And though the award may only crown one, we pause to honour those who stood tall throughout the storm – players whose performances demanded applause, and whose names now rightfully enter the conversation for the PSL Player of the Year... Lucas Ribeiro Costa

The Brazilian playmaker was central to Mamelodi Sundowns' historic 18th league title, guiding the side to their eighth consecutive crown with elegance and purpose.
At 26, Ribeiro Costa made his presence felt not just with numbers – 16 goals and nine assists – but through leadership in the final third.
He consistently dictated play, linking up fluently with teammates, while showing sharp instincts and game intelligence.
Remarkably, he did so while staying clear of suspensions and injuries, underscoring his consistency and discipline.
It was a season that placed him firmly among the best in the land. Relebohile Mofokeng

A rising star whose name is already etched in the hearts of Orlando Pirates fans, Mofokeng lit up the season with flair and fearlessness.
His creativity, dribbling and composure under pressure made him a nightmare for defenders and a joy for spectators.
Mofokeng played a pivotal role in pushing Pirates to a second-place finish, and was influential in many key moments.
His meteoric rise has already sparked comparisons to some of South Africa's greats, and his inclusion among the top performers this season is richly deserved. Devin Titus

Often working away from the spotlight, Titus delivered yet another season of consistent excellence for Stellenbosch FC.
The 24-year-old winger featured in every league game, providing eight goals and five assists in a campaign that saw Stellies continue to overachieve.
Despite the club's modest resources, Titus' work ethic and attacking output were crucial as they secured another impressive finish.
His growth and maturity reflect a player who leads by example, and his reliability cannot be overstated. Iqraam Rayners
MAMELODI Sundowns striker Iqraam Rayners continues to add his name to the history of the club. Photo: BackpagePix

Rayners proved once again why he's one of the PSL's most reliable goal-getters. The striker finished with 14 goals – second only in the Golden Boot race to Ribeiro Costa (16) – while also supplying nine assists, showcasing the growth to his game.
His transition to Sundowns after joining at the start of the season was seamless, and his all-round contribution in the final third made him a constant threat.
With both finishing and playmaking in his locker, Rayners is a strong candidate for top honours. Keletso Makgalwa

Chippa United's Sinethemba Badela faces uncertain future ahead of TS Galaxy clash
Chippa United coach Sinethemba Badela. Photo: Backpagepix Image: Backpagepix Will Sinethemba Badela be in the dugout? That's the question on everybody's lips ahead of Chippa United's clash with TS Galaxy on Tuesday. Chippa will host Galaxy at Buffalo City Municipality Stadium in Mdantsane, amid uncertainty surrounding the future of Badela. The 35-year-old coach is said to have fallen out of favour with Chippa's sporting director, Sinesipho Mali, after they failed to see eye to eye on certain issues. The conflicts reportedly include the vision and direction of the club in the near and long-term future, as mandated by chairman Siviwe Mpengesi. According to reports, the drift between Badela and Mali began during pre-season, with Badela even lucky to start the campaign with the Gqeberha-based side. Badela's team began the season on a decent note, holding champions Mamelodi Sundowns to a 1-1 draw before losing 1-0 to Durban City. The loss to City may have intensified the pressure, as expectations are high for Badela to ensure that the team finishes in the Top 8 this season. Mpengesi's reputation for being trigger-happy may not help Badela's cause either, which is why his situation will be monitored closely on Tuesday night. The turmoil within the Chippa camp might offer Galaxy a chance to redeem themselves, having lost all three matches since the start of the season. Coach Adnan Beganovic has struggled to get results due to the departure of key players and an inability to strengthen the squad because of a Fifa ban. As a result, Galaxy have embarrassingly had only five substitutes on the bench in all three matches, giving Beganovic limited options to bring on impact players. Video Player is loading. 'There was Nkota, now there's Sebelebele' – Ex-Pirates striker
Former Orlando Pirates striker Phumudzo Manenzhe has explained what makes new signing Kamogelo Sebelebele a good player. The 23-year-old scored his debut goal for the Buccaneers against Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 semi-final match at Orlando Stadium. The speedy player scored a late equaliser to earn his side a 1-1 draw in the first leg on Saturday. Manenzhe feels Sebelebele will be a perfect replacement for Mohau Nkota. 'He is a technically gifted player, you know. But what does he bring? He brings aggression, speed, and also the hunger to ask for the ball from behind,' Manenzhe told SuperSport TV . 'So, that is exactly how Orlando Pirates scored the goal [against Sundowns], with Sebelebele asking for the ball from behind. 'He is an out-and-out right winger. In the previous season, they had Mohau Nkota, who is left-footed, playing on the right, but this time they have an out-and-out right-footer on the right-hand side. When he receives the ball, there is no need to turn back to his stronger foot. 'He faced Ronwen Williams and became resourceful, putting the ball in the back of the net,' Manenzhe said. Sebelebele's performance has made him a fan favourite at Orlando Pirates. His energy, runs and aggression have been praised following his solid showing. Will Sebelebele maintain his form? Chelsea draw blank in Crystal Palace stalemate
LONDON - Chelsea suffered a Club World Cup hangover as they were lucky to escape with a 0-0 draw against Crystal Palace to open their Premier League campaign on Sunday. Palace were denied an early opener when Eberechi Eze's free-kick was ruled out by a VAR review for Marc Guehi obstructing the Chelsea wall. New Chelsea signing Estevao came closest to snatching a winner for the home side, but the newly-crowned world champions were blunt in attack against a well-organised Palace defence. The Eagles key duo of Guehi and Eze started despite mounting speculation the England internationals are set to join Liverpool and Tottenham, respectively. "As long as they are 100 percent committed, they will play as they are so good," said Palace boss Oliver Glasner. "They didn't just show they are great footballers, but they are great persons and that's what I expected." Eze thought he had opened the scoring with a blistering free-kick that had too much power for Robert Sanchez. The goal was disallowed for Guehi's role in creating a gap by man-handling Moises Caicedo into the Chelsea wall. Chelsea's demolition of European champions Paris Saint-Germain in the Club World Cup final last month had raised the Blues' hopes they can challenge for a first Premier League title since 2017. But Enzo Maresca bemoaned his side's lack of preparation time since beating PSG in New York just 35 days ago. "They played about eight (pre-season) games, we played just two so we tried our best," said the Italian. "We expected a tough game. Apart from the first half free-kick, we didn't concede any chances." Estevao scored against Chelsea at the Club World Cup in his final game for Palmeiras. The Brazilian has been hyped as one of the world's brightest young talents but lacked the composure to finish when he sliced high and wide from the middle of the box. Nottingham Forest made light of manager Nuno Espirito Santo's pre-season fears over a lack of signings with a dominant 3-1 win over a much-changed Brentford. Chris Wood struck twice either side of Dan Ndyoe's debut goal for Forest on a nightmare afternoon for new Brentford boss Keith Andrews. "It was a very good first half. The combinations were really good, beautiful goals," said Nuno. "This is why we are insisting on a good balanced squad that gives us options and solutions." The Bees have lost their manager, captain and top scorer in the off-season. Thomas Frank left to take charge of Tottenham, Bryan Mbeumo got his dream move to Manchester United and Arsenal secured Christian Norgaard. Yoane Wissa was also missing from the Brentford squad ahead of an expected move to Newcastle. Igor Thiago's first goal for the club from the penalty spot late on was the only consolation for the visitors. "I do have genuine belief but we have to take responsibility for a first half that wasn't good enough," said Andrews. kca/pb/nf
