Corrie fans taken aback as character is unexpectedly recast after 9 years

Metro15-07-2025
Coronation Street fans were left surprised watching last night's episode of the ITV soap, as a new face appeared.
In the instalment that focused on Mick Michaelis (Joe Layton) breaking out of prison, the murderer made his way to Weatherfield High School to look for daughter Joanie.
There, multiple children came across a furious and desperate Mick, who wandered through the corridors in search of his child.
The character made eye contact with teens, including Sam Blakeman (Jude Riordan) and a young girl – who many audience members didn't recognise.
The student was actually Lily Platt, David's (Jack P Shepherd) daughter. What took fans by surprise was that a new star is now playing the character, meaning they weren't instantly able to identify her.
Lily was born in 2013 and was played by Ava and Lilly Bushell, and then Betsie and Emmie Taylor.
In 2016, Brooke Malonie took over the role. She played her for nine years.
Yesterday's instalment saw Grace Ashcroft-Gardner's first scenes as Lily, and the character effectively having a new head left plenty of people stunned!
Taking to social media platform X, this fan of Corrie wrote: 'They've recasted Lily?! They kept that quiet. #Corrie.'
'Is that David's Lily? When did they change her #Corrie', another wrote, echoing the shock.
'Hang on… is that Lily, David & Shona's Lily???', this user noted.

In the episode itself, Mick left the school shortly after learning Joanie was no longer attending for her taster day. More Trending
Charging into the factory to find her, he held Sarah Platt (Tina O'Brien) and Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) hostage in the office. Luckily, Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) had been tipped off about his escape and followed suit.
A huge argument escalated, and then Mick became aware that Joanie had been smuggled onto the roof by Sally Metcalfe (Sally Dynevor).
Racing up the staircase, Kit's behaviour then turned physical in a bid to stop him. Punches were thrown, and then a knife was produced.

Unfortunately, though, Kit was on the receiving end.

Beloved ITV detective show slapped with 'trigger warning' for crime scenes in 'woke' move

ITV 's Inspector Morse has been slapped with a 'trigger warning' in a move that has been branded ' woke '. The popular series now features a pre-warning for crime scenes throughout the show, which seems to have caused a stir with people online. The streaming giant also advises there are 'satanic images' in one episode of the drama. It then has a parental lock on the episode, titled Day of the Devil. Inspector Morse first aired from 1987 to 2000, with a total of eight series. Other episodes also feature a warning over crime and violence. The popular series now features a pre-warning for crime scenes throughout the show, which seems to have caused a stir with people online Speaking about the update, Senior MP Sir Alec Shelbrooke slammed: 'This is another example of soft-touch Britain seeping into everything. 'We're just going to be laughed at as a country if things like this continue, because nobody's prepared for the real world where there are no.' Daily Mail has contacted ITV for comment. In the past, it has said about general alerts: 'Programming that contains politically sensitive or distressing themes, content, or language has carried appropriate warnings since our launch.' Just a few weeks ago, Netflix bosses axed an iconic moment from Pride and Prejudice to avoid 'objectifying men'. The unforgettable scene of Mr Darcy - played by Colin Firth - emerging from a lake was all the rage in 1995. But show bosses have confirmed it will not resurface in the forthcoming version of the rom-com. According to reports, many fans will be disappointed as the famous BBC scene is said to have 'got millions of women hot under the collar'. A source told The Sun: 'It is also credited for sparking subsequent moments of male objectification on screen - likes Aidan Turner's famous topless scything scene in Poldark.' It's claimed that Netflix bosses 'don't want a repeat'. The saucy scene soon became one of the most favourite TV scenes, however it didn't actually feature in Jane Austen's original 1813 story. Arguably the most iconic wet shirt ever worn sold at auction for £25,000 - double its estimated sale price.

They share their strong feelings for one another and, later on in the episode, Harry chooses to recouple with Shakira, leaving Helena and Blu to coupe up. Just a short time later, Harry and Shakira have been seen getting very close in a preview clip played on Love Island's After Sun. Maya played the clip to the panellist and audience members, all of which audibly gasped as they watched Harry snuggle into Shakira and kiss her neck. The 22-year-old could be seen sat on Harry's lap, as the footballer cradled her in the girls' dressing room. She told him they'd be taking "baby steps" as he nestled into her neck after getting their relationship back on track. Eyeing up her lips, Harry leans in to snog Shakira, but she quickly turns away, allowing him to kiss her cheek instead. Earlier in the episode, Harry tells her: 'I have really tried with her [Helena], but we [Shakira and I] had like a week and it was, for me, the feelings were obviously way stronger and still are. "I'm sorry I never like tried again. I really thought the door was just, like, slammed.' Harry and Helena break down in tears as they cut final romantic ties in emotional scenes Shakira responds: 'Do you want some home truths… it's obviously the way you go about it and the steps you take in between to come to these conclusions obviously hurt people along the way. "It's all well and good you saying 'hold my hands up guys, sorry' but you still hurt people. And it's a pattern.' Harry then makes his intentions clear, saying: 'Look, I'm either leaving here alone or with you.' Both Harry and Helena broke down in tears multiple times in Sunday night's episode, as they cut their final romantic ties in emotional scenes. The duo have continued to deal with the fallout from The Grafties on the long-running ITV2 show. Helena told Harry: "You're so selfish, you've literally broken my heart Harry. Like I cannot be your friend in here. "And I will not be your friend on the outside, I can f****** promise you that. I don't want any association with you ever again." When he suggested that the duo may eventually become friends on the outside, she shut him down once again. "I don't think we will be friends Harry. You don't possess any morals or values that I look for when I'm becoming friends with people. "My friends don't treat me like that. I don't think you have an ounce of respect for me, you've literally ruined everything for me in here." She added: "I literally don't want anything to do with you Harry." That's when the footballers couldn't help but tear up after listening to her resounding words of rejection. Helena added: "I feel like I had something genuine in here and it's like obviously it wasn't. "I just feel so stupid because you clearly haven't felt the same as I felt about you this whole time." She couldn't help but wrap her arms around his neck in a gesture of pity as she caressed his face one more time. As they let go she exclaimed: "It's where the journey ends my darling!" 5 The pair were seen gazing at each other in a sneak preview Credit: ITV
