Humble beginnings and film aspirations

His early career was shaped under the mentorship of the legendary filmmaker Balu Mahendra, where Vikram worked as an assistant and contributed to several short films around 1999-2000. He was also involved in projects like 'Julie Ganapathy' during this formative period.
Acting debut and film appearances
As an actor, Vikram made his debut in the critically acclaimed 'Polladhavan', directed by Vetrimaaran, and later appeared in Sasikumar's 'Kodiveeran'. However, his true calling was behind the camera, where he made a mark with his directorial debut 'Madha Yaanaik Koottam' in 2013. The film, set in a rural backdrop, was praised for its raw and realistic portrayal of village life, earning Vikram recognition for his storytelling skills.
After a hiatus, Vikram returned to directing with 'Ravana Kottam' in 2023, featuring a strong cast including Shanthanu, Anandhi, Prabhu, and Ilavarasu. His last project, 'Therum Borum', was said to be related to climbing and mountaineering.

Netflix's 'The Royals' actress Nora Fatehi on stepping into Tamil cinema with 'Kanchana 4': 'When the film was offered to me...'

With experience in Malayalam and Telugu industries too, Nora reflects on the differences she's noticed. 'Every industry has its own flavour. Tamil cinema is very rooted in storytelling.' Nora Fatehi is stepping into Tamil cinema with a bang as she headlines Kanchana 4, the much-awaited fourth installment of the popular horror-comedy franchise. Already riding high on the success of her latest song Oh Mama! Tetema, Nora is embracing this new phase of her career with enthusiasm. Talking to a leading publication, about why she chose Kanchana 4, the actor shares, 'When Kanchana 4 was offered to me, I immediately felt it was the right project to step into Tamil cinema. The franchise already has such a strong legacy, and the script was so unique that I wanted to be part of it. I was looking to be a part of another comedy after the success of Madgaon Express.' STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Language has been a challenge, but Nora isn't one to shy away from experiments. 'Of course language is always a challenge, but I love challenges, I've had to adapt to Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam before, and now Tamil. It's definitely the hardest so far but I spend extra hours rehearsing my lines and working on the pronunciation,' she explains. What has kept her motivated is the encouragement she's received on set. 'The nicest thing has been the crew telling me they didn't expect me to be so natural in the comic bits. That kind of feedback really keeps me going. And I feel it's about respecting the culture, the language, and giving your best,' says Nora, who has earlier acted in films like Be Happy. With experience in Malayalam and Telugu industries too, Nora reflects on the differences she's noticed. 'Every industry has its own flavour. Tamil cinema is very rooted in storytelling, and there's a lot of emphasis on performance and strong scripts. Bollywood, on the other hand, has its own larger-than-life energy. Both industries are passionate about cinema, but the styles of working, the audience expectations, and even the filmmaking processes feel slightly different. For me, it's exciting to experience and learn from both worlds.'

Coolie Box Office Collection Day 7: Rajinikanth's Coolie witnessed a fading buzz over the long Independence Day weekend, and by the end of Day 7, it could only reach close to the ₹ 220 crore mark. The Rajinikanth movie, released on August 14 to mark the superstar's 50th year in the industry, enjoyed a record-breaking opening at the Indian box office but has since experienced a slowdown. Coolie's earnings dropped massively by 65.96% on Monday and another 20.83% on Tuesday. The numbers for Wednesday, Day 7, are not as great either. According to early estimates of industry tracker Sacnilk, Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, earned just ₹ 2.71 crore on Wednesday until 5:00 PM. On Tuesday, the movie saw its first single-digit collection since its release, ₹ 9.5 crore, of which ₹ 5.65 from its Tamil variant. With this, Coolie's 7-day total stands at ₹ 218.71 crore. The total earnings will be revised later in the evening, once the figures for the evening and night show are declared. The movie has been released in five languages: Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Malayalam, and Kannada, boosting a pan-India appeal. Coolie had an overall 17.43% Tamil occupancy on Wednesday: Coolie had an overall 8.87% Hindi occupancy on Wednesday: Coolie, the biggest Indian opener of 2025 at the worldwide box office, earned a gross of ₹ 418 crore globally on Day 6. Of this, the movie minted ₹ 162.2 crore overseas, while its India gross was ₹ 255.8 crore. According to the moviemakers, Coolie raked in ₹ 404 crore gross in 4 days, and touted it to be the highest worldwide gross collection in the Tamil film industry. However, Sacnilk numbers showed that the movie only crossed the milestone on Day 5. Sacnilk said Coolie became the first Tamil movie to cross the Rs150 crore worldwide mark on its opening day, cementing its place in cinematic history. Coolie's Day 7 global earnings will be published tomorrow, Thursday. Rajinikanth's Coolie stars Nagarjuna, Upendra, Soubin Shahir, Sathyaraj, Shruti Haasan, Reba Monica John, Junior MGR, and Monisha Blessy.
