A cursed doll rumored to have gone missing while touring the US with a traveling exhibit is being blamed for local disasters including a fire and a jailbreak.
The 'Annabelle' doll, which some believe is demon-possessed and was featured in The Conjuring horror films, is on a paranormal tour along with other items belonging to her ghost hunter owners.
Word on the street in mid-May was that Anabelle vanished while stopping at the Ghost City Tours office in New Orleans. It happened to be the same week that a fire tore through a nearby plantation and 10 prisoners escaped from a jail.
But Tony Spera, the owner of the Warren Occult Museum in Monroe, Connecticut, said that Annabelle is 'safely back' there locked in her display case.
'You know, it's easy for rumors to start. The fact of the matter is, that doll was never out of our sight, never out of our control,' Spera told NBC News this week.
'It's in a protective case that many precautions were taken to make it safe.'
Paranormal investigator Ryan Buell sought to further quell rumors by posting a video on Facebook on May 24 of himself at the museum.
'She's not in Chicago, she never was in Chicago, and she's not missing because she's right behind me,' said Buell, while pointing the camera towards him with the doll sitting in the case over his shoulder.
Still, social media users and conspiracy theorists have been skeptical about those accounts of Annabelle's whereabouts.
A blaze destroyed the Nottoway Plantation House between Baton Rouge and New Orleans on May 15, and the very next day, inmates escaped from the Orleans Justice Center.
Annabelle was touring in New Orleans on May 13 and 14, and among the precautions that were taken were having a Catholic priest alongside the doll.
Some people are 'absolutely convinced' that Ghost City Tours is at fault for the fire and jailbreak, said its founder Tim Nealon.
One Facebook user asked why Annabelle wasn't left at the Connecticut museum and wrote on Ghost City Tours' page: 'Did it cross your mind maybe she was there for a reason. Some things are better left alone.'
'I did not think people were taking it seriously, I kept seeing jokes about it on Instagram and TikTok,' Nealon told USA Today.
'But, I didn't realize people were out here like, actually thinking that this was legit.' More Trending
Spera said he doesn't blame people for being skeptical.
'If people don't know about the demonic, it's very difficult to believe that these thing are happening,' he said.
'But they do happen.'
Annabelle has been on sold-out tours across the US – and Buell said that plans are underway for her to be at the Rock Island Roadhouse Esoteric Expo in Illinois on October 4.

Scottish police drama with 'palpable tension' races up Netflix top 10 chart

Initially airing on ITV in 2017, The Loch was created by Stephen Brady and follows DS Annie Redford (Breaking Bad's Laura Fraser), an officer with the Scottish Highland Police as she investigates the murder of piano teacher Niall Swift after he is found dead at the bottom of a cliff in the picturesque village of Lochnafoy, Loch Fyne, Inveraray. However, it quickly emerges that a serial killer is responsible after its discovered part of Swift's brain has been removed and a human heart belonging to another victim is found close by With a huge task ahead, Glasgow based major investigation detective DCI Lauren Quigley (Happy Valley's Siobhan Finneran) is then brought in to lead the enquiry. Last week the six-part series (which was titled Loch Ness in the US) was added to Netflix, with viewers quickly taking the chance to binge it. 'This tartan-clad Broadchurch shows a lot of promise, not least in the way it plays on people's Loch Ness fascinations,' the Express wrote in its review. 'The peel-the-onion format here is familiar by now, but Stephen Brady's script and a group of fine performances keep it intriguing, nonetheless. A fine diversion for summer evenings,' The New York Times shared. Untamed Loch Ness Amy Bradley is Missing Critical: Between Life and Death Angi: Fake Life, True Crime The Sandman WWE Smack Down My Melody and Kuromi Squid Game The Jury 'You'll probably figure out the ending to Loch Ness well before the fog lifts, but my hunch is you're here mainly for the luscious scenery,' The Washington Post said. 'It does a good job of slowly building up a portrait of a troubled but brilliant man with little regard for authority but great regard for the law itself. Definitely worth a look,' The Post NZ added. Meanwhile user amwilson-50395 said the show 'feels fresh and has you second guessing at every clue uncovered'. 'The desire to uncover the truth is overwhelming. Suspenseful moments intertwined in a mix of both fast- and slow-moving plot points, if you are into British crime dramas, this needs to be added to your must watch list,' they wrote on IMDB. Others said it was 'compelling', 'gripping' and 'superb'. At the time of The Loch's premiere, its star Laura said the following when asked to describe it. 'It's all very dark and creepy but also has moments that are quite tongue-in-cheek. It reminds me a wee bit of the classic movie An American Werewolf in London. It has that that vibe and there's a lot of animal symbolism – wolves, crows, mutilated sheep and, of course, plenty of mentions of the Loch Ness monster.' More Trending When initially teasing details of the show, ITV shared: 'What secrets lie beneath the surface? In this stunningly set crime drama, some monsters are no myth. For Detective Annie Redford, the hunt is on to catch a killer. 'A murder in a small Scottish town sends the community into shock, and local detective Annie Redford is thrust into her first murder case.' The Loch also stars Don Gilet as psychological profiler Blake Albrighton, John Sessions as Annie's boss DCI Frank Smilie, Gray O'Brien as Alan Redford, Annie's husband, and William Ash as local tourist operator Leighton Thomas. Diana Gabaldon sends fans wild ahead of Blood of My Blood premiere with last book sneak peek

The Outlander author has shared a sneak peek of her new book A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon has sent fans into a frenzy as she teased her new book ahead of the Blood of My Blood premiere. The spin off show of Outlander, which is a prequel, is set to air next month and the official launch is taking place in LA on Tuesday, which Diana is in town for. ‌ Taking to her Facebook page, the iconic author marked the special occasion by teasing fans by sharing a snippet of her new book A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out, which is set to be the final instalment in the Outlander series. ‌ She penned: "Well, I'm in LA for the premiere. Looking forward to it! Also to having all of you see it soon! ‌ "In the meantime, though, I thought I'd provide a little entertainment for those at home." She then went on to post a lengthy extract from her book, which fans went wild for. One part fans went particularly liked sees Claire ask Frances what Jamie said to her in Gaelic. She replied: 'He said, 'I burn for thee, Englishwoman'. ‌ "She made a small sound in her throat and looked down at her feet, adding softly, 'And I always will'." Many fans flocked to the comments to talk about the sneak peek. One said: "And that is possibly the best extract ever." ‌ Another said: "Amazing how such a short piece can conjure so many feelings. Amusement, sorrow, fear, anticipation. I can't wait to read this book!" While one added: "How can someone write words this powerful on a regular basis." Another said: "I'm greetin' already and I don't even know what's going to happen." ‌ And one wrote: "Smiling but with tears in my eyes reading that!" A Blessing For a Warrior Going Out is the 10th and concluding volume of the Outlander saga, however Diana previously took to Facebook to address fans' concerns sparked by the seemingly portentous title: "No, that doesn't mean Jamie's going to die." ‌ Clarifying the confusion, Gabaldon stated it was not a "death blessing", but the Blessing of St. Michael, intended for a warrior on the verge of undertaking an essential and dangerous mission. The reassurance allows fans to temporarily set aside their worries - yet with Jamie's ghost making an appearance in the novel, and his lack of immortality established, it's inferred the character will eventually succumb. ‌ Many followers of the series anticipate that Gabaldon's final literary endeavour will offer closure regarding the enigma of Jamie's ghost. Over time, Gabaldon has peppered hints about this mysterious apparition that manifests in 1940s Inverness, immediately before Claire (played by Caitríona Balfe) travels through the stones into Jamie's era. Among these veiled revelations, the author has intimated that the ghost seems to be a 25-year-old Jamie as he was at Culloden. ‌ Yet, Gabaldon also tempered this with the notion that ghosts have the autonomy to choose how they appear, detached from the age they were at the time of death. She further expounded that contrary to some theories, the phenomenon isn't Jamie performing any kind of astral projection across time - rather, it is indeed his spirit from after his demise. There isn't an exact completion date for her novel. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! Get the latest news sent straight to your messages by joining our WhatsApp community today.
