PSL transfer news: Mokoena, Lucas Ribeiro, Mayele, Mofokeng

Mamelodi Sundowns are favourites to claim their eighth successive PSL title but will need to tread lightly with Orlando Pirates not far behind. The Soweto giants, nine points back with two games in hand, can close the gap to three if they take advantage of their extra fixtures. A slip-up from the Tshwane giants could be enough to end to open the door for the Buccaneers. Sundowns star Teboho Mokoena is reportedly garnering interest from an unnamed club in France. Insiders say multiple foreign suitors are monitoring the three-time PSL winner. Lucas Ribeiro Costa is another Brazilian attracting eyes overseas. The Brazilian is the frontrunner for PSL Player of the Year. Kaizer Chiefs' long-term target Fiston Mayele has been offered a two-year extension from current club Pyramids FC, potentially derailing AmaKhosi's negotiations with the 30-year-old. Relebohile Mofokeng is expected to receive several offers in the offseason. Orlando Pirates will struggle to keep their man. 'They [Pyramids] are doing everything to keep him [Mayele]. They know there is interest not just from Kaizer Chiefs but other clubs as well and they want to make sure they keep him. So they have offered him a new two-year contract which increases his value as well,' Soccer Laduma reported. 'They are doing everything to keep him. Orlando Pirates could potentially lose star player Maswanganyi

Orlando Pirates could potentially lose star player Patrick Maswanganyi in the next transfer window. The Bucs supporters might have to brace themselves for a massive blow. Maswanganyi, the club's talisman and reigning PSL Player of the Year, looks set to make a sensational return to Europe. Maswanganyi spent much of his youth career in Portugal, developing his talent with UD Oliveirense and Académica de Coimbra. Now, he wants to finish what he started, by conquering European football in his prime. Farouk Khan, Maswanganyi's former mentor at Stars of Africa, ignited transfer rumors earlier this season when he boldly stated: 'He [Maswanganyi] is ready for Europe. Even as a player, he really wants to play there. You know if Orlando Pirates can allow him to go then it won't benefit only Pirates from the sale but also the player himself and the country.' Khan believes the playmaker missed his earlier chance due to impatience but insists the window is still wide open. 'He could have stayed longer in Portugal… But nothing is lost. He can still go now and make it big.' Reports suggest that UD Oliveirense—Maswanganyi's former club—has already entered advanced talks with Orlando Pirates. A source close to the deal revealed in January: 'It's no longer just about an inquiry, it's about negotiations now… They really want him back in Portugal.' The Portuguese outfit reportedly values the 27-year-old at R40 million, and they're pushing hard to bring him back. The source added. 'The only issue that is there now is the R40 million that the club has put on Maswanganyi's head… Since they are believed to have opened up negotiations then it will all depend on their offer that they table to Pirates.' Fueling exit rumours even further, Maswanganyi, affectionately known as 'Tito', has not featured in Orlando Pirates' last two starting eleven line-ups. He watched from the bench as the Buccaneers suffered back-to-back defeats against Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League and Sekhukhune United in the league. Frustrated fans and pundits alike are raising eyebrows. One source exclaimed. 'Why is Tito not starting? Is he still injured? No. Crucial games against Pyramids and Sekhukhune United, which they both lost. Something is going on there… You leaving your best players on the bench, why?' Maswanganyi's future now hangs in the balance. Will Orlando Pirates let him chase his European dream, or will they demand more than Oliveirense can afford? One thing is clear, the football world is watching, and Tito's next move could shake up Pirates future plans. Orlando Pirates walking on thin ice with Patrick Maswanganyi

There's a good chance Orlando Pirates will see Patrick Maswanganyi flock to Soweto this offseason. It's no secret that the reigning PSL Player of the Year wants to enjoy his prime years in Europe, where he enjoyed plenty of his youth career playing for UD Oliveirense and Academica de Coimbra. Earlier in the season, Maswanganyi's former Stars of Africa mentor, Farouk Khan, fuelled speculation of an offseason exit, saying, 'He [Maswanganyi] is ready for Europe. 'Even himself as a player, he really wants to play there. You know if Orlando Pirates can allow him to go then it won't benefit only Pirates from the sale but also the player himself and the country. He could have stayed longer in Portugal, but he was impatient that time, 'You know many players from Brazil, Argentina, and most other African countries use Portugal as a springboard to bigger leagues in Europe and he could have been patient then things could have worked out for him that time. But nothing is lost. He can still go now and make it big. He is ready for Europe.' According to reports, the Orlando Pirates star is being monitoring by former club Oliveirense, who are eyeing a R40 million bid for the 27-year-old. 'It's no longer just about an inquiry, it's about negotiations now,' a Siya source confirmed in January. 'They really want him back in Portugal. They are looking at the progress he has made, and they are happy to bring him back to Portugal. It will all depend on what Pirates are looking at or if UD Oliveirense can afford what Pirates will be asking for Maswanganyi.' 'The only issue that is there now is the R40 million that the club has put on Maswanganyi's head. You know he is one of the best players now in the country and if the club wants that amount then UD Oliveirense should meet or make it even better than that. But since they are believed to have opened up negotiations then it will all depend on their offer that they table to Pirates.'
