Celtic Manor owner saw wealth fall by £200m last year

Sir Terry, the owner of the Celtic Manor Resort, now has a personal wealth of £1.338 billion, according to the annual Sunday Times Rich List.
The 81-year-old, who was raised in Newbridge, made his fortune in the telecoms industry.
He studied electronics at Swansea University before starting out on his journey in business in Canada.
There, he launched his telecommunications equipment business, Mitel, in 1973.
Besides his telecoms ventures, Sir Terry owns the Celtic Manor Resort in South Wales.

The Newport businessman was the first billionaire in Wales and was the richest man in the country until 2012.
Sir Terry currently ranks 119th in the UK rich list and fourth in Wales.
The annual Sunday Times Rich List has seen a significant drop in the number of billionaires this year, from 177 in 2022 to 156.
Cardiff-born billionaire Sir Michael Moritz and his wife, Harriet Heyman, hold the top position on the Welsh list, despite their fortunes falling by £168 million to £4.435 billion.
Flintshire technology entrepreneur Simon Nixon, co-founder of Moneysupermarket.com, takes second place with a worth of £1.95 billion.
Llanelli-based Specsavers founder Douglas Perkins and his family are in third place with an estimated fortune of £1.539 billion.
The fifth spot goes to Cardiff-born property investor and West Ham United owner David Sullivan and his family, with a net worth of £1.118 billion.
Meanwhile, Alex Loven has been named the wealthiest person in Wales under 40.
The 37-year-old started out in business selling cricket bats to his schoolmates at the age of 13. He later founded Wrexham-based Net World Sports.
His net worth has increased to £262 million from £200 million last year, making him the 18th richest person under 40 in the UK.
The 2025 Sunday Times Rich List names the 350 richest people in the UK based on identifiable wealth, including land, property, and assets such as art and racehorses, and significant shares in publicly quoted companies.
The figures do not include bank accounts.
This year's list, which includes notable figures such as Sir Elton John, Sir Mick Jagger, and Sir Lewis Hamilton, holds a combined wealth of £772.8 billion.
This sum is larger than the annual GDP of Switzerland but is down three per cent compared with last year.
Robert Watts, the compiler of the guide, said: "Our billionaire count is down, and the combined wealth of those who feature in our research is falling.
"We are also finding fewer of the world's super-rich are coming to live in the UK.
"The Rich List's decline in billionaire numbers is the sharpest in its 37-year history, reflecting changing economic conditions.
"Despite this, the list remains a testament to the significant wealth held by a small number of individuals and families in the UK.
"The list highlights the ongoing concentration of wealth in certain industries, particularly technology and telecommunications, as exemplified by figures like Sir Terry Matthews and Sir Michael Moritz.
"The Rich List provides a snapshot of the shifting landscape of wealth in the UK, with the fortunes of its members reflecting broader economic trends.
"Despite a decrease in the number of billionaires and a dip in their combined wealth, the list continues to highlight the significant economic influence of its members.

Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen to bring a slice of Italian heritage back to Oban

Oban is set to welcome Riccardough's, a new food business with a whole lot of history behind it. And one that promises to serve up a taste of authentic Italian pizza, many locals will remember fondly. Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen, a newly refurbished and eye-catching mobile pizza van, will soon be hitting the streets of Oban and surrounding villages. Behind the venture is 61-year-old Riccardo Pacitti, the son of the late Luigi and Dorina Pacitti, who ran the much-loved Luigi's Pizzeria and chip shop in the town for many years. Luigi's chip shop in Oban was a local institution. Known for its authentic Italian pizza and classic fish and chips, it became a community favourite. For years, locals and visitors alike queued for its fresh flavours and the warm, family-run atmosphere that made it a much-missed part of the town's food scene. The Pacitti family were pioneers of authentic Italian pizza in Oban, introducing freshly made bases and traditional toppings to customers long before the trend took off in Scotland. 'I was working in the chip shop at the time and people just loved it,' said Riccardo. 'We were the first in Oban to serve real, fresh Italian pizza. It's something I've always been proud of.' After leaving the family business, Riccardo spent 22 years working at sea. He returned home to Oban in 2020 due to health reasons and the impact of the Covid pandemic. Since then, he has been looking for a way back into the food trade — but finding a restaurant premises proved difficult. 'I was never thinking about a van,' he said. 'But my daughter Natalie and her partner David encouraged me to give it a go.' Natalie runs a successful beauty business Oro Rosa, in the shop premises her grandparents once owned, and David MacPhee runs a digital marketing company, Digital Minded, and the This is Oban website. 'They've really helped me get this off the ground,' Riccardo said. The result is Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen — a fully renovated pizza van that has been in the works since March and has just received a striking new wrap from Impact Branding. Riccardo grew up steeped in Italian cooking, learning recipes and techniques from his parents. He says Riccardough's will allow him to share that heritage with a new generation of customers. Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen will serve at lunchtimes in Oban town centre near Tesco, before moving on to villages such as Connel, Dunbeg and others in the evenings. The van will also be available for parties, weddings and events, with Riccardo working on a set schedule so people know when and where to find it. As for the menu, Riccardo is keeping his cards close to his chest. 'I'm keeping the recipe and flavours under my chef's hat for now,' he said. 'But let's just say they'll be familiar to anyone who remembers Luigi's Pizzeria.' With the final touches being put in place, Riccardough's Pizza Kitchen is expected to open very soon. Aldi opens one of its biggest stores in Wales

One of the biggest Aldi stores in Wales has opened its doors. Aldi says it is opening an average of one new supermarket a week for the rest of 2025 as it ramps up its expansion programme. The openings form part of a £650 investment into its store estate this year. This will also see 35 of its supermarkets undergo refurbishments before the end of the year. The expansion push saw the brand open up a new supermarket on Deeside this week, with Team GB diving hero Lois Toulson cutting the ribbon. The Airfields store is 21,000 sq ft and will be run by Store Manager Spencer Kearney, along with a team of 27 staff. Jonathan Neale, Aldi UK managing director of national real estate, said: 'At Aldi, our goal is to make sure people across the UK have access to affordable, high-quality food, and opening new stores is key to making that happen. We're now opening an average of one new store a week for the rest of 2025, showing just how ambitious our plans are to build a store network that will help us reach millions of new customers." Start-Up Support Helps Newport Entrepreneur Launch Coffee Shop

A Newport man has transformed the setback of redundancy into a fresh start, launching an independent coffee shop with help from Business Wales. The Rich Bean Coffee, founded by Richard Collins, is now open at Caerleon RFC Club and is already showing strong signs of growth. Formerly a sales manager, Richard turned his long-standing passion for coffee into a business venture. Motivated by a desire to take control of his future, he used the opportunity to create a welcoming, community-focused space that offers sustainably sourced coffee and locally produced goods. With guidance from Ian Harvey, a Business Adviser at Business Wales, Richard received the comprehensive start up support he needed to develop a robust business plan and financial forecasts. This expert guidance became key to securing a £2,000 Barriers Grant from Business Wales to fund essential equipment and branding. Business Wales' Green Growth and Equality pledges, which enable pro-active businesses to work sustainably and ensure inclusive and fair workplaces, became essential frameworks for Richard's commitment to ensure The Rich Bean Coffee's products are sustainable and ethically sourced. Richard said: 'With my background in business management and years of experience leading teams in the sales industry, I'd always dreamed of building something for myself. When I was made redundant, it felt like the right time to turn that ambition into reality. 'I'd spent a lot of time thinking about what I wanted from the coffee shop and what we could do to build a business that provided local customers a quality experience. That said, starting a business from scratch is never easy. The guidance I received from Business Wales made a huge difference. From developing a business plan to understanding what it really takes to launch successfully, their advice gave me the confidence and structure I needed to take this exciting new step. 'Ian was fantastic from the word go. I built a lot of trust with him and really felt confident that the advice he was offering would guide me in the right direction. I credit him with a lot; he's honestly worth his weight in gold.' Less than one year after the shop's launch, Richard is now scouting new locations that will allow The Rich Bean Coffee to grow the shop's loyal local customer base across Newport. Business Wales Business Adviser Ian Harvey said: 'When Richard first approached Business Wales, his knowledge and experienced background was clear. All that remained was to draw on our range of resources to help assist him in building the skillsets and logistics needed to establish The Rich Bean Coffee. 'The success of the coffee shop shows that many Welsh start ups can achieve great success if the right guidance is in place. That might just be having an experienced adviser on hand to take as a sounding board, or to help identify if financial support is available. In this case, I'm sure that Richard's work will soon see new locations arriving across the region.' Business Wales is funded by Welsh Government.
