Fantasy football managers are always looking for an edge over their opponents, to get closer to a championship and to become a better player overall. Yahoo Fantasy Plus has been proven to provide the exclusive tools to help fantasy managers do just that. And today, we want to put the spotlight on one of those tools in particular, Draft Scout, and what makes Draft Scout so special, and so powerful: VOLS.
But what is VOLS?

Well, we have to start with the draft process itself. Every draft pick you make is a trade-off. You're not just choosing one player over another, you're choosing one position over another, one drop-off in talent over another. This is where the concept of Value Over Last Starter (VOLS) comes into play.

And once you understand it, you'll never draft the same way again.
Fantasy managers often get caught chasing big names or average draft position trends. But optimal drafting is about squeezing the most value out of every single pick. VOLS brings a sharper lens to that process, guiding you to build a roster with the highest net impact.

Understanding Positional Value Curves
Not all positions are created equal. When you look at how player value drops off across a position, you'll notice some are flatter (like wide receiver), while others are steep (like running back or quarterback in certain formats).
Think of it like a hill:
A flat curve means player value doesn't fall off much after the next few picks. You can wait longer to draft and still get solid production.
A steep curve means there's a sharp drop-off in points. Miss the next tier, and you could be at a weekly disadvantage.
How VOLS Is Measured
VOLS calculates how many points a player is projected to score over the last expected starter at that position in your league format.
If your league starts:
3 WRs
2 RBs
1 TE
Then VOLS looks at how much more a player scores compared to the WR36, RB24 or TE12 — i.e., the last starter in a 12-team league.
The formula is simple:
Projected Points - Projected Points of Last Starter = VOLS

This isn't just math for math's sake. This is strategy.
Why VOLS Helps You Draft Smarter
Here's where it gets powerful: VOLS cuts through the potential noise of rankings and average draft position (ADP).
Say you're debating:
George Kittle 3rd ranked TE overall, projected 172 pts
Tee Higgins 17th ranked WR overall, projected 181 pts
Both players have similar ADPs, at first glance, maybe Tee Higgins seems like the better pick. But:
Jauan Jennings the WR36 (last starter) is projected 155 pts, which means Tee Higgins has a VOLS equal to 26 (181 - 155)
Colston Loveland the TE12 (last starter) is projected 116 pts, which means George Kittle has a VOLS equal to 56 (172 - 116)
In this case George Kittle at TE gives you a larger edge at their position. One pick with strong VOLS can tilt a weekly matchup in your favor and multiple picks with strong VOLS compound that advantage.
This is the same philosophy NFL teams apply in the real world. It's about identifying where a player gives you a meaningful edge relative to scarcity and average annual salary against the salary cap. VOLS exposes these inefficiencies and helps you build a roster that gains value where it matters most.

Championships aren't won by just drafting "the best player available." They're won by drafting the most valuable player for your roster and your league format. That's what VOLS does. It turns your draft into a strategy game and gives you the winning formula.

Lakers' Rui Hachimura shares eye-catching sumo wrestling training video

The post Lakers' Rui Hachimura shares eye-catching sumo wrestling training video appeared first on ClutchPoints. Rui Hachimura will once again play a key role for the Los Angeles Lakers as they enter their first full season with Luka Doncic. By the looks of it, Hachimura isn't taking his responsibility lightly. The 27-year-old forward is expected to start for the Lakers, along with Doncic, LeBron James, Austin Reaves, and Deandre Ayton. He has been a productive member of the squad with his athleticism, versatility, and range. This offseason, Hachimura is making sure that he unlocks more facets of his game. He is also doing it in a unique way, training with sumo wrestlers in his home country of Japan, as posted on his Instagram Story. Hachimura can learn a lot from sumo wrestlers. They are known for their extreme strength, especially in their legs, core, and upper body. They could help the Lakers forward deal with the physicality in the NBA. Sumo wrestlers also have impressive balance and endurance. Perhaps more importantly, Hachimura can learn discipline and focus. Sumo wrestlers are lauded for their very regimented training, including meditation. It's not a secret that mental strength is important in the NBA, especially for someone who plays for a highly publicized team like the Lakers. Players try different methods in the offseason to level up, and it's cool to see Hachimura, who was born in Toyama, get back to his roots. The former Gonzaga standout has also played for Japan in different international tournaments. Last season, he averaged 13.1 points on 50.9% shooting from the field and 5.0 rebounds in a career-high 31.7 minutes per game. He has earned the trust of coach JJ Redick, who utilized Hachimura in various schemes, particularly when they play small. Hachimura, however, has also been linked to trade rumors since last season, with the Miami Heat, the Sacramento Kings, and the Brooklyn Nets being mentioned as possible destinations. Dustin Poirier Set for New Chapter at UFC 319

Dustin Poirier Set for New Chapter at UFC 319 originally appeared on Athlon Sports. Poirier begins life after fighting by joining the UFC 319 commentary team alongside Rogan, Cormier, and Anik It wasn't the storybook ending many had hoped for, but it was one that drew respect from fans across the MMA world. At UFC 318 in his home state of Louisiana, Dustin Poirier stepped into the Smoothie King Center for what would be his final fight. Facing a familiar rival in Max Holloway, Poirier had history on his side—winning both of their previous encounters. This time, however, Holloway flipped the script, earning a unanimous decision victory over the former interim lightweight champion. While the night didn't end with his hand raised, Poirier's next chapter is already set in motion. According to Mike Bohn of MMA Junkie, Poirier will join the broadcast team for UFC 319. 'No time wasted for Dustin Poirier getting on the analyst desk in retirement. Also, Joe Rogan will be back to call #UFC319 with Daniel Cormier and Jon Anik,' Bohn noted. Poirier is no stranger to the analyst desk, having previously worked with ESPN for select events and even offering commentary at UFC 287. With his deep understanding of the fight game, Poirier has the tools to offer fans unique insight into the action inside the octagon. He follows a path taken by other fighters-turned-analysts like Michael Bisping, Paul Felder, and Daniel Cormier, each bringing their own experience and storytelling ability to the booth. For Poirier, this isn't a farewell from MMA—it's a new way to contribute to the sport he's dedicated his life to. UFC 319 will be the first step in that next journey. Lakers' LeBron James reacts to Stephen Curry's awesome Olympic throwback

The post Lakers' LeBron James reacts to Stephen Curry's awesome Olympic throwback appeared first on ClutchPoints. The 2024 Paris Olympics will forever be cherished by Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James and Golden State Warriors star Stephen Curry as they led Team USA to the gold medal after going through the gauntlet against Serbia and France. Team USA survived Serbia, led by Nikola Jokic and Bogdan Bogdanovic, in the semifinals, 95-91, before fending off the star-studded host country in the finals, 98-87. James and Curry, along with Houston Rockets star Kevin Durant, provided the heroics in both games, allowing the United States to capture the gold medal for the fifth straight time. For a brief stretch, fans of the Lakers and the Warriors were on the same page. The 37-year-old Curry took to Instagram to reminisce about their victory over France and his entire experience in the 2024 Paris Olympics. 'A year ago, today. We did that! Loved hooping with my guys, representing our country, and bringing home the 🥇. Memories for a lifetime. Avengers forever. #nuitnuit,' wrote the Warriors guard. The 40-year-old James chimed in with a short comment. 'Yes, sir! 🫡👑💪🏾,' wrote the Lakers forward. James and Curry have developed a tight bond over the years, a complete turnaround from their tension-filled rivalry during the Warriors' dynastic run. Since then, they've found a kindred spirit in each other—two future Hall of Famers fueled by their families and communities. Both glowed in the City of Lights last year, and that's a shared experience of a lifetime. Decades from now, when they're not playing for the Lakers and the Warriors anymore, James and Curry can always look back on how they stood head and shoulders above the rest of the world. It's fair to say that the 2024 Paris Olympics could be the final hurrah for James and Curry on Team USA. If that truly is the case, what a way to say 'night, night.'
