Motorcyclist killed and passenger seriously hurt in A5 crash

The pillion passenger was seriously injured following in the incident at Capel Curig on Saturday, May 10.
Police were called at 5.31pm by the Welsh Ambulance Service to a report of collision involving a red-coloured Honda motorcycle and a white-coloured Volkswagen Caddy van.
North Wales Police said: "The emergency services attended, however despite the best efforts of all involved, the male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
"The female pillion passenger was airlifted to hospital in Stoke with serious, potentially life-changing injuries.
"The driver of the van sustained what was believed to be minor injuries."
The motorcyclist's family have been informed.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
Sergeant Leigh McCann, of the Roads Crime Unit, said: 'Our thoughts are with the motorcyclist's family at this sad time.
'The investigation to establish the cause of the collision is underway and we are urging anybody who may have witnessed the collision, or anybody who may have been travelling along the A5 near Capel Curig around the time of the collision and who may have dash cam footage to come forward.
'The road remains closed in both directions at this time, and we'd like to thank the local community and motorists for their patience.'

More info Police have launched an appeal after two "unaccounted for" dogs were discovered in a vehicle, after the driver was arrested on the A55. Officers are now trying to locate the owners of the "lovely dogs". A North Wales Police West Conwy Coastal statement said: "Whilst assisting our Road Crime Unit colleagues in an arrest of a male on the A55 on suspicion of Drug driving and theft of a motor vehicle Colwyn Bay Neighbourhood Policing officers discovered the two lovely dogs in the pictures in the car. "The male driver was not able to give a proper account for the dogs so he was also arrested on suspicion of theft. The dogs are currently being looked after by the team in our office in Head Quarters while we wait for them to be collected by our colleagues in the kennels. A BOMB SQUAD was called to a school after a 'potentially harmful chemical' was discovered. Pupils were evacuated from Denbigh High School in Wales while the squad carried out a controlled explosion. A North Wales Police Conwy and Denbigh Rural statement read: "We can confirm that the EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) Team have attended and has safely removed the items and carried out a successful controlled explosion." The school issued a warning to parents after historical chemicals were found. Around 500 pupils aged 11-18 were evacuated Tuesday afternoon on expert advice. In a statement the school said: 'We have had to evacuate the school building early this afternoon on advice due to the discovery of historical chemicals within the chemical store cupboard in the science department. 'This decision has been made to safeguard all members of the school community. Learners will be travelling home as normal (in 10 minutes) at the end of the school day.' 1
