White Castle celebrates National Slider Day with free sliders on May 15
Fans of White Castle's original slider are in for a free treat this week. On Thursday, the nationwide chain is celebrating the square beef burger, commonly known as a slider, which launched it into fast-food hamburger fame.
In 2015, White Castle introduced National Slider Day, honoring its original steamed slider with onions. So prolific is the iconic slider that in 2014 Time magazine called it "the most influential burger of all time," according to White Castle.
To get the offer, customers on Thursday can use a digital coupon from White Castle's website. To redeem the offer using the White Castle app, use the code 'SLIDERDAY.''The introduction of the Slider in 1921 helped turn White Castle into a household name and launched the fast-food industry as we know it today,' said Jamie Richardson, vice president at White Castle, in a news release. 'We think a burger that has had so much influence in the food industry is worthy of its own special day, and what better way to celebrate than to thank our customers with a complimentary slider.'In addition to the free offer, White Castle recently launched its latest deal: six original sliders for $4, or about 67 cents for each slider.
Family-owned White Castle is based in Columbus, Ohio, and operates about 340 restaurants in addition to a retail side providing products to grocers' freezers.

Detroit Lions signing Trystan Colon as insurance with Frank Ragnow retiring: Report
It didn't take long for the Detroit Lions to find a backup plan at center. According to NFL Network's Mike Garafolo, the Lions have signed offensive lineman Trystan Colon to a one-year deal. Colon, 27, has played in 51 NFL games for two teams over five seasons, most recently for the Arizona Cardinals in 2024. He was undrafted out of Missouri in 2020. Colon, formerly known as Colon-Castillo, played in all 17 games for the Cardinals in 2024, making a career-high seven starts. He has made four career starts at center, all with the Baltimore Ravens from 2020-22, and 11 starts at right guard from 2023-24 with the Cardinals. The signing follows the retirement of longtime Lions center Frank Ragnow, who announced his retirement via Instagram on Monday. Trump, Xi will 'likely' talk this week: White House
US President Donald Trump and China's President Xi Jinping will likely hold a long-awaited call later this week, the White House said Monday, as trade tensions between the world's two biggest economies ratchet back up. Trump reignited strains with China last week when he accused the world's second-biggest economy of violating a deal that had led both countries to temporarily reduce huge tit-for-tat tariffs. "The two leaders will likely talk this week," Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told reporters outside the West Wing when asked whether Trump and Xi would speak. Trump and Xi have yet to have any confirmed contact more than five months since the Republican returned to power, despite frequent claims by the US president that a call is imminent. Trump even said in a Time Magazine interview in April that Xi had called him -- but Beijing insisted that there had been no call recently. Stock markets around the world mostly slid on Monday as the US-China tensions resurfaced. Trump in early April introduced sweeping worldwide tariffs that targeted China most heavily of all, accusing other countries of "ripping off" the United States and running trade imbalances. Beijing and Washington last month agreed to slash staggeringly high tariffs on each other for 90 days after talks between top officials in Geneva. But Trump and top US officials Washington officials last week accused China of violating the deal, with Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick saying Beijing was "slow-rolling" the agreement in comments to Fox News Sunday. Beijing rejected those "bogus" US claims on Monday, and accused Washington of introducing "a number of discriminatory restrictive measures." Shinola ends its ride: The Detroit brand quietly retires its bicycle collection
Detroit-based Shinola has stopped manufacturing and selling bicycles, which were once a core part of the brand's offerings. The last of the stock sold out in March 2025, a Shinola representative confirmed, and there aren't plans to restock at this time. "Shinola bikes have been a part of our brand DNA for years, and helped us make our mark in the design space," Shinola said in an emailed statement. "At this time, Shinola is committed to doubling down on our watch assortment," the company said, pointing to its recent partnership with the J Dilla estate to create limited-edition watches. When Shinola was founded in 2011 in Detroit, bicycles, which retailed for as much as $3,000, were one of the brand's core products, along with watches and leather goods. Later, it expanded with other products such as headphones and opened a hotel in downtown Detroit in 2019. However, Shinola said it isn't closing the door on bikes completely. "Whilst we might not have Shinola bikes currently, it doesn't mean they might not be back in the future, as there are a lot of exciting developments to come in 2025 and beyond," Shinola said in the statement.
