Sharma, box office numbers were secondary to the emotional bond audiences share with Tara Singh, Sakeena, and Jeete. 'The love for these characters is what makes it a legacy,' he explained. It's this enduring connection that convinced him the story should not end with Gadar 2.
Gadar 3, already in motion?
Sharma confirmed that work on Gadar 3 has already begun. 'The story will continue because it holds a special place in the audience's hearts,' he said, hinting that the upcoming chapter will keep the emotional and patriotic essence intact.
For fans, that means more high-voltage drama, more heartfelt moments, and the return of a cinematic family they've cherished for over two decades.
