Delhi govt inaugurates battery system to manage peak demand
Delhi power minister Ashish Sood on Thursday inaugurated a 20MW/40MWh stand-alone utility-scale battery energy storage system (BESS), at Kilokri in south Delhi, and said that it will be used to improve power supply and manage peak power demand.
Developed by BSES Rajdhani Power Limited, officials said it is the country's first commercially approved and South Asia's largest such system.
'This system, built in record time under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, sets a new benchmark in regulatory and technological innovation across India. Developed with support from IndiGrid, GEAPP, and TERI, this is south Asia's largest standalone battery inverter-type power setup — based on advanced technology. Through this initiative, the government aims to ensure uninterrupted power supply for Delhi's citizens. This cutting-edge model will be widely adopted to eliminate power outages across the capital,' Sood said.
South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri was also present on the occasion.
The minister said the 20MW storage system will reduce the strain on Delhi's power infrastructure. The government will scale up the model further, particularly in unauthorised colonies and areas with limited land availability or no existing grid.
'Under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, the Delhi government's top priority is to overhaul the neglected and outdated power infrastructure of the last ten years. The aim is to rapidly adopt new technologies to ensure smooth and round-the-clock electricity supply for the people of Delhi,' Sood said.

Using opportunity charging, they can be topped up in 45 minutes. With this rollout, PMI's electric bus fleet now exceeds 2,500 units across 31 cities. A house for CM Gupta: Plot 8, Raj Niwas Marg
Delhi's chief minister will have her official residence on Plot No 8, Raj Niwas Marg, Civil Lines, North Delhi, according to an allotment letter issued by the Public Works Department (PWD) on Thursday, officials aware of the matter said. There are four bungalows on this plot. Chief minister Rekha Gupta is being allotted bungalow numbers 1 and 2. Most likely, she will live in one and use the other as a camp office. The other two bungalows , 3 and 4, are with deputy speaker Mohan Singh Bisht and social welfare minister Ravinder Indraj Singh, respectively. 'Bungalow number 1 was being used for the LG's secretariat which is being vacated as of now. Bungalow number 2 was earlier allocated to MLA Abhay Verma but he also decided to surrender it after which it has been allocated to the CM,' said a PWD official. Officials added that the bungalows follow the home ministry guidelines on allocation of residential accommodation as the CM has been given Z-level security. 'There are specific criteria that we need to follow like the number of entry and exits, an open congregation area for events (like a lawn), segregated residential and office space, segregated servant quarters etc,' said the official. The CM visited at least 7-8 properties on DDU Marg, Civil Lines and also considered some from the central pool before finalising these two bungalows, officials said. She is currently staying at her family home in her constituency, Shalimar Bagh. The chief minister' office did not respond to queries on the allocation. 'Bungalows are usually shortlisted from our residential pool. These are offered to the CM and she may visit the houses to finalise the one she seems fit. The finalised house is then approved and allocated through the General Administration Department (GAD). Following due process, the allocation has been made,' said a PWD official, explaining the process. Gupta, as well as other BJP leaders, had declared that she would not live at 6, Flagstaff Road, Arvind Kejriwal's official residence when he was CM. Dubbed 'Sheeshmahal' by the BJP and other political parties and held up as a symbol of corruption, the bungalow is the subject of a probe over excessive expenditure by the vigilance department. The first two of three chief ministers of Delhi — Brahm Prakash and Madan Lal Khurana — were allotted 33, Shamnath Marg. However, after they seemed to have suffered 'bad luck', succeeding chief ministers stayed away. Delhi's longest serving chief minister , Congress leader Sheila Dikshit, stayed at the much smaller residence at AB-17, Mathura Road, for much of her three Shamnath Marg house was also allocated to Aam Aadmi Party's Atishi but she preferred to stay at her private house in Kalkaji.

‘To boost clean urban mobility': PM Modi flags off 200 e-buses on World Environment Day
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on the occasion of World Environment Day on Thursday, flagged off 200 electric buses in Delhi to promote green and clean urban transport, said officials. After inaugurating the bus, the PM stated that the initiative will contribute to building a clean and green Delhi. He further underlined that this step will also improve the 'Ease of Living' for the people of Delhi, according to an official statement from the PM's office. In a post on X, the PM said, 'Building a clean and green Delhi! Flagged off electric buses under an initiative of the Delhi government aimed at boosting sustainable development and clean urban mobility. Additionally, this will also improve 'Ease of Living' for the people of Delhi.' The event was also attended by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, L-G Vinai Kumar Saxena, and Union Minister of Environment Bhupender Yadav. 'PM plants a sapling under the 'Ek ped Ma ke Naam' initiative as part of the Aravalli Green Wall project, which aims to reforest the 700-km Aravalli range, at Bhagwan Mahavir Vanasthali Park, New Delhi. PM Modi also flagged off 200 electric buses under the Delhi government's sustainable transport initiative, promoting clean urban mobility and symbolising India's collective responsibility towards sustainable development,' Yadav posted on X. At present, there are 3,266 buses under DTC. Of these, 1,895 are electric buses and 1,371 are CNG buses. With the addition of 200 buses, the electric fleet increases to 2,095 buses. By the end of 2025, the CM added, 2,080 buses will be provided to Delhi, and by 2027, the Delhi government's public transport fleet will be fully electric. She also mentioned that a new EV policy will be implemented soon by the Delhi government.
