Baba Ramdev gives undertaking to Delhi High Court on controversial video against rival brand

The Hindu02-05-2025

Yoga guru Baba Ramdev on Friday (May 2, 2025) gave an undertaking in the Delhi High Court that he will not issue any disparaging statement or publish on social media, posts similar to his 'sharbat jihad' remark against Hamdard's Rooh Afza.
The court asked Mr. Ramdev's counsel to file an affidavit during the day. A similar undertaking was also tendered by Mr. Ramdev's Patanjali Foods Ltd.
The court passed the order while dealing with a lawsuit by Hamdard National Foundation India against Mr. Ramdev and his Patanjali Foods Ltd over the controversial remarks.
Hamdard claimed while promoting Patanjali's 'gulab sharbat', Mr. Ramdev alleged that the money earned from Hamdard's Rooh Afza was used to build madrasas and mosques.
Last week, after the court slammed Ramdev over his remarks allegedly targeting Hamdard's popular drink Rooh Afza as 'Sharbat Jihad', the yoga guru had agreed to immediately take down all related videos.
The court had then described Mr. Ramdev's video as 'indefensible' and 'shocking' to the conscience of the court.
On Friday, Hamdard's counsel said instead of taking down the objectionable video from the YouTube platform, the defendant had only made it private.
Mr. Ramdev's counsel, on the other hand, said he had 'great respect for the court' and its directions would be complied with.
The court then posted the matter on May 9.

RBI Monetary Policy Committee Meeting: Date, time, where to watch live streaming of RBI Governor Sanjay Malhotra's MPC statement

The six-member MPC's decision will be announced on Friday. RBI MPC meet date, time: The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC), headed by Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor Sanjay Malhotra, is meeting this week to evaluate the repo rate, liquidity conditions, CPI inflation and GDP growth prospects for the Indian economy. The bi-monthly policy review began on Wednesday, with market experts forecasting a 25 basis points interest rate cut, taking into account the declining inflation and the need to stimulate growth amid economic pressures created by US President Donald Trump's trade restrictions. The six-member MPC's decision will be announced on Friday. The committee consists of the RBI governor, two senior central bank officials, and three government-nominated members. RBI MPC Meeting: Date, Time The RBI's Monetary Policy Committee meeting began on June 4, 2025. Governor Sanjay Malhotra will present the decisions from the two-day MPC discussions on June 6, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Experts will scrutinise the governor's remarks to understand the central bank's stance, its GDP growth forecasts, and expected CPI inflation outlook. The RBI's assessment holds particular importance as it occurs during a period of widespread concerns about a potential US recession, global economic deceleration, and possible negative effects from the Donald Trump administration's retaliatory tariffs. The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee announcement, presented by Governor Sanjay Malhotra, will be streamed live on June 6, 2025, commencing at 10:00 AM via RBI's official Youtube channel. Also, The Times of India will provide comprehensive coverage and analysis of the RBI governor's statement, MPC meeting's implications for the economy and loan borrowers through its Live blog. Experts anticipate the RBI to lower the repo rate by 25 basis points, reducing it from 6% to 5.75%. The MPC's previous adjustment occurred in April when they decreased the repo rate by 25 basis points to 6%, representing the second reduction since May 2020. While the consensus amongst experts is for a 25 basis points cut, SBI expects a 50 basis points cut to spur economic growth. The Indian economy grew at a better-than-expected rate of 7.4% in the last quarter of financial year 2024-25, as per the initial government estimates. Will energy replace currency? Zerodha's Nikhil Kamath thinks so

Could electricity become more valuable than money? Zerodha co-founder Nikhil Kamath seems to think so. In a recent post, he said that in the next 10 years, energy and electrons might replace traditional currencies like the rupee or wrote on X, "10 years from now, energy and electrons might be the currency of trade." His prediction is based on the rapid rise of data centres and artificial intelligence (AI), both of which need massive amounts of power to function. advertisementHis prediction is based on the rapid rise of data centres and artificial intelligence (AI), both of which need massive amounts of power to DATA CENTRES MATTER Data centres are giant buildings filled with servers that store and manage all the digital content we use daily—be it YouTube videos, online payments, or even AI tools like ChatGPT. These centres work 24/7 and use huge amounts of electricity, mainly for computing and cooling the electricity accounts for 65% of a data centre's operating costs. Remarkably, a single new data centre can consume more power annually than 400,000 electric vehicles. Globally, data centres now use 1.5% of all energy, a number that could surge to 10% by the U.S., energy consumption by data centres stood at 4.4% in 2023 and is predicted to rise to 12% by 2028. The economic stakes of these developments are enormous, with generative AI potentially adding $400 billion to India's GDP by the end of the envisions a future where energy and electrons could emerge as the new form of global currency. This shift is expected to be driven by the rapid growth of data centres and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies. India's generative AI market is projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28% through 2030, significantly boosting the data centre such as Netmagic, STTelemedia, Nxtra, CtrlS, Sify, and Yotta are at the forefront of this transformation, driving the expansion of data infrastructure across the AND REGIONAL OUTLOOKThe US leads globally with 3,680 data centres, followed by Germany, the UK, and position is unique; despite hosting just 264 data centres, accounting for only 3% of global data centre power, it manages 20% of the world's data. These data centres are largely concentrated in cities like Mumbai, Chennai, Noida, Bengaluru, Pune, and AND POLICY SUPPORTDespite robust policy support from initiatives like the India AI Mission and 100% FDI allowance, balancing the rapid growth of data and AI with environmental sustainability remains a only 27% of data centre energy in India is clean, while the global target is to achieve 50% clean energy by 2030. This environmental aspect is critical as generative AI and data centre demands continue to rise, posing questions about sustainable growth. The role of AI is especially important; for instance, a ChatGPT query consumes ten times the energy of a standard Google search, highlighting the substantial energy demands of modern AI technologies.
