Macaulay Tait tells Hearts boss Derek McInnes he's ready to roar after showing his teeth for Livingston
The Jambos youngster made the most of his loan spell in West Lothian and is determined to come back with a bang
Macaulay Tait has told Derek McInnes he's ready to fight for a place in his new look Hearts side after coming of age at Livingston.
The Jambos kid is heading back to Tynecastle for pre-season after a superb six month loan stint with the Lions – where he helped fire David Martindale's men to promotion to the Premiership after lifting the Challenge Cup.
The 19-year-old was a smash hit in West Lothian and he's convinced the spell can boost his chances of being part of the new manager's plans.
Tait said: 'Coming here has been brilliant for me, it's been a great experience.
'I've won promotion and won a cup final, so it's been amazing and I've loved it.
'I feel a much better player now, I feel like a more Scottish midfielder able to deal with the physicality of the game.
'That was one of the big things I had to improve in my game and I feel I'm much better on the ball now.
'The last five months have been massive for my development and I'll go back to Hearts looking to challenge for a place there.
'Obviously we have a new manager so I'll have to show him I can provide something for the team.
'I'm looking forward to it. Derek McInnes ' record speaks for itself given what he's achieved at other clubs so it's exciting times there.
'I will enjoy this for a few days, have a few weeks off and then get back into it for pre-season there.'
Tait is still on a high after Livi's dramatic play-off success – with Martindale's heroes coming from two down to triumph over Ross County in the second leg showdown in Dingwall.
He said: 'We made it hard for ourselves but we always had the belief.
'That's what happens when you've been playing well all season.
'We did well last Thursday and after going 2-0 down in Dingwall we really turned up.
'It's fine margins in the Premiership, County punished us for two slack moments but we were able to show our quality after that.
'There's a really good squad here, I hope the gaffer is able to keep it together because they can make an impact.'\

Ex-Celtic loan star Daniel Arzani ‘weighing up move to Premiership rivals' on free transfer
He revealed his time at Parkhead left him not feeling like a footballer anymore CHANGE OF HEART Ex-Celtic loan star Daniel Arzani 'weighing up move to Premiership rivals' on free transfer DANIEL ARZANI'S time at Celtic was an absolute nightmare. But the Australia international could be set for a second crack at Scottish football. 3 Daniel Arzani was stretchered off on his Celtic debut Credit: PA:Press Association 3 He's rebuilt his career back in Australia Credit: Getty Arzani, 26, joined Celtic on a two-year loan deal in August 2018. The move came just over a week after he had joined English Premier League giants Manchester City from fellow City Group club Melbourne City. Aged just 19 at the time, Arzani was a huge prospect. Unfortunately, injury would completely and utterly wreck his spell with the Hoops. Brendan Rodgers gave him his first team debut on October 31, 2018 in a Scottish Premiership clash with Dundee. He came on as a 57th minute substitute for fellow Australian Tom Rogic but would last just 21 minutes. Arzani suffered a horror injury, one that turned out to be a torn ACL. It kept him out for the best part of a year. Arzani fought back and returned to first team action in January 2020, appearing in a Scottish Cup tie against Partick Thistle. That would end up being his second and final Celtic appearance. Robbie Neilson Released by Rangers, finding a home at Hearts, and splitting the Old Firm A series of unfruitful loans followed, with Arzani spending time at Utrecht, AGF and Lommel. He left Manchester City in 2022 and returned to Australia with Macarthur FC. Arzani finally found regular football and after just one year with the club he moved to Melbourne Victory where he's enjoyed a solid couple of years. More than five years on from his Parkhead nightmare, Arzani could be set for another crack at Scottish football. ESPN's Mark Donaldson is reporting that he's weighing up a move to Hearts. Arzani is out of contract at the end of the season and would be available on a free transfer. New Jambos boss Derek McInnes has been busy bolstering his squad already and is keen to add depth to the winger position. Early last year, Arzani candidly opened up on his struggles in Scottish football. He revealed how his injury hell left him feeling like he "wasn't a footballer anymore." Arzani told A-League's All Access: "I was just in the gym and in the physio room so I didn't see the pitch for like five months. "I'm all the way on the other side of the world. I'm 19, I've moved here to play football. It's all I've done my whole life and I'm not getting a chance to do it all. "You see your friends, they're going out on the pitch every day. They're playing, they're playing well and you see everyone succeed and you're not even getting a chance. "I had a couple of unsuccessful loan moves and things weren't going to plan. I just felt like I was beating my head against a brick wall because I was working so hard to make things happen but it just wasn't falling into place." 3 Keep up to date with ALL the latest news and transfers at the Scottish Sun football page

'Intellectual' Martin would be 'very good' for Rangers, says Gunn
Scotland goalkeeper Angus Gunn says Russell Martin would be a "very good" choice as Rangers' new head witnessed the former Scotland defender's leadership qualities during their stint as team-mates at Norwich City in 2017 and believes he was unfortunate to be sacked by Southampton last season given the size of task promoted clubs face in the Premier 39, has been heavily linked as the favourite to replace Philippe Clement at Ibrox."Obviously, I've only worked with him as a player at Norwich. Very intellectual guy. I went in there as a young goalkeeper and he helped me massively even though he wasn't in the team every week and playing regularly," said Gunn."He was the captain of the club and he had good relationships with everyone in the dressing room and it's obviously watching what he has done at Southampton."I thought he did incredibly well there and probably was unfortunate to lose his job there because it was always difficult for teams coming up from the Championship to even compete with some of the Premier League teams."I watch him now on the TV and the way he wants to play and his philosophy and I really hope whatever he goes on to in his career is successful."I don't know if he is going to Rangers or not but obviously he had a spell there as well so he knows the club a little bit. I think it would be a very good thing for Rangers, to be fair."

Russell Martin looks set to win race to become new Rangers head coach
The former Rangers and Scotland defender was reported to be finalising personal terms after accepting the position, which became vacant in February when Philippe Clement was sacked. The apparently imminent appointment is the latest in a series of major developments at Ibrox. An American consortium led by Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises secured a majority shareholding on Friday and new sporting director Kevin Thelwell officially began work on Monday. Russell Martin played for Rangers (Jeff Holmes/PA) Thelwell stated on his first day that the recruitment of a new head coach would come to a conclusion 'in the coming days'. Outgoing Real Madrid assistant manager Davide Ancelotti and former Rangers boss Steven Gerrard – who reportedly pulled out of the running – were also among the leading candidates. Martin has been without a club since being sacked by Southampton in December after a 5-0 home defeat to Tottenham left Saints bottom of the Premier League on five points after 16 matches. The 39-year-old had secured promotion in his first season in charge thanks to a Championship play-off final win against Leeds. The ex-Peterborough and Norwich captain began his managerial career in November 2019 when he stepped up from MK Dons' playing squad to take charge of his team. We can confirm that we have taken the difficult decision to part ways with our Men's First Team Manager, Russell Martin. — Southampton FC (@SouthamptonFC) December 15, 2024 Martin steered the Dons clear of relegation danger before the pandemic struck and his side finished 13th in Sky Bet League One in what proved to be his only full campaign in charge. Martin moved to Swansea in August 2021 after the Welsh club made an official approach to MK Dons on the eve of their season opener, leading them to 15th and then 10th-placed finishes in the Championship before moving to Southampton. Martin's firm commitment to possession-based football drew some criticism as Saints struggled in the top flight and he defended his approach days before the fateful meeting with Ange Postecoglou's Spurs side. 'I get criticised for the same thing (as Postecoglou),' said Martin. 'About being stubborn and all that stuff. But if you believe in something and it's taken you a certain way in life then to deviate too far from that is crazy. Philippe Clement was sacked by Rangers in February (Steve Welsh/PA) 'I can't speak for him but we are also adapting. We adapt shape, approach, personnel, but with the same consistency about what is important for us, with the same concept of the game. We can't deviate too far from that otherwise we become nothing, really.' Martin now looks set to take his principles up against another purveyor of possession-based football and one of his predecessors as Swansea manager, Brendan Rodgers, whose Celtic side recently won their 13th title in 14 years. Although Rangers have only won three major trophies since emerging from the Ibrox liquidation crisis of 2012, Martin will have a good grasp of the fans' demands and expectations, which have been raised by the takeover and the promise of a £20million investment in the playing side. Martin spent the second half of the 2017-18 season on loan from Norwich at Rangers, playing under caretaker managers Graeme Murty and then Jimmy Nicholl. His appearances included a 4-0 Scottish Cup semi-final defeat and 5-0 loss against a Rodgers-led Celtic side as Rangers finished third in the Premiership.
