Raft of Hollywood stars set to light up Glasgow Film Festival
James McAvoy, Jessica Lange and Ed Harris are among the stars set to tread the red carpet at the 2025 Glasgow Film Festival (GFF) which begins later this month.
The festival organisers have announced a raft of big-name attendees at the 2025 festival, which is to play host to 13 world and European premieres, 66 UK premieres and 12 Scottish premieres from 38 countries.
Pulp Fiction star Tim Roth, Japanese model, musician and actor Koki, Shogun star Takehiro Hira and Edinburgh director John Maclean will be attending the world premiere of their new survival thriller Tornado.
Hollywood legends Ed Harris and Jessica Lange will be at the UK premiere of Long Day's Journey Into Night, the new big-screen adaptation of Eugene O'Neill's seminal American play.
Lange will also appear in a special In Conversation event where she will reflect on her six-decade-long screen career, from King Kong and Tootsie to Rob Roy and American Horror Story.
Meanwhile, Formula One champion Damon Hill will attend the world premiere of the new documentary Hill, about Damon and his father Graham, who died in a plane crash when his son was 15.
A host of homegrown stars are also set to light up the 21st edition of the event, which has established a reputation as one of the UK's leading film festivals.
James McAvoy will introduce a special screening of his breakthrough role in 2006 film The Last King Of Scotland, while 1917 actor George MacKay returns to the festival with the Scottish premiere of the post-apocalyptic musical The End.
Meanwhile, Line of Duty star Martin Compston will be joined by James Cosmo and Solly McLeod at the world premiere of the first episode of new Amazon Studios-produced thriller Fear, which was shot in Glasgow's West End.
The festival is also set to welcome a host of famous names from behind the camera.
Among them filmmaker Athina Rachel Tsangari, who will attend the Scottish premiere of her Scottish folk horror Harvest, and The Greasy Strangler auteur Jim Hosking, who will be at the UK premiere of his new feature Ebony & Ivory.
Edinburgh-based filmmaker Laura Carreira will attend the Scottish premiere of her Edinburgh and Glasgow-shot drama On Falling, while Daniel Hoesl and Julia Niemann will attend the UK premiere of their bloodthirsty social satire Veni Vedi Vici.
The 2025 GFF runs at the Glasgow Film Theatre (GFT) and venues across the city from February 26 to March 9.

'Being asked to tour Hungary as part of a Scottish contingent for the British Arts Council in 1996,' she says, 'and performing as part of a Creeping Bent Organisation label night at John Peel's Meltdown in 1998.' 'At the first, the audiences were pretty hard core, which The Seret Goldfish definitely is not. The trip is immortalised in the song 4 Excited People." She adds: 'The second was a spectacular night, which included performances by Adventures in Stereo, The Leopards and a brief appearance by Vic Godard, and it was brilliantly compered by the much missed poet, Jock Scot.' The Secret Goldfish will be launching their fourth album, Empty Holster, at a special showcase on June 21 in Glasgow's Glad Café. Ex-Orange Juice guitarist James Kirk will be performing with the band and The Cords will be appearing as special guests. The Secret Goldfish BBC presenter Nicola Meighan will be interviewing Katy about 30 years of The Secret Goldfish, her early music career with the Fizzbombs, and her memoir of music and family, Matilda in the Middle. Nicola will also be interviewing Katy's husband, the musician and songwriter Douglas MacIntyre, about three decades of running The Creeping Bent Organisation record label, which is closing down at the end of the year. The album tracks have been recorded sporadically over recent decades and were finally completed at Green Door studio in Glasgow and mastered by Samuel Joseph Smith. 'Why now? Well, this is the final year of operation for CBO and I am someone who needs a deadline,' she laughs. 'I guess the planets have just aligned and this is its moment.' It is a record of covers – Holiday Hymn by Subway Sect's Vic Godard, Get on Board by James Kirk and tracks by The Shop Assistants and The Beach Boys – and collaborations, including Adventures in Stereo's Jim Beattie and Davy Henderson of Fire Engines and The Sexual Objects fame. It includes an impressive array of musical guest appearances, including Mick Slaven of The Bluebells, Campbell Owens of Aztec Camera, Francis Macdonald of Teenage Fanclub and Katy and Douglas's daughter Amelia Lironi, of up-and-coming funk-popsters QUAD90. 'Louche Life is a song we wrote with James Kirk and it seemed to fit with the overall spirit of collaboration of the album,' she explains. 'I love working with James because you never quite know what direction he'll take or what lyrics he'll sing. 'We appeared on Marc Riley's 6 Music show a few years ago and James rewrote a whole load of lyrics in the car on the way down to Manchester for the session.' Katy adds: 'Collaboration is the root of all the very best creativity and it also brings out the best in us. 'To have my absolutely favourite songwriters and artists on this album is magical - perfectly topped off by singing in tandem with my daughter Amelia, who was still space-dust when the earliest songs on the album were initially recorded. 'It's fairly surreal.' Katy's book, Matilda in the Middle, is a memoir of music and family. 'Bringing out the book has been a highlight of the last year for me and being able to take it to so many festivals has been an amazing experience. 'I've really enjoyed introducing the audiences to Choir 21, the Makaton choir of teens and adults with Ds that I run in my role with Downs syndrome Scotland. 'We took a small contingent from Choir 21 down to the DSS garden at the Chelsea flower show last month. 'We performed an original song, Our Chelsea Anthem, co-written with Douglas and Ken McCluskey of The Bluebells, who are our patrons.' She adds, smiling: 'It was an amazing experience for our young people and Chelsea didn't know what had hit it.' The release of the Empty Holster does not mark the end of The Secret Goldfish – far from it, says Katy. 'There's always another album in the making,' she says. 'And we are always open to touring. However, the tide might be turning, as there are now rumours swirling that Lady Gaga could be coming to Hong Kong next year. Back in March, Mother Monster announced her upcoming eighth concert tour 'The Mayhem Ball' which is set to commence on July 16. The plan was for the concert to travel across North American, European, and Australian cities, but on June 10, Lady Gaga also announced five dates for Japan, running from January 21 to 29 in Osaka and Tokyo. The plot twist here is that the Lady Gaga news fan account @MayhemBallTour on X had previously already proclaimed on April 9 that the artist will have Tokyo dates. When asked for hints on the whole Asia leg of the tour, they posted emoji flags of Japan, South Korea, and Hong Kong – so we're keeping our fingers crossed that we'll actually get Gaga in Kai Tak Stadium or AsiaWorld-Expo come 2026! Interestingly, Hong Kong singer Joey Yung went to Lady Gaga's recent 'The Art of Personal Chaos' concert in Singapore recently and posted on Instagram in Chinese that she 'hopes she'll be able to enjoy it again in Kai Tak'. These industry insiders know something we don't… If the online rumours are anything to go by, Lady Gaga might be putting on three Hong Kong shows in February 2026.
