Bryce Huff excited by trade to 49ers, 'wasn't a fit' with Eagles

"If I'm being 100% honest with you, I wanted a trade like fairly early on," Huff said in a July 1 appearance on the "The SFNiners" podcast. "And just 'cause of how things went in Philly, I knew pretty early on it wasn't a fit."
Huff was coming off a 10.5-sack season with the New York Jets and had signed a three-year, $51 million contract with the Eagles after the trade was completed. That put expectations "at an all-time high" for the former undrafted free agent's first season in Philadelphia.
Huff struggled to meet those expectations. He logged just 2.5 sacks across 12 regular-season games while missing five because of a torn ligament in his wrist. He didn't log a sack or tackle in two postseason games before being inactive for Super Bowl 59.
"There's a plethora of things that went down. I don't wanna get into specifics," Huff said, addressing his season with the Eagles. "Being in the league for five years, I kinda knew what it felt like for me to be in a good situation."
Still, Huff knew he wasn't likely to get a change of scenery during the 2024 NFL season, especially after the Eagles gave him a deal worth $17 million in average annual value (AAV).
"I knew a trade wasn't going to happen during the season, but I just talked to my agent about it," Huff said. "I was like, 'Yeah, when it's all said and done, I might need to step, just to put myself in the best position to ball out and have a fruitful career.'"

Huff believes he can achieve that after being traded to the 49ers during the offseason. He has expressed excitement about reuniting with Robert Saleh, who oversaw his career-best seasons with the Jets and now serves as the 49ers defensive coordinator.
"Coach Saleh did a great job lining all that up for us in New York, and I saw a lot of guys elevate themselves throughout my three years with them," Huff told Graham. "So, I'm extremely excited to be back here in San Fran. I know last year wasn't my best season at all in Philly, and I had a lot of stuff going down, but one thing led to another, and I got that call from my agent when the trade window opened up and I was on a plane to Santa Clara. So, I'm extremely excited to be here.
"I've been here working with the same staff that took me from a basic player to like top of the league in pressure rate, top of the league in win rate, sacks, and whatnot," he added. "I've been here putting in the same work that I put in all those years this summer, and I'm gonna be here until the first day of camp. So I'm excited to see how everything plays out this year with being back in Coach Saleh's scheme and being back with this performance staff."

Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi make transfer decisions amid Arsenal and Liverpool interest

FA Cup holders Crystal Palace have plenty of interests in a couple of their stars ahead of the new season but it appears that the Eagles could actually end up keeping them Eberechi Eze and Marc Guehi have not ruled out staying at Crystal Palace despite interest from Arsenal and Liverpool. The Eagles pair were expected to be on the move this summer after the club lifted the FA Cup last season. ‌ Arsenal were eyeing the England winger as a potential wide recruit despite the signing of Noni Madueke from Chelsea. Meanwhile, Liverpool put Guehi on their shortlist as a potential replacement for Jarell Quansah - who completed a £35m move to German side Bayer Leverkusen earlier this summer. ‌ Despite the pair having suitors, it is not guaranteed that they depart. According to The Sun, Palace have not received any firm offers for either Eze or Guehi and they are in no rush to cash in on either. ‌ Guehi has just a year remaining on his contract at Selhurst Park and it looks more likely that he could leave for free in just 12 months' time. And should he do that, it could potentially open the door to moves to Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid. In the meantime, Eze could also remain in South London despite Arsenal's interest. The wide man is interested in a move to the Emirates but the Gunners are not yet prepared to activate his £68m release clause, which could see them move onto alternative targets. Fresh developments over Eze and Guehi's stances are at odds with chairman Steve Parish's approach last summer after he claimed he was shocked that Eze remained. He also underlined his willingness to do business with the Premier League 's big hitters. "I was really worried from a club point of view of losing Michael and Ebbs in the same window and we didn't have in Ebbs the interest that I thought we would have," Parish told Sky Sports News. "I was astounded. Genuinely astounded. I mean, the guy's just an outstanding footballer, an outstanding person.' ‌ He added: 'We want to be selling to the top clubs, or to clubs like Newcastle who've got great aspirations and have recently been in the Champions League. "So we have to manage all of those things. We won't get really great young talent to come to us if they think they're going to be stuck." "We want to be playing in the Champions League,' Parish said. 'The reality is we don't right now. That's what players want to achieve in their career and we respect that and we respect the fact that sometimes we're going to be a pathway to that." Eagles Super Bowl winner Saquon Barkley reveals he snubbed offer to join Donald Trump council

Saquon Barkley rejected Donald Trump 's invitation to join his council on sports, fitness and nutrition, with the Eagles star admitting he was 'shocked' to be namechecked by the president. Trump last week invited a number of sports stars - including golfer Bryson DeChambeau and Chiefs kicker Harrison Butker - to the White House as he signed an executive order to reestablish the Presidential Fitness Test. It also 'revitalizes' a national sports council stacked with sports legends including Jack Nicklaus, Gary Player, hockey icon Wayne Gretzky and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. Barkley was among those named by Trump but the running back has now revealed that he turned down the president's offer. 'I was definitely a little shocked when my name was mentioned. I'm assuming it's something great, so I appreciate it but was a little shocked when my name was mentioned,' Barkley said on Monday, per ESPN. 'A couple months ago, it was brought to my team about the council... (but) I felt like I am going to be super busy, so me and my family thought it would probably be of best interest to not accept that.' In April, Barkley visited the White House with the Eagles on the back of their Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The running back had earlier spent time with Trump at the president's golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, before flying back to Washington on Marine One. Barkley also spent time with Trump's family this spring, posing for pictures with Trump's daughter, Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kushner at the JP Morgan tech 100 summit. There will be up to 30 council members, with Nick Bosa, Tua Tagovailoa and Butker among the current NFL players set to serve. The group will be tasked with advising the president and working on measures such as fitness goals for America's youth. The Presidential Fitness Test, a fixture of public schools for decades, gauged young people's health and athleticism with one-mile runs, sit-ups and stretching exercises. 'This is a wonderful tradition, and we're bringing it back," Trump said of the fitness test that began in 1966 but was phased out during the Obama administration.

Newcastle to revive Marc Guehi transfer bid but are £10million off Crystal Palace's valuation for defender

However, the Toon are £10million short of Crystal Palace's valuation, according to reports. 3 Newcastle are set to launch another transfer bid for Marc Guehi Credit: Getty 3 Guehi helped Crystal Palace win the FA Cup and qualify for Europe in the process Credit: Getty The Times claims the Eagles are holding out for £50m for their star centre-back. Guehi has just one year left to run on his contract. And SunSport understands the defender may well stay at the club - along with Eberechi Eze - this summer, in spite of being in demand. Newcastle had three bids for Guehi rejected last year, while Tottenham saw a £70m offer turned down in January - months before the Eagles won the FA Cup. READ MORE SPORT STORIES SES PLEASE Benjamin Sesko 'tells both Man Utd and Newcastle he only wants them' Liverpool were believed to be leading the race to sign Guehi this summer as part of their major spending spree to bolster their defence, particularly with Real Madrid sniffing around Ibrahima Konate. The Reds also value Guehi at around £40m, given the length of time left on his contract. But Newcastle's interest suggests they may have leapfrogged the Reds in the hunt for the in-demand defender. The Magpies welcomed Alexander Isak back on Monday after he trained at former club Real Sociedad after attempting to force a move to Liverpool. The Swedish striker has agreed personal terms with the Reds, but Newcastle rejected a £110m bid. Isak spent three hours at the training ground before leaving, as he recovers from his injury. 3 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW With Isak expected to leave, the arrival of Guehi to shore up the other end would be a major coup. But SunSport can reveal both Guehi and Arsenal target Eze are potentially set to spend 2025-26 in South London. The Gunners are seemingly unwilling to trigger the England midfielder's £68m release clause. With Palace not needing to sell financially, they are unlikely to lower their demands and Arsenal could look at other targets. The Eagles have not received any firm offers for either player and are in no rush to sell. This is good news for the club's fans who are still reeling from their European heartbreak and the fact they look set to be demoted into the Conference League. The club's fans are still stunned at Uefa's decision having qualifed for the Europa League after winning the FA Cup. Palace's appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) will be on Friday. They were demoted to the third-tier Conference League by Uefa's Club Financial Control Body in a multi-club ownership case. As things stand, they are set to play the loser of Midtjylland vs Fredrikstad in their Conference League play-off.
