Sky Sports name surprise host for new show that was controversially scrapped
Sky Sports has picked veteran presenter Dharmesh Sheth to lead the revamped version of Sunday Supplement - five years after the show was controversially axed.
The newspaper review show ran for 20 years and featured some of the top journalists in the country discussing the biggest headlines in football and in the Premier League.
It was originally hosted by Neil Ashton, former chief sports reporter for the Sun, before Sky presenter Jacqui Oatley took over in 2020, but the show was cancelled later that year.
But now Sky chiefs are resurrecting the programme and have made a surprise choice to helm it, with Sheth set to take up presenting duties, according to the Daily Mail.
Sheth is a long-serving member of staff at Sky who can often be seen on Sky Sports News breaking down the latest transfer news.
He is set to switch up his focus by hosting a show for the first time as he told the Mail: "To be given the opportunity to present the show is all a bit surreal. And I can't wait to get started."
There was previously speculation that former BBC Radio One DJ Roman Kemp could take on the role after taking up a job with Sky.
Chiefs were expected to give the show a new name but have decided to stick with the original title.
The report adds that the show will continue a similar format to the original, with major football stories being discussed by industry insiders.
The first presenter of the Sunday Supplement was Jimmy Hill, when the show was initially called Hold The Back Page back in 1999.
Football fans will fondly remember how it was preceded by the Goals on Sunday highlights show, hosted by Ben Shepherd and Chris Kamara.
It comes at a time when Sky are making major changes to its programming schedule. They cancelled beloved and long-running show Soccer AM in 2023 and have also made major changes to its Gilette Soccer Saturday line-up, with Jeff Stelling leaving after 25 years at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Alexander Isak's stance towards a Liverpool move has been revealed as the Reds consider a £120million bid for the Newcastle striker. Isak is a player whom Liverpool have long admired and reports suggest the Merseyside club have now approached Newcastle to sound of the possibility of a deal this summer. However, transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano suggests that the 25-year-old would be open to a move to Anfield this summer if a bid came in for his services. Liverpool are on the hunt for a new forward to ensure they keep hold of their Premier League title and Newcastle's Alexander Isak has been identified as their primary transfer target Liverpool fans will remember how captain Virgil van Dijk exchanged words with Alexander Isak after their Carabao Cup final defeat to the Magpies back in March - as the Reds continue to chase the £125m striker. Arne Slot 's side are ramping up their bid to sign a new striker this summer after already splashing out more than £170million on a raft of new signings. That included smashing their transfer record to secure the £116.5m addition of Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen - and they might have to do so again if they want to bring Isak to Anfield. The Sweden international has emerged as Liverpool's next priority transfer target but a deal looks difficult to complete, with Newcastle extremely reluctant to lose their prized striker. It is understood the Reds could have to spend around £125m just to get the Magpies to consider a bid, with Slot keen to bring in a top forward to complement his already impressive attacking options. Liverpool came up against Isak in their disappointing 2-1 defeat to Newcastle in the Carabao Cup final four months ago. The 25-year-old found the back of the net as he netted Newcastle's second goal at Wembley and was seen speaking to Van Dijk after the game. The Dutchman had been filmed whispering in the striker's ear and that led to wild speculation on social media among Liverpool fans. Some had theorised that Van Dijk had told him "see you in the summer" or "see you in pre-season". Another added: "That was definitely Alex saying to Virg 'see you next season'.
