The "Pretty Woman" Necklace: An Eternal Cinematic Icon In The World Of Jewelry

Waleed Farouk
The Vivienne Ward necklace, worn by Julia Roberts in the 1990 film "Pretty Woman," is one of the most iconic pieces of jewelry in cinematic history.
Designed by French jewelry house Fred Joaillier, this exquisite necklace features 23 pear-shaped rubies surrounded by diamond-studded hearts, set on an 18-karat white gold base.
The necklace was originally valued at approximately $250,000 and was heavily guarded during filming, with an armed guard from the jewelry store behind the camera at all times. This necklace has become a symbol of romance and elegance, especially after the famous scene in which Richard Gere opens the box in front of Julia Roberts, prompting her spontaneous reaction that became an iconic moment in the film.
The popularity of this necklace continued after the film's release, with Fred launching the "Pretty Woman" collection, featuring designs inspired by the original necklace, including the "Audacious" necklace in white gold, set with eight heart-shaped rubellites and 554 diamonds. It can be transformed into multiple jewelry pieces, such as earrings and a brooch.
The "Pretty Woman" necklace is an example of how cinema has influenced the world of fashion and jewelry, transforming it from a piece of art into a cultural icon that transcends the silver screen.

Amy Samir Ghanem and Hassan El Raddad Welcome Second Child

Yara Sameh Egyptian actress Amy Samir Ghanem and her husband, actor Hassan El Raddad welcomed their second baby. El Raddad shared the news on Instagram on Wednesday, saying: 'We welcomed a beautiful girl called Fadya,'. He also shared a photo of him holding his baby's hand. The child was name after El Raddad's late mother. In a March 9 interview with " Al Kahera Wal Nas " TV Channel, he announced Ghanem was four months pregnant, adding they were keen to keep the baby news a secret for a long time to avoid envy. "There is a difference in dealing with pregnancy announcements in different societies," he explained. "In some countries, couples announce pregnancy from the very start while in the Arab world, some prefer to keep the matter secret for a while,". El Raddad also opened up about his opinion on posting photos on social media of his first child Fady, whom they welcomed in January 2023 and named after his late brother. The 41-year-old actor noted that he prefers not to reveal the toddler's face and is satisfied with sharing snaps that do not show his features, emphasizing that the decision is a "Personal freedom that needs to be respected". El Raddad reflected on parenting and the impact of fatherhood on him and stated that he has become more thoughtful about how to raise his child and protect him from the negative things he may face in life. "A father needs vision and insight to guide his children toward the right path and keep them away from any negative influences," he said. El Raddad noted that he has been accustomed to bearing responsibility throughout his life, but the responsibility of children is completely different and requires deep thinking to ensure that they are raised properly. He added: "I hope that God will grant me the ability to raise my son in the right way. Focusing on proper upbringing is essential, and everything God provides us with is good and a blessing." read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies News Flights suspended at Port Sudan Airport after Drone Attacks

Electronic Arts Cancels "Black Panther" Video Game, Closes Cliffhanger Studios

Yara Sameh A long-awaited video game based on Disney and Marvel's cultural phenomenon movie 'Black Panther' has been scrapped at publisher Electronic Arts as part of the closure of the game's developer, Cliffhanger Games. As a result of EA shuttering Cliffhanger, multiple employees have been laid off at both that studio and across EA's mobile and central teams. The number of staffers cut is less than the 300 that EA let go last month when it canceled its next planned 'Titanfall' game, and the company is working to place these individuals with other teams throughout EA. In an email sent to staff Wednesday, EA Entertainment president Laura Miele said the moves were made to 'sharpen our focus and put our creative energy behind the most significant growth opportunities.' The cuts come as EA chief Andrew Wilson has made it clear the company's priority is its biggest franchises, including EA Sports, 'The Sims,' 'Battlefield,' 'Apex Legends,' and the upcoming game 'Skate,' rather than making licensed games. 'These decisions are hard,' Miele said. 'They affect people we've worked with, learned from and shared real moments with. We're doing everything we can to support them — including finding opportunities within EA, where we've had success helping people land in new roles.' This marks the third round of layoffs EA has made this year. In April, EA reduced its staff by more than 300 employees with approximately one third of the cuts made at developer Respawn, which was making 'Titanfall' and one additional project, both of which were in 'early-stage incubation,' according to Respawn. The layoffs mainly affected the teams working on games 'Apex Legends' and 'Star Wars Jedi.' read more New Tourism Route To Launch in Old Cairo Ahmed El Sakka-Led Play 'Sayidati Al Jamila' to Be Staged in KSA on Dec. 6 Mandy Moore Joins Season 2 of "Dr. Death" Anthology Series Don't Miss These Movies at 44th Cairo Int'l Film Festival Today Amr Diab to Headline KSA's MDLBEAST Soundstorm 2022 Festival Arts & Culture Mai Omar Stuns in Latest Instagram Photos Arts & Culture "The Flash" to End with Season 9 Arts & Culture Ministry of Culture Organizes four day Children's Film Festival Arts & Culture Canadian PM wishes Muslims Eid-al-Adha News Egypt confirms denial of airspace access to US B-52 bombers News Ayat Khaddoura's Final Video Captures Bombardment of Beit Lahia News Australia Fines Telegram $600,000 Over Terrorism, Child Abuse Content Arts & Culture Nicole Kidman and Keith Urban's $4.7M LA Home Burglarized Sports Former Al Zamalek Player Ibrahim Shika Passes away after Long Battle with Cancer Sports Neymar Announced for Brazil's Preliminary List for 2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers News Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouly Inaugurates Two Indian Companies Arts & Culture New Archaeological Discovery from 26th Dynasty Uncovered in Karnak Temple Business Fear & Greed Index Plummets to Lowest Level Ever Recorded amid Global Trade War Arts & Culture Zahi Hawass: Claims of Columns Beneath the Pyramid of Khafre Are Lies
