Jalen Hurts gets unexpected backing from longtime Eagles doubter
Jalen Hurts gets unexpected backing from longtime Eagles doubter Nick Wright of First Things First defended Jalen Hurts being ranked behind Justin Herbert in Chris Simms' Top 10 list
Nothing in life is guaranteed except for maybe bloodthirsty NFC East wars and the Philadelphia Eagles' undying love for Jason Kelce. Brian Dawkins will always be our superhero. Hmm... Come to think of it, we all may be able to make a few guarantees after all.
Here's one we can place money on. Never will you ever see Nick Wright or Chris Simms at Chickie's & Pete's or an Eagles victory parade. They're more likely to end up on a wanted list posted around the city, but every once in a while, they both surprise us.
In May, Simms broke character by talking about how great this Eagles team is. Don't worry. It didn't last. He was back to bashing Jalen Hurts a week or so later. Recently, he released the annual quarterback ranking he does. The reigning Super Bowl MVP barely cracked the top ten. Somehow, he landed behind some questionable entries.
Don't take anyone else's word for it. Take a look for yourselves.
This one caused quite the stir, as you might expect, but the conversations haven't ended. This story comes with a twist, however. You'll never guess who came to Jalen Hurts' defense.
Nick Wright does the rare 180 with his recent defense of Jalen Hurts
This has to be an episode of The Twilight Zone. It's either that or Nick Wright is luring us in for some Judas-level of betrayal. Don't take the bait, but if you're interested, here's something worth tossing out for fodder.
FS1's First Things First dedicated a portion of its broadcast recently to picking apart Simms' QB ranking. The Jalen Hurts defense came from the most unlikely of sources.
Very rarely will you hear this, but it seems warranted in this sense. Wright may have made a couple of points here.
Often, there's a tendency to crush him when he swings wildly and strikes out. Here's a pat on the back for something well thought out. Please don't get used to it. He'll probably be back to bashing Jalen by the end of the month.
Wright probably won't be seen in any press boxes at Lincoln Financial Field anytime soon. Give him credit for this one, though. He still isn't hitting any home runs, but at least he's contacting the ball and getting on base.

Vikings CB Isaiah Rodgers embracing fresh start and preparing for bigger role in Minnesota
Minnesota Vikings cornerback Isaiah Rodgers missed the 2023 NFL season because of a gambling suspension. Last season, he won a Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. Now, Minnesota's newest cornerback is getting ready for a bigger role. "Just enjoy the process while it's here," said Rodgers at mini-camp earlier this week. "Do whatever I can do to help the team win and bring a Lombardi to Minnesota." Rodgers may not have made as many national headlines when he signed with the Vikings this offseason. But if all goes according to plan, he'll be a starting cornerback and make a big impact this fall. At least that's what Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores wants. "He just wants me to be me," said Rodgers, of Flores. "That's one of the reasons why I came here. He just wants me to go out there and use my ball skills and use my knowledge to make plays." Rodgers, 27, will be paired with pro-bowler Byron Murphy. It's only been a few weeks, but the two corners have quickly become friends. "We play the game a lot," said Rodgers. "We ask each other about film. You know, how he sees this, how I see it. We switch from boundary to field. So we're just having fun with the scheme and figuring each other out." "I'd say that's my best friend already," said Murphy. "That's my dawg. Obviously just met him when he got here. But we're already playing games online, we got 2K, all those things. He's a great guy, great teammate. But that bond's already there." And it turns out that bond and their back-and-forth competition could result in a few more Vikings turnovers. Murphy had six interceptions last year, third best in the NFL. "A lot of plays on the ball. A lot of interceptions. He dropped a lot, though, "laughed Rodgers. "He's supposed to have at least 10-plus. So, just trying to get in that stat category with him and compete." "I dropped like five or six," smiled Murphy. "I don't know the exact number, but I gotta go make up for it this year for sure." Rodgers figures to factor in the return game, too. He has one career kickoff return for a touchdown so far, which happened in 2020. Along with many other Vikings, he took reps at that spot during OTAs and minicamp. WCCO asked Rodgers if he sees that being part of his job this season. "Anything to help the team. Just having fun out here. Enjoying the process too."

Bald Eagle Area softball falls short in PIAA championship
UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. (WTAJ) – Bald Eagle Area's softball team entered the PIAA Class 3A Championship Game on Friday hoping for revenge against Pine Grove Area, who handed the Eagles a loss in the title game back in 2019. However, the Cardinals got the best of them once again, winning 4-3 in the 13th inning at Penn State's Beard Field at Nittany Lion Softball Park. Addisyn Burns gave Bald Eagle Area an early lead in the third inning with a two-run double. Steelers unfazed by Watt's absence The Eagles saw a strong pitching performance from Sierra Albright, but errors allowed Pine Grove Area to take control of the game early on. In the bottom of the third inning, Callee Leffler hit a triple into right field but was able to score the Cardinals' first run of the game due to a throwing error. In the fourth inning, Jamie Dinger tied the game at two with an RBI double but would advance to third base on another error. Pine Grove Area capitalized on that as Tailyn Bohr would give them the lead with an RBI single. Trailing 3-2 in the seventh inning, Bald Eagle Area played small ball, using a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly to help force the game into extra innings. After each team had opportunities to win it in extras, Dinger was the hero in the 13th inning, winning the game with a bases loaded sacrifice fly. The loss drops Bald Eagle Area's record to 2-6 in the PIAA Championship Game. The Eagles finished their remarkable season with a 22-4 record. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
