The new stablecoin will revolutionize the ease of making payments and doing business, both locally and globally, putting the UAE at the forefront of global blockchain innovation as a leading fintech hub, while strengthening UAE's digital infrastructure.
The stablecoin backed by Dirhams () is designed to enable payment for the world where identity, governance and value flow freely, securely, and verifiably.
This stablecoin will be used as a reliable digital currency across a wide range of everyday scenarios - by citizens and consumers, businesses and institutions. It will also support emerging digital use cases such as machine-to-machine and AI.
The new stablecoin will operate on the ADI blockchain, a cutting-edge technology developed in the UAE by the ADI Foundation, which will provide a compliant distribution network for blockchain payments. Abu Dhabi's IRH acquires majority stake in Congo's tin producer for $367 million

International Resources Holding (IRH), a unit of International Holding Company (IHC), has entered into a definitive agreement to buy a majority stake in the Democratic Republic of Congo's tin producer Alphamin Resources for $367 million as the Abu Dhabi-based company continues to expand its presence in Africa. As part of the agreement, IRH, through a wholly owned subsidiary, acquired a 56 per cent stake in Alphamin from Tremont Master Holdings, paying C$0.70 per share, or about $367 million, the two companies said in a statement on Wednesday. Alphamin, which is listed on Canada's TSX Venture Exchange and the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, is one of the world's largest producers of tin that is used in electronics, manufacturing, and industrial applications. 'This acquisition strengthens IRH's position in the global industrial metals sector, adding a majority interest in a highly productive and strategically important tin asset to its portfolio,' the companies said. IRH is part of 2PointZero, which was set up by IHC last year, with more than Dh100 billion ($27.2 billion) in assets. The company has been expanding its operations globally, with a focus on energy transition minerals and resources such as copper, cobalt, nickel, lithium, 3T (tin, tantalum and tungsten), manganese and graphite. Last year, IRH completed the acquisition of Mopani Copper Mines in Zambia, to expand its operations in the mining sector, for $1.1 billion. It also signed a joint venture agreement for mineral exploration ion Balochistan province of Pakistan in March. Its other agreements include a collaboration with South Africa's Public Investment Corporation, with a focus on unlocking value across the mining, green energy and transport and logistics sectors. "Alphamin's strong production profile aligns with our strategy of securing interests in high-quality mining assets with long-term growth potential,' Ali Alrashdi, chief executive of IRH, said. IHC, the largest listed company in the UAE, is on an acquisition spree. The conglomerate aims to double its asset base to Dh800 billion and hit the Dh200 billion annual revenue mark by the end of the decade, its chief executive Syed Basar Shueb told The National in an interview last month. The UAE, the Arab world's second-largest economy, accounts for 60 per cent of IHC's Dh416.5 billion asset base as of the first quarter this year, while the rest is spread across the region and the markets beyond.

FAB Share Sale Draws Strong Demand Amid Strategic Expansion

Arabian Post Staff -Dubai First Abu Dhabi Bank , the largest lender in the United Arab Emirates by assets, is set to raise approximately $480 million through a secondary share offering. The transaction involves the sale of around 113 million shares at a fixed price of 15.5 dirhams per share, representing a 3.7% discount to the bank's closing price of 16.1 dirhams on the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange. Citi, acting as the bookrunner, confirmed that the offering was fully subscribed, with demand surpassing the number of shares available. The identity of the selling shareholder remains undisclosed. FAB's largest stakeholder is Mubadala Investment Company, Abu Dhabi's sovereign wealth fund, which manages assets exceeding $330 billion. As of the end of March, FAB reported total assets of 1.31 trillion dirhams, underscoring its dominant position in the region's banking sector. ADVERTISEMENT The oversubscription of the share sale indicates robust investor confidence in FAB's financial health and strategic direction. The bank has been actively pursuing growth opportunities beyond the Gulf region. Two years ago, FAB explored a potential acquisition of London-listed Standard Chartered, signaling its ambition to expand its international footprint. Under the leadership of Group CEO Hana Al Rostamani since 2021, FAB has undergone significant restructuring to enhance operational efficiency and shareholder returns. The bank reorganized its operations into four new divisions and appointed Linos Lekkas, a veteran from Citi, as the head of its investment banking division. This strategic realignment aims to strengthen FAB's position in the Gulf and support its expansion plans. FAB's strong financial performance further bolsters investor sentiment. In the first quarter, the bank reported a 23% increase in net profit, driven by growth in non-interest income from fees and commissions. This performance exceeded analysts' expectations and reflects the bank's diversified revenue streams and effective cost management.
