Singapore Pools rolls out new lottery game with fixed winnings June 12 to curb illegal gambling

Malay Mail04-06-2025

SINGAPORE, June 4 — Singapore-owned lottery company Singapore Pools will launch a new fixed-bet game called Toto Match with its first draw on June 12.
The game is being introduced in response to public demand for a fixed-payout model in the popular Toto lottery, according to several Singapore-based news agencies.
The company also hopes the new game will help deter gamblers from turning to illegal betting operators.
Sales for Toto Match will begin from June 10 at all Singapore Pools branches and authorised outlets.
Unlike the traditional Toto game which offers a jackpot prize, Toto Match pays out a fixed amount per dollar bet.
This means the higher your bet, the bigger your potential payout.
How it works
Punters can place bets under two types of games, and may choose to play either or both.
In the first game type, players select between two and four numbers from 1 to 49.
They win if all their selected numbers match the six winning numbers in the Toto draw.
For every S$1 bet, the payout is S$50 for two matched numbers, S$500 for three, and S$7,000 for four.
In the second game type, players pick one number from 1 to 49.
They win S$30 for every S$1 bet if their chosen number matches the additional number drawn in the Toto draw.
Only bets placed under Toto Match are eligible for the fixed payouts.
Regular Toto bets do not qualify for these prizes.

Big banks collaborate on Johor data centre deal

PETALING JAYA: United Overseas Bank (M) Bhd (UOB) has announced its role as joint coordinator, mandated lead arranger, underwriter, and bookrunner in one of South-East Asia's largest data centre financing deals. The landmark deal, which involves a dual currency loan of RM15bil, is also the largest syndicated green Islamic facility in Malaysia. DayOne Data Centres Singapore Pte Ltd announced yesterday it had closed a landmark RM15bil equivalent multi-currency financing arrangement comprising a RM7.5bil Murabahah Term Financing facility and a US$1.7bil offshore term loan facility. OCBC Bank (M) Bhd and its parent, Singapore-based Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp Ltd, is joint coordinator, mandated lead arranger, bookrunner, and green financing coordinator (MLAB), with OCBC Bank also serving as joint syariah adviser. The deal supports DayOne's data centre development in the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ). UOB arranged the financing in syndication, together with other banks. The financing involved CIMB Investment Bank Bhd, the Singapore arm of CIMB Bank Bhd, Credit Agricole CIB, DBS Bank Ltd, Maybank Investment Bank Bhd, Standard Chartered Bank (Singapore), United Overseas Bank Ltd, and UOB (M) Bhd as MLABs. UOB Malaysia chief executive officer Ng Wei Wei said the landmark transaction reflects the bank's commitment to supporting infrastructure projects that advance sustainable digital transformation across Asean. 'By jointly financing DayOne's data centre in the JS-SEZ, we are not only supporting Malaysia's digital economy but also strengthening the connectivity backbone that enables businesses from both sides of the Causeway to thrive in the digital age. 'We remain committed to the continuous support and development of the JS-SEZ as a strategic economic corridor that enhances regional connectivity and drives sustainable growth,' she said. Headquartered in Singapore, DayOne is a global leader in digital infrastructure, with a growing footprint across tier-one and emerging markets, including Singapore, Johor, Batam in Indonesia, Greater Bangkok, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and beyond. The financing facility enables DayOne to refinance existing loans while funding new data centre developments, creating a stable foundation for long-term growth and optimal capital allocation across their expanding regional portfolio. Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank) meanwhile said it is underwriting RM2.5bil to support DayOne Data Centres. The amount is one-third of the largest syndicated Islamic financing for data centres in the Asia Pacific. Maybank president and group chief executive officer Datuk Khairussaleh Ramli said the transaction represents Maybank's largest Islamic financing commitment to the data centre sector. Meanwhile, OCBC Bank said the dual-tranche financing – structured under the Green Loan Principles – will partially fund the refinancing and capital expenditure of DayOne's data centres in Johor. The data centres in Johor already meet or are expected to meet Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Gold or higher certification by the US Green Building Council, setting a new benchmark for sustainable digital infrastructure. OCBC Bank chief executive officer Tan Chor Sen said that, as one of the largest integrated financial services groups in the region, OCBC's regional strength enables it to support both the onshore and offshore tranches of this landmark syndication. 'As a key MLAB, we supported DayOne with one of the highest underwriting commitments, reflecting our commitment to fostering a sustainable future that aligns with our leadership in responsible finance,' Tan said

Singaporean to be charged today over viral Johor road rage incident

JOHOR BARU: A Singaporean man arrested over a road rage incident last Saturday, which was caught in a clip that went viral on social media, will be charged in the magistrate's court here today. The 40-year-old is expected to face charges under Section 426 of the Penal Code for mischief, which carries a penalty of up to three months' imprisonment, a fine, or both; and Section 509 for using words or gestures intended to insult another's modesty, an offence punishable by up to five years' jail, a fine, or both. Johor Baru (North) police chief Assistant Commissioner Balveer Singh confirmed that the man will be brought to court at 9am. He was arrested at 6.20pm on Sunday, less than 24 hours after the 31-year-old Malaysian BMW driver lodged a police report over the alleged road rage incident, which occurred near Taman Ungku Tun Aminah in Skudai at 2.39pm on June 7. The altercation reportedly began when the suspect, who was driving a Singapore-registered Toyota Altis, allegedly honked repeatedly and tailgated the BMW, seemingly upset about being obstructed. The confrontation escalated when the suspect allegedly exited his vehicle, kicked the BMW and verbally insulted the driver.

Let law run its course, says Ean Yong after Teoh's sister calls him out

Ean Yong Hian Wah said he shares the family's pain but will not respond to Facebook posts calling him out over his silence. (Facebook pic) PETALING JAYA : Former Selangor executive councillor Ean Yong Hian Wah has called for the legal process to take its course in the Teoh Beng Hock case, after being criticised by his late political aide's sister. Ean Yong said he shared the Teoh family's grief over the past 16 years and pledged to cooperate fully with police if any new evidence emerges. 'Through all the sadness, I urge that the law be allowed to run its course,' Oriental Daily quoted him as saying. 'I will not comment on the Facebook postings made by Teoh Lee Lan.' Lee Lan had taken to Facebook to express frustration that Ean Yong had yet to break his silence or take a clear stance, more than three weeks after the Attorney-General's Chambers classified the case as requiring no further action (NFA). She accused Ean Yong of avoiding responsibility, questioning why he did not ensure her brother had legal representation during his Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) interrogation or inform the family earlier about his detention. Teoh, a political aide to Ean Yong, died on July 16, 2009 on the fifth floor of Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam, after being questioned for hours at the Selangor MACC headquarters. An inquest into his death was held, and the coroner returned an open verdict. However, the Court of Appeal ruled in 2014 that Teoh's death was caused by 'one or more persons unknown', including MACC officers. In 2019, police launched an investigation under Section 342 of the Penal Code for wrongful confinement. Before 2018, two special investigation teams were set up – one in 2011 and the other in 2015 – to look into Teoh's death, but both cases were classified as NFA by the public prosecutor.
