'OpenAI Academy India' launched to help expand access to AI skills
New Delhi: OpenAI, in partnership with the government's IndiaAI mission, on Thursday launched the first international expansion of its education platform, that will help expand access to AI skills training across the country.
The initiative, called 'OpenAI Academy India', aims to broaden access to AI education and tools, tapping into India's fast-growing developer community, digital infrastructure, and network of startups and innovators.
It will support the IndiaAI Mission's 'FutureSkills' pillar by expanding access to AI skills training for a wide range of learners — students, developers, educators, civil servants, nonprofit leaders, and small business owners.
The initiative offers a combination of digital and in-person learning, tailored to India's needs and available in English and Hindi, with additional regional languages to follow.
'This is a significant step towards advancing our shared goal of democratizing access to knowledge and technology. Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is committed to ensuring that the benefits of cutting-edge innovation reach every citizen,' said Ashwini Vaishnaw, Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Electronics and IT.
'We believe the latest AI frameworks and tools must be made widely accessible so that our startups, developers, and researchers can build faster, better, and at scale. The launch of OpenAI Academy will strengthen India's AI Mission by enabling greater community learning, fostering innovation, and accelerating the development of locally relevant solutions,' Vaishnaw noted.
OpenAI will provide its educational content to be hosted on the iGOT Karmayogi platform, aimed at capacity building of government officials. This content will initially be in English and Hindi and will later be expanded to 4 other regional languages.
OpenAI will also conduct periodic webinars and in-person workshops, delivered by its domain experts and partners in six cities. It will provide up to $100,000 worth of API Credits to 50 IndiaAI Mission approved fellows/startups.
OpenAI said it will also support training of 1 million teachers in the use of Generative AI technology.
'India is one of the most dynamic countries in the world for AI development, with adoption and innovation accelerating at remarkable speed,' said Jason Kwon, Chief Strategy Officer, OpenAI.

RAIPUR: The Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) has played a pivotal role in the construction of the world's tallest railway bridge over the Chenab River in Jammu & Kashmir, supplying a total of 16,000 tonnes of steel — with its Bhilai Steel Plant alone contributing 12,000 tonnes. A senior official from the Bhilai plant confirmed the figure on Friday, hailing it as a proud moment for the Indian steel industry and a major milestone in nation-building. The Chenab Railway Bridge, inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 6, 2025, is now the highest railway arch bridge on the planet, rising 359 metres above the riverbed — even taller than the Eiffel Tower. The bridge is part of the strategically crucial Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla Rail Link (USBRL) project and aims to bring seamless all-weather connectivity to Kashmir, significantly improving both civilian and military mobility. SAIL's contribution to the bridge included a wide range of steel products such as TMT bars, heavy plates, structural steel, and hot strip mill products. From the total volume supplied, the Bhilai Steel Plant alone provided 5,922 tonnes of TMT bars, 6,454 tonnes of steel plates, and 56 tonnes of structural steel. The remaining steel was delivered by SAIL's IISCO, Durgapur, Rourkela, and Bokaro plants. Trains 26401/26402 will operate six days a week, excluding Tuesdays. Train 26403 will depart from Katra at 2.55 pm and arrive in Srinagar at 5.53 pm, completing the journey in 2 hours and 58 minutes. The fare on this train will be Rs 660 for a chair car seat and Rs 1,270 for executive class. The price difference compared to the first Vande Bharat train is due to a difference in catering charges. From Srinagar, train 26404 will depart at 8 am and arrive in Katra at 10.58 am, with a two-minute stop at Banihal at 9 am. Fares will be Rs 715 for chair car and Rs 1,320 for executive class. Resilience must be anchored in foundations of development, says PM Modi's Principal Secretary
Nice (France): Welcoming African Union as a new member of the New Delhi-headquartered Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday said that resilience must be anchored in the very foundations of development. As the Co-Chair of the CDRI, Mishra, in his address to member countries and organisations at the Seventh International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) on the sidelines of the third UN Ocean Conference in Nice announced the African Union Commission is the newest member of the coalition. He appreciated how 54 members have so far joined the CDRI and are bound by a common belief that resilience must be 'embedded in the very foundations of development'. Earlier this week, the African Union Commission hosted the regional consultation on the Africa common position for disaster risk reduction in Geneva in Switzerland. Organised on the sidelines of the Global Platform 2025 for disaster risk reduction, the event brought together high-level delegations from African Union member states, regional economic communities and key development partners in a collaborative effort to refine and strengthen Africa's stance ahead of the Global Platform for disaster risk reduction high-level segment. The CDRI is a global coalition dedicated to enhancing the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks. With 46 member countries and eight partner organisations, it includes national governments, international organisations, and businesses collaborating to share knowledge, conduct research, and invest in disaster-resilient infrastructure. Members benefit from access to global expertise, funding, technical support, research opportunities, innovative solutions, and international best practices. Speaking on the occasion, CDRI Director General Amit Prothi said: 'Coastal resilience is vital for protecting lives and economies. ICDRI 2025 unites global voices to inform action for vulnerable coastal communities and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Through our IRIS programme, we are supporting 24 projects across 25 SIDS, driving sustainable and inclusive infrastructure development." He said at the ICDRI, the 54-member global coalition has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing climate and disaster resilient infrastructure across Africa. Other announcements include the awarding of research grants for 53 projects spanning 21 countries, as well as a call to action for accelerating infrastructure resilience in small island nations, emphasising the urgent need for global collaboration and investment. With approximately 37 per cent of the global population residing within 100 km of the coast, contributing around $1.5 trillion to the annual global GDP, and 90 per cent of global goods transported by sea, strengthening coastal resilience is now a global priority.
