PM Modi likely to visit UK in late July, formalising trade deal on agenda
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit the United Kingdom in the last week of July, sources said, in what could mark a key moment for India–UK ties as both sides prepare to formalise their long-pending Free Trade Agreement (FTA). This will be Modi's first visit to the UK since Labour leader Keir Starmer took office as British Prime Minister. Sources said the two leaders are expected to announce the formal signing of the FTA, which was concluded in May after years of negotiations. They add that the visit is in the works and will be announced once dates are finalised. The trade pact, described by both sides as 'historic, ambitious, and mutually beneficial,' aims to deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and boost bilateral trade and investment flows. It follows nearly three years after Modi and former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson had set a 2022 deadline for the deal, which was delayed due to contentious issues such as tariffs and political instability in the UK. National Security Adviser Ajit Doval also visited the UK last week, in what is seen as preparatory groundwork ahead of the Prime Minister's likely visit. Meanwhile, the Maldives is also expected to be part of Modi's travel itinerary this month. President Mohamed Muizzu has invited Modi to attend the country's Independence Day celebrations on July 26 as Chief Guest, signalling a thaw in recent tensions between New Delhi and Malé.

India will attempt to give a 'new form' to the BRICS next year, said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his intervention at the grouping's summit in Rio De Janeiro on Monday (July 7, 2025), as the Indian side prepared to take over the leadership of BRICS from current president Brazil. 'Under India's BRICS presidency, we will work to define BRICS in a new form. BRICS will mean Building Resilience and Innovation for Cooperation and Sustainability. Just as, during our G-20 chairmanship, we gave priority to the issues of the Global South in the agenda, similarly during our chairmanship of BRICS, we will take this forum forward in the spirit of people-centricity and humanity first,' said Mr. Modi speaking at the session on Environment, COP 30 and Global Health. The solution to common challenges is possible only through joint efforts.' Earlier, talking at a segment of the BRICS summit in Rio De Janeiro, Mr. Modi shared the Indian position on Artificial Intelligence and said, 'We in India believe in AI as a tool to enhance human values and capabilities. Guided by the mantra of 'AI for All', India is actively using AI in many sectors. We believe that AI governance, addressing concerns and encouraging innovation should both receive equal priority.' Mr. Modi also held a number of bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the BRICS summit. Among those who met the Indian Prime Minister were President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez of Cuba, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim of Malaysia, President Yamandu Orsi of Uruguay and President of Bolivia Luis Alberto Arce Catacora. What PM Modi Gifted To Argentine, Trinidad & Tobago Leaders
New Delhi: From folk art to sacred relics, Prime Minister Narendra Modi's gifts to heads of states during his recent five-nation tour highlight India's diverse artistic traditions and spiritual heritage, highlighting shared values and civilisational depth. As part of deepening diplomatic ties, India has presented a series of culturally significant gifts to the top leadership of Argentina, and Trinidad & Tobago. A Silver Lion And Healing Stone For Argentina's President To the President of Argentina, PM Modi gifted a hand-etched silver lion mounted on a Fuchsite stone base-an elegant representation of Rajasthan's celebrated metalwork and gemstone legacy. The lion, intricately detailed by Rajasthani artisans, stands as a powerful symbol of courage and leadership. The Fuchsite base, often referred to as the "Stone of Healing and Resilience", adds both aesthetic and metaphysical depth to the piece. Sourced from India's mineral-rich regions, the gift pays tribute to the country's geological wealth and artisanal excellence. Vice President Of Argentina Receives Vibrant Folk Art From Bihar In a nod to one of India's oldest art forms, the Vice President of Argentina was presented with a Madhubani painting of the Sun, crafted by artists from Bihar's Mithila region. Rich in detail and colour, the painting captures the traditional motifs and symmetry characteristic of the folk style. With the Sun symbolising energy and life, the piece is deeply rooted in cultural symbolism. Traditionally used to adorn walls during festivals, Madhubani paintings are believed to bring prosperity and ward off negativity, making this artwork both meaningful and auspicious. Sacred Water And Silver Temple For Trinidad & Tobago's Prime Minister To the Prime Minister of Trinidad and Tobago, India presented not one but two spiritually significant gifts, both deeply connected to the city of Ayodhya, the birthplace of Lord Ram. One of the gifts, a metal pitcher filled with sacred water from the River Sarayu, is a revered symbol in Hindu tradition. The Sarayu, considered a spiritual river, is believed to cleanse sins and bless devotees with peace and prosperity. The Kalash, long associated with abundance and sanctity, reflects the spirit of devotion and cultural continuity. Accompanying it was a pure silver replica of the Ayodhya Ram Temple, finely crafted by artisans from Uttar Pradesh. This intricate model captures the grandeur and architectural brilliance of the newly constructed Ram Temple. It stands as a symbol of dharma, devotion, and India's temple art tradition-making it both a devotional artifact and a cultural treasure.
