Amarnath Yatra 2025 Resumes: 7,908 Pilgrims Depart From Jammu To Kashmir After Weather Suspension

India.com5 days ago
A batch of 7,908 pilgrims left for Kashmir from Jammu on Friday, a day after the Amarnath Yatra was suspended due to bad weather. Officials said over 2.52 lakh yatris have so far performed the ongoing Amarnath Yatra since it started on July 3.
'Another batch of 7,908 yatris left Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas in two escorted convoys for the Valley today. First escorted convoy of 92 vehicles carrying 2,879 yatris left at 3.30 a.m. for Baltal base camp while the second escorted convoy of 169 vehicles carrying 5,029 yatris left at 4.25 a.m. for Nunwan (Pahalgam) base camp,' officials said.
Bhumi Pujan of 'Chhari Mubarak' (Lord Shiva's Holy Mace) was performed at Pahalgam on July 10. The Chhari Mubarak was taken to Pahalgam by a group of seers led by the sole custodian of the Chhari Mubarak, Mahant Swami Deependra Giri, from its seat at the Dashnami Akhara Building in Srinagar to Pahalgam.
In Pahalgam, the Chhari Mubarak was taken to the Gauri Shankar temple, where the Bhumi Pujan was held.
The Chhari Mubarak was then taken back to its seat at the Dashnami Akhara building. It will start its final journey towards the cave shrine from Dashnami Akhara temple in Srinagar on August 4 and will reach the holy cave shrine on August 9, marking the official conclusion of the Yatra.
Authorities have made extensive multi-tier security arrangements for this year's Amarnath Yatra, as this takes place after the cowardly attack of April 22 in which Pakistan-backed terrorists killed 26 civilians after segregating them based on faith in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
An additional 180 companies of CAPFs have been brought in to augment the existing strength of the Army, BSF, CRPF, SSB and the local police.
This year, the Yatra started on July 3 and will end after 38 days on August 9, coinciding with Shravan Purnima and Raksha Bandhan. Yatris approach the holy cave shrine situated 3888 metres above sea level in the Kashmir Himalayas either from the traditional Pahalgam route or the shorter Baltal route.
Those using the Pahalgam route pass through Chandanwari, Sheshnag and Panchtarni to reach the cave shrine, covering a distance of 46 km on foot. This trek takes a pilgrim four days to get to the cave shrine. And, those using the shorter Baltal route have to trek 14 km to reach the cave shrine and return to the base camp the same day after having darshan.
No helicopter services are available to Yatris this year due to security reasons.
The cave shrine houses an ice stalagmite structure that wanes and waxes with the phases of the moon. Devotees believe that the ice stalagmite structure symbolises the mythical powers of Lord Shiva.

UK asylum racket: PoK migrants pay ₹58 lakh for fake visas, reveals report

Migrants from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) are reportedly entering the UK on visas obtained using falsified documents and later applying for asylum, according to an undercover investigation by The Daily Telegraph. The report claims some applicants are paying as much as £50,000 (around ₹58.5 lakh) for UK visa applications loaded with fake details. One example uncovered by the investigation involved a job reference letter from a 'fake hospital' in Mirpur, submitted as part of an application to the UK Home Office. Fake CVs, false employers and visa success A consultant based in Mirpur, named in the report, allegedly helped forge employment documents for individuals posing as skilled workers. In one instance, an undercover applicant submitted a fabricated CV and reference letter, which ultimately resulted in a successful work visa. Reacting to the allegations, the UK Home Office said it had launched an investigation. 'Illegal activity will not be tolerated and we will stop at nothing to ensure our immigration rules are respected and enforced,' said a Home Office spokesperson. 'We are already taking firm action to disrupt illegal activity when it is found, including suspending licences, pursuing enforcement, and strengthening safeguards to protect the integrity of the immigration system,' the spokesperson added. What the UK immigration white paper says about asylum misuse The report, published on May 12, 2025, noted growing misuse of asylum routes: 1. People claiming asylum after entering on valid visas (with no change in circumstances) 2. Some misrepresent their age to access certain services 3. Overall misuse undermines system integrity and public trust. The document outlined proposed measures to restrict misuse: • New legislation aimed at limiting the use of Article 8 of the Human Rights Act by asylum seekers • Stronger enforcement through e-visas, biometric checks and digital ID to detect overstayers or rule-breakers • Earlier tracking and deportation of foreign national offenders once convicted, even for minor offences According to Home Office data: • Visa applications dropped by 40 per cent over the past year • Around 30,000 people with no legal status were removed • Arrests linked to illegal working rose by 51 per cent New powers are also being introduced to immediately suspend registered immigration advisers and companies suspected of serious abuse. Asylum claims and trends from Pakistan Pakistani nationals currently top the list of asylum claimants in the UK, followed by Afghanistan, Iran and Bangladesh. However, they are not among the largest groups arriving via illegal routes such as small boats. In May 2025, the UK government said it would increase intelligence efforts to track foreign nationals using legal entry channels—like study or work visas—to claim asylum later. 'We are building intelligence on the profile of these individuals to identify them earlier and faster,' a Home Office press release said at the time. Official asylum figures show: • Pakistani asylum applications rose 79 per cent in a year, reaching 10,542 • Pakistan and Afghanistan saw a 53 per cent approval rate • Iran had a 64 per cent grant rate • Syria (98 per cent), Eritrea (87 per cent), and Sudan (99 per cent) had the highest approval rates Among the 40,000 asylum seekers who entered the UK last year on valid visas: • 16,000 were international students • 11,500 had work visas • 9,500 entered as visitors Under the Immigration and Asylum Act 1999, asylum applicants facing destitution can access financial and housing support, provided they declare all sources of income and assets.

ED files FEMA case against Myntra over Rs 1,654-crore FDI violation

New Delhi, Jul 23 (PTI) The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday said it has registered a FEMA case against Flipkart-backed e-commerce platform Myntra, its linked companies and directors for alleged FDI contravention of over Rs 1,654 crore. The federal probe agency said in a statement that the complaint was filed by its Bengaluru zonal office under Section 16(3) of the Foreign Exchange Management Act (FEMA) acting on 'credible information" that Myntra Designs Private Limited, whose brand name is Myntra, and its related companies are doing multi-brand retail trade in the guise of 'wholesale cash and carry". This is in alleged violation of extant Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) guidelines and provisions of the FEMA, the agency said in a statement. A spokesperson of the Bengaluru-headquartered Myntra, a fashion and lifestyle e-commerce platform, said in a statement that the company is 'deeply committed to upholding all applicable laws of the land and operating with the highest standards of compliance and integrity". 'While we have not received a copy of the subject complaint and the supporting documents from the authorities, we remain fully committed to cooperating with them at any point of time," the spokesperson said. The ED said Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd. had declared that it was engaged in the business of 'wholesale cash and carry" and it invited and received Rs 16,54,35,08,981 FDI from foreign investors. The company sold the majority of its goods to Vector E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd., which sold the goods in retail to the ultimate customer, according to the agency. 'Vector E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd. and Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd. are related parties and belong to the same group or group of companies," it said. According to the ED findings, Vector E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd. was 'created and continued to be used" as a corporate entity to bifurcate the B2C (business to customer i.e. Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd. to retail customers) transaction into B2B (Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd. to Vector E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd.) and then B2C (Vector E-Commerce Pvt. Ltd. to retail customers). Even otherwise, the ED said, Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd. has 'not satisfied" the condition laid down for 'wholesale cash and carry trading' as it has made cent per cent sales to Vector E- Commerce Pvt. Ltd., which is in 'contravention" of amendments dated 01.04.2010 and 01.10.2010 which permitted only 25 per cent sale to companies belonging to the same group or group companies. Myntra Designs Pvt. Ltd. and others have 'contravened" the provisions according to Section 6(3)(b) of the FEMA and the consolidated FDI policy dated 01.04.2010 and consolidated FDI policy dated 01.10.2010 to the tune of Rs 16,54,35,08,981, it said. At present, the country's FDI policy does not permit foreign direct investment in the inventory-based model of e-commerce. It is allowed only in firms that are operating through a marketplace model. Founded in 2007 and now part of the Flipkart Group, owned by Walmart, Myntra is stated to have over 70 million monthly active users and a catalogue of more than 3.9 million styles from over 9,700 brands. The Myntra spokesperson said that as a homegrown marketplace, the company was committed to contributing to India's nation-building efforts by empowering the textile and apparel ecosystem through digital commerce. 'By working closely with Indian brands and sellers, artisans and weavers, we have helped bring traditional craftsmanship to a global audience, particularly among the Indian diaspora. 'In doing so, we've strengthened the industry's digital backbone and created large-scale employment and entrepreneurship opportunities across the country," the spokesperson said.
