The Last of Us thrills viewers with an episode for the ages

The Last of Us produced one of the greatest episodes in recent TV memory in the most recent episode.
'The Rains of Castamere' in Game of Thrones, 'Ozymandias' in Breaking Bad, and now 'Through the Valley' in The Last of Us.

The Last of Us has consistently matched expectations and proven doubters wrong. First people said the zombie genre was overplayed after The Walking Dead. Wrong. Others claimed The Last of Us wouldn't do justice to the video game it's based on. Wrong again.
One more spoiler warning if you haven't seen episodes one and two of The Last of Us, season two.
Fans of the game knew this was coming, but probably not how brutal it would be.
Creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann have produced a thrilling story that is enhanced by their writing and powerful characters.
At its core, the last of us is all about the journey and growth of the protagonists Joel (Pedro Pascal) and Ellie (Bella Ramsey).

That made Joel's brutal end even more difficult to watch for viewers.
Ellie's distance from her father figure was made all the more tragic as she was forced to witness him being brutally tortured and killed by Abby (Kaitlyn Dever).
The characters and their story has always come above the action in The Last of Us, but this episode had plenty of both.
There was plenty of action in 'Through the Valley'.
The assault on Jackson from a horde of infected was visually stunning, and the devastation they caused to the sanctuary was only matched by Joel's death.
It's been the role of a lifetime for Pascal, and he'll be missed, but flashback scenes are likely in the next few episodes.
To have an episode this good very early is highly promising for the series, and the entrance of Dever (also known for Dopesick and Apple Cider Vinegar), is very promising.
The Last of Us season two, episode three will be available on NOW and Sky on Monday in Ireland.

"Most of the actors lived in Glasgow. It was only me and Alexej in Edinburgh," he explained, recalling a boozy trip to a French restaurant on their second day in the city: "We had lunch and were still there five hours later sort of six bottles of red wine down. If you become friends off-screen then it really helps on screen."

‘We will not stay silent': Ariana Grande and Pedro Pascal among supporters of LGBTQ+ suicide lifeline
Pedro Pascal, Ariana Grande and Jamie Lee Curtis are among the names included on an open letter aimed at protecting federal funds for LGBTQ+ suicide prevention. In collaboration with nonprofit organisation The Trevor Project, the letter has been released during Pride month and also features names such as Dua Lipa, Daniel Radcliffe, Troye Sivan, Sabrina Carpenter and Nathan Lane. 'As artists, creators, and public figures, our platforms come with responsibility,' the letter reads. 'And today, that responsibility is clear: we must speak out to protect the mental health and lives of LGBTQ+ youth. We will not stay silent.' It follows reports of a proposal to eliminate funding for the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline's LGBTQ+ youth specialized services. Since its implementation in 2022, it's provided help to over 14m people. LGBTQ+ people are roughly four times more likely to kill themselves than their peers. 'This is about people, not politics,' the letter reads. 'At a time of deep division, let this be something we as people can all agree on: no young person should be left without help in their darkest moment. Stripping away this lifeline leaves LGBTQ+ youth with the message that their lives are not worth saving. We refuse to accept that message.' The letter calls on the administration and Congress to 'restore and protect' funding in the 2026 budget. 'You may be hurting,' the letter reads. 'You may be scared. You may feel like no one hears you – but we do. We will keep showing up and speaking out. We will not stop fighting for you.' Pascal, Grande and Curtis have all been vocal allies with LGBTQ+ family members. Pascal, who has a transgender sister, recently called JK Rowling a 'heinous loser' in response to her transphobic views. The list of names on the letter, which also includes Diplo, Sarah Paulson and Cara Delevingne, will continue to be updated on a rolling basis. In a statement, Trevor Project CEO Jamyes Black added: 'I am deeply grateful to the influential voices in entertainment who are speaking out and reminding the public that suicide prevention is about people – not politics.'
