Kamal Haasan added, "Don't take anything else in your hands, only education. We cannot win without it, because the majority can make you lose. Majority Fools (Moodargal) will make u lose; knowledge alone will seem defeated. That's why we must hold on to it (Education) firmly."

Praising the Agaram foundation work, the Rajya Sabha MP said, "True education and unconditional love are hard to come by. Apart from our mothers, institutions like Agaram Foundation are among the few places where we can still find them,"
He highlighted that recognition in cinema, symbolised by crowns of fame, is different from the invisible yet impactful recognition one gets through
social service
.
Live Events
"In cinema, we are crowned for our performances. But in social work, we are given a crown of thorns. It takes a strong heart to accept that crown. No one else will do this for us we have to do it ourselves," he said.
Addressing the challenges in the field of education, he pointed out how the implementation of
NEET
since 2017 has limited opportunities for many aspiring students. "Even Agaram Foundation, despite its best efforts, cannot help students beyond a point because the law doesn't allow it. To change the law, we need strength and that strength can only come from education, he said.
Kamal Haasan also shared a recent conversation with
Tamil Nadu
Chief Minister
M K Stalin
. "Yesterday, I told the Chief Minister that NGOs were not asking for anything like money --they're only asking for permission to work. He assured me that steps are being taken in that direction. I am proud to be involved in this cause," he said.
He concluded by saying that true leaders are often forgotten, even as the impact of their work continues. "Leadership isn't about staying in power, it's about making change happen, even if your name fades away with the waves. It has taken me 70 years to understand this.

Stalin woos youth, says DMK govt working for their uplift

Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin made a strong pitch to woo youth towards DMK in the upcoming assembly elections. He announced govt would start giving laptops to college students, countering AIADMK's charges of DMK halting the free laptop scheme. "Youth are the foundation of Tamil society. Primary goal of the Dravidian model govt is to enable growth of youth. This govt is for the youth," Stalin said on Wednesday after distributing appointment orders to around 2,300 youth recruited through state municipal administration department. "Since education alone is not enough, govt is creating job opportunities as well," Stalin said, adding that more than one lakh youth were given jobs through TNPSC, TRB and TNUSB, more than three lakh jobs were provided through Naan Mudhalvan scheme while another 2.65 lakh got employment through job fairs organised by labour department. As a result of 941 MoUs signed over the past four years, attracting 10lakh crore in investments, more than two lakh jobs have been generated, he said. Stalin said govt was also creating a conducive environment for attracting investments, which spurs economic growth resulting in job creation to benefit youth. "Peaceful ambience, proper maintenance of law and order, skillful youth, requisite infrastructure and schemes rolled out with foresight are helping TN remain on top," he said. Efforts have begun for generation of more jobs in Dravidian model govt 2.0 too after 2026, he added. Political analyst A Ramasamy said such initiatives consolidate DMK's support base. "Schemes such as Naan Mudhalvan mainly attract students from economically disadvantaged groups. These programmes targeting youth are helping the party consolidate its base," he said. However, professor and economist Krishna Raj said the job figures required closer scrutiny. "Filling one lakh govt vacancies is good. But where are the remaining jobs that were created? If these are in the industrial or informal sector, they may lack social security, insurance or benefits," he said.

1,240 National Highway Projects Worth Rs 7.8 Lakh Crore Underway: Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi: Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday said 1,240 national highways projects in 29,406 km, costing Rs 7.80 lakh crore, are currently under construction in the country, of which 15,674 km have been completed. These projects are under various stages of construction and are scheduled for completion in a phased manner by the financial year 2028-29, Gadkari said in a written reply to Rajya Sabha. The ministry of road transport and highways is primarily responsible for the development and maintenance of National Highways (NHs) and Expressways. Responding to a separate question, the minister said that during the current Financial Year 2025-26, the government has prepared the annual plan for the development of about 19,555 km of NHs, including about 548 km in the State of West Bengal. He also said a total of 4,557 electric vehicle Public Charging Stations (PCSs) have been installed on the State/National Highways and Expressways in the country. The minister said the government has prioritised the maintenance of the existing national highways network and has evolved a mechanism to ensure maintenance and repair (M&R), including timely repair of potholes on all NHs, through accountable maintenance agencies. NHs' development projects are executed mainly in three modes-- Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT), Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) and Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC). Concession period, including maintenance for projects on Build-Operate and Transfer (BOT), is 15 to 20 years, and on Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) is generally 15 years. The Concessionaire is responsible for the maintenance of the respective NH stretches within the concession period of the project. Only in the case of EPC projects, the Defect Liability period (DLP) is 5 years for the bituminous pavement works and 10 years for concrete pavement works.

CM: TN has double digit growth of 11.19%

Chennai: Chief minister M K Stalin said TN has become the fastest growing state in the country overcoming multiple challenges. Citing a Union ministry of statistics report, Stalin said on Wednesday that TN's economic growth rate has touched 11.19%, surging past the previous estimate of 9.69%. State has achieved the double digit growth rate after 14 years, he said after distributing appointment orders to youth recruited by state municipal administration department. "We have reached the milestone after crossing multiple hurdles and slander," Stalin said. He said DMK would not remain content with this accomplishment, but would take efforts to reach higher up, through concerted efforts in Dravidian model govt 2.0. It's too ambitious, they said. But with growth like this, what once seemed distant is now well within reach," he posted on X. State finance minister Thangam Thennarasu attributed the double-digit growth rate to financial prudence. "Double digit growth rate in real terms is yet another feather in the hat of Dravidian model govt. The growth was possible due to our financial prudence. We have not only boosted our GSDP but boosted the economy of the country as well," Thennarasu told reporters at Anna Arivalayam.
