Katy Perry's 'Stress' Over Album and Tour Reportedly Caused 'Tension' with Orlando Bloom: Sources (Exclusive)
Katy Perry has been frustrated amid her 143 album release
The singer was "very stressed" over the reception her new music received, a source says, which caused "some tension" in her relationship with fiancé Orlando Bloom
"Orlando was understanding," a second source tells PEOPLEKaty Perry and Orlando Bloom's relationship experienced strain amid the singer's latest endeavor.
An insider tells PEOPLE, "Katy was deeply frustrated following the lackluster [reception] of her new album," 143, which came out in September. "It made her very stressed. Orlando was understanding, but it did cause some tension."
A second source adds, "This was supposed to be Katy's big comeback. She was excited. It's been devastating to watch it fall flat. She's disappointed in the tour reviews. Ticket sales are fine, but nowhere near sold out. It's put stress on their relationship."
Reps for Perry and Bloom did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.
Perry's vision for her latest album was creating "a bold, exuberant, celebratory dance-pop album with the symbolic 143 numerical expression of love as a throughline message," she said in a statement at the time. The album title 143 refers to the retro shorthand of "I love you" via pager communication.

The "Teenage Dream" singer spoke to PEOPLE in February about the negative criticism she received for 143. "You shouldn't read it when it's good. You shouldn't read it when it's bad," she said.
Perry, 40, added, "My therapist said something that really changed my life. What anybody thinks about you is none of your business. It's what you think about yourself."
She also said she created the album from "a real shift in my life when I became a mother, and I really tapped into that feminine divine energy. The messages on it are celebratory. They're about love."
Perry previously experienced situational depression following the criticism stemming from her 2018 album Witness.
'I have had bouts of situational depression, and my heart was broken last year because, unknowingly, I put so much validity in the reaction of the public, and the public didn't react in the way I had expected to … which broke my heart," she said in a February 2018 interview with Vogue Australia.
In conjunction with her new album, Perry set off on her Lifetimes Tour in April, less than a month after participating in Jeff Bezos' all-female Blue Origin flight, which received criticism over its cost and its alleged impact on the environment.
Perry seemingly addressed the criticism during the opening night of the Lifetimes Tour, asking the crowd in Mexico City: "Has anyone ever called your dreams crazy?"
Up next on Perry's tour are shows in Australia through June. Perry then heads to North America making stops throughout the U.S. and Canada through August before heading to South America and Europe.
Among the U.S. cities the "E.T." singer will stop in are Denver, San Francisco, Newark, Baltimore, Atlanta, Nashville and Miami.
Perry and Bloom, 48, have been together for almost a decade. They got engaged in February 2019 and welcomed their daughter Daisy Dove in August 2020.
Most recently, Bloom and Daisy were both present for the Blue Origin flight.

Katy Perry fan arrested, stormed on stage during ‘The Lifetimes Tour'
(NewsNation) — A man has been arrested and charged after storming the stage during Katy Perry's Sydney, Australia leg of 'The Lifetimes Tour.' During Perry's performance of her hit 'Hot N Cold,' a fan climbed up on stage before being detained by security. Burwood Police Area Command said he has been charged with two offenses. Sabrina Carpenter announces new album 'Man's Best Friend' The man was reportedly released on bail and is scheduled for court on June 23. He is also banned for six months from the Sydney Olympic Park precinct. In videos taken by crowd members, an unnamed man is seen running toward Perry as she is taking the mic off its stand. Perry was visually caught off guard and swerved to dodge the man's arm on her shoulder. She still continued her performance, screaming, 'Well, there's never going to be another show like this, Sydney, so just enjoy it!' She can also be heard screaming, 'What the hell is going on?' to the audience. King Charles, Prince William expected at Trooping the Colour; no Harry Two security guards eventually chase the man offstage, with another staff member walking closely behind. Fans reacted to the viral video on social media, with some saying Perry 'handled it well' and others criticizing her for reacting in the way that she did. Another fan criticized security, saying, 'omg that's not okay — why didn't the security do something BEFORE???? i mean katy handled it professionally and didn't panic, true performer behavior.' It has definitely not been an easy year for the pop star. One source told NewsNation's Paula Froelich in May that her Las Vegas residency had been called a 'complete failure.' R. Kelly attorney wants singer moved to home detention 'There was a bidding war between Resorts World and Caesars … and Caesars technically lost out — but in the end, Caesars won,' a source said. 'The residency was a disaster for Resorts World, a complete failure.' The source also claimed that Perry was being paid 'between $750,000 and $900,000 a show because of the bidding war,' but she 'underperformed and Resorts World lost money.' Perry does have one show scheduled for Vegas during this tour, but it isn't a full residency. On top of her failed album last year, she was also recently the center of ridicule after the Blue Origin space flight. Her current tour has also had lagging sales. After the flight, the singer faced backlash because she spent most of her three minutes looking into the camera instead of out the window at Earth. She showed a daisy for her daughter and then the setlist for The Lifetimes Tour. Perry was slammed on X by regular users and celebrities. Actress Olivia Munn criticized the space mission before its launch, saying, 'I know that this is probably obnoxious – but like, it's so much money to go to space. You know, there's a lot of people that can't even afford eggs.' Even the fast-food chain Wendy's talked about Perry, commenting on a picture of her kissing the ground, saying, 'Can we send her back.' Man arrested and charged after storming the stage at a Katy Perry concert
A man has been arrested and charged after storming the stage at a Katy Perry concert. The American singer, 40, was perfroming at Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney as part of her The Lifetimes World Tour on Monday when the incident occured. Footage circulated online captured the moment that Johnson Wen – known online as Pyjama Man – crashed her rendition of 2008 hit, Hot N Cold. Wen could be seen running up to her and grabbing her shoulder, while excitedly jumping up and down, before he was then escorted off stage. For her part Perry - who is engaged to 48-year-old British actor Orlando Bloom - looked furious. She then told the confused crowd: 'Well, there's never going to be another show like this, so just enjoy it, Sydney.' Adding: 'What the hell is going on?' According to 9News, he was arrested after the incident, and taken to Auburn Police Station. Wen was eventually charged with entering enclosed lands, as well as obstructing a person in the performance of their work or duty. After being granted conditional bail, he was issued with a six-month ban from entering the Sydney Olympic Park Precinct, and is due to appear at Burwood Local Court on June 23. Speaking to the Australian news outlet afterwards, Wen claimed his stage invasion had been for fun and went on to recall how Perry had 'freaked out' when she saw him. 'I said, 'Let me get on stage with you', then she freaked out because she realised I wasn't a performer,' he explained. 'I was about to do like extra Fortnite moves but security got there too quick.' This isn't the first time that Wen has done something like this. He was previously banned from the Olympic Park for crashing the Weeknd's concert, and also invaded arenas at the Olympics, the Women's World Cup and the Cricket World Cup final. Wen has now vowed to mend his ways, adding: 'I'm planning to quit forever because you get in way too much trouble for it. Especially me, because I've done it so many times.'
